    To all who posted negative or downright mean, inappropriate comments here.....
    You all are the dark underbelly of RUclips that bring the whole experience down.
    Armchair critics hiding behind your little keyboards.
    Grow up.
    This gentleman was kind enough to take the time to share this rare beauty with all of us.
    Maybe some of you are jelious, envious of the treasure he has there?
    Perhaps there is a reason he has to pump the throttle the way he does on that particular car.
    Could be the carb. needs work. Weak accelerator pump spring, gummed up with varnish, clogged fuel jets.
    Who knows Who cares.
    Another great video documenting a great car, and piece of rolling history.
    Maybe just sit back and enjoy?

      Couldn't have said that better. People don't have to share their videos and people don't have to click videos. If you don't like it don't watch it. Who cares if someone pumps the pedal too much or too little. Everyone was taught differently - I was taught pump it 3 times then start. Is it right or wrong? Who cares. Enjoy the video of the car or click on something else.

    This type of car was built to outlast the fossil fuels it presently uses to make power. There is a sense of permanence about them that was lost on the US built cars that followed in the late 1970s through the 1980s. I was a kid in jr high school in 1973, and cars like this were everywhere. At present I own a 1973 Ford Torino that is all original and beautiful - although not as pristine as this Mark IV, and for many years I have lusted after one like it. That is one looooong hood covering the 460 jewel of a motor.....

    I'm not sure that frantic pumping of the gas pedal is really necessary, one depression will prime the choke then engine cranking will pump the fuel up to the carburretor

    Beautiful car. When I see one of these I think of my '77 Merc Grand Marquis 2dr. God was that a beauty. It was virtually identical to the Mark series; same dash; same interior but with different design, it even had an emblem on the glove box "Ride engineered by Lincoln". Check out the RUclips video '77 Mercury Grand Marquis at Silver Spring MD auto show. That is identical to the one I owned. Sigh! I still miss that car, 40 years later!

    • @copperhammer
      @copperhammer 2 года назад +1

      You said it! I had a 73 Mark IV too, after a little accident I laid my eye on a 79 Grand Marquis 2 dr. This was the last one made with a 460 engine. A few years later an irresistible deal on a 79 Mark V. Cars then got not necessarily bigger but better and more luxurious. Now - design is out of style, and all of the so-called crossover SUVs are nothing but midget station wagons on steroids.

    The secret is after you pump it four or five times .... Hold it to the floor.... These are pretty much the same as the 73 caddies of the era with a 500 if they sit for a while you're going to have to pump them up four five times and then hold it to the floor...... And of course let off of it as soon as it starts..... Grew up on them in my family in my teens.... Just saying....... Beautiful car....

    2 pumps slow release. And opperate starter. If no start in 5-10 seconds repeat. If the car was left for 2 weeks ore more,it takes time to draw fuel from the tank forward

      @joemccarthy4532 6 лет назад

      The CARTIER EDITION only came out in 1976 and only came in DOVE GREY all Lincolns had CARTIER clocks starting in 1969 that doesn't make them a CARTIER EDITION

    • @joemccarthy4532
      @joemccarthy4532 6 лет назад

      all LINCOLNS came with CARTIER CLOCKS starting in 1969 .That doesn't make them CARTIER EDITIONS . the CARTIER EDITION started with the 1976 CONTINENTAL MARK IV and it came in 1 color DOVE GREY and the oval window has the lincoln star and it would say CARTIER next to the star . everyone thinks because their car has a CARTIER CLOCK it must be a CARTIER EDITION . WELL ITS NOT

    Really stupid to pump the gas pedal , trying to flood the carburetor

  • @joemccarthy4532
    @joemccarthy4532 6 лет назад +3

    You DO NOT KNOW how to remove a car cover . start a the front on one side fold the cover to the middle of the hood , roof and trunk then go to the other side and do the same so the folded side meet or over lap each other . Then start rolling it working from the trunk . like a jelly roll . See how much easier it is , kind of looks like a sleeping bag . Then when you want to put the cover back on set the roll on top of the car pulling the front of the cover to the front of the car unrolling it at the same time , then unroll the back . If you do this correctly the cover never touches the ground .

    YOU DO NOT have to pump the living SHIT out of the car to start it if the car has been sitting step on the gas and hold it for 6 seconds then try to start it if it doesn't start repeat . I own 4 LINCOLN MARK IV they start every time . My husband JOE is a engineer from FORD we own 15 cars and do not have to pump the SHIT out of them to get them started . SINCERELY MRS. M

  • @kimbarling4213
    @kimbarling4213 3 года назад

    Mate you don't have a clue on cold start to old v8 motors
    Pumping priming the carb like that only floods the floats!
    The auto choke will take care of that.
    Only need three pumps then wait for fuel to disperse down venturi then into manifold then crank for ignition.
    Bingo.
    Twenty pumps. Good way to fuck up your carby and over flood the inlets.
    Fouling the plugs.
    This guy has no clue .
    But that Lincoln is a stunning vehicle.
    I think it would be better with my collection of Fords.
