That was a great video. I especially love the thunderstorm rolling in. I was there July 23-27, around the time you were. I hurried over that pass! I don’t like sitting up there while lightning is moving closer.
@@227oldtrees I agree! Thunder and lightning up there is no joke! Being exposed like that can be scary. It’s better to get lower in elevation and find some cover! Thanks for the comment, I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
@@matemade72 Thank you! I really appreciate your support! I’m sure Korea is vey different. I would love to see Korea. I’m sure there are lots of amazing hikes there as well. Thanks again, I’m so glad you enjoyed my video.
Hey Sam, I appreciate that so much. Thank you for those comments, it means a lot to me. I’ll keep working on it and see where it goes. I think I may head back up to the Sierra next week. Thanks again.
One of my favorite spots in the Sierra. And by all means, get back up to the Bear Lakes Basin when you can -- after two previous attempts had to be scrubbed due to illness, I finally made it up there last August. No easy ways in or out, but that's probably as it should be. Those crystalline lakes reflecting Seven Gables will stay with me forever.
Also, I wanted to say thanks for leaving in the "here I am doing half the hike I had planned on doing, and it was still amazing" aspect of this. There are no wasted trips, and any trip that goes completely according to plan was probably overplanned and lost a good bit of revelation and just plain fun along the way. I'm always hoping to find more videos of "the day I spent trying to find a line over this gnarly cross-country pass only to have to retreat and find another starting point, making a mile of forward progress over four hours and being grateful for it" or "the view from the top was incredible, but the talus field on the other side was too sketchy for me" or just "uh oh, more rain." The mountains aren't malicious, but they're also not interested in cooperating with you -- I wish more backpacking RUclipsrs were interested in showing that part of the experience like you do here.
@@taylorbrady1424 Also, thank you for your thoughtful comment regarding my experience bailing on this hike. It’s super helpful to know what resonates. I figure that whatever the experience is, it’s worth telling the story as best can. And it’s the unexpected things that I think are the most interesting. I’m definitely going to get into Bear Lakes Basin one of these days… so many challenging and amazing spots in the eastern Sierra!
@WalterLockwood I went in from the Pine Creek Pass trailhead, then north off trail from Honeymoon Lake over Royce pass, dropped down to Pine Creek Pass and took the French Canyon Trail down to the Merriam Lake spur. Then into the basin over Feather Pass. Went out over Dancing Bear Pass, which is the easiest of the bunch, but then that long contour over to Italy Pass which is almost all either talus or snowfield - not very technical, but very slow going!
@ The first time I tried getting into Bear Lakes Basin I tried going oven Dancing Bear Pass from Italy Pass. I stayed as high as I could on that boulder strewn slope going from Italy to Dancing Bear. True boulder surfing! But it got late in the day, the wind picked up and the weather was moving in. So I bailed on that one as well! The next day the snow came in and I was counting my blessings for not having to come back over that pass in the snow. I think my on my next attempt might bring micro spikes and an ice axe and try Granite Bear Pass. Maybe.

Wow~ The natural scenery is so beautiful, so different from Korea! I found healing in your video. I'm cheering for you from Korea!

WALTER THIE IS AMAZING. Great job recording and setting up those beautiful shots.
This is so inspiring. No clue how your not famous with this yet.

Great video! Planing on doing a Humphrey’s Basin, Merriam Lake solo trip next year in July.
@@kellystevens6464 Merriam Lake is gorgeous! And good camping near the lake. If you fish the lake, let me know if you catch anything!
