Getting ready to leave my 30s behind soon and my son said he was watching some old videos from the 80s and 90s. He was listing to the music and asking me about hanging in the mall and game arcades. I grew up in mostly the 90s but he said it looked like a golden era dream. I gave him the Titanic quote " It was son.. It really was"
I was still a child in the 80s, but I can still remember my first visit to an arcade hall. Normally, such places were very rare in Germany, but we had a lot of Americans stationed in our area and the owner was also American. I will never forget all the colors and loud sounds. It was an incredible experience that I fondly remember
Grew up as a kiddo in the 80's and I realize how lucky I was. Skating Rinks, arcades, thriving malls, Dystopian B-movies, cool toys and cartoons. Those dystopian movies didn't predict that it would start in our minds with woke mind rot.

There was one good block buster movie after another, a lot of music legends had their height in the 80's and 90's, communism was beaten, Germany re-united, full employment, the certainty that there will be a pension and working health care system in the future, way way way less violent felony in the streets. All that is gone today sadly.
I think it's dumb when people say the 80s were all old browns and oranges. I'm like, yeah, maybe at my Grandma's house, but not when I went out to the arcade the theater the skating rink the mall the bowling alley with friends. And everywhere you went had 80s music, and the sound of the synthesizer.
I've had a bit of a recent epiphany on Retrowave music. Its the drum and bass that are modern, with the 80's style synth sounds. It's not actually reminiscent of anything you'd hear on the radio itself for the most part, but more reminiscent of 80's movie scores. Not that ANY of that is a bad thing, it's just that's where this music hits the nostalgia the most. A vast majority of Retrowave makes me think of 80's film music more than a specific artist that was popular in the 80's. Still, I love every bit of it.
