    I have so much respect for the way she has played Alexis’ growth over the past seasons. The show COULD have been a one trick pony, but the depth she and her fellow artists have given their characters is so, so special. I think Annie in particular portrayed Alexis’ transition from being passive aggressive to actually using her ability to couch words in order to be kind and protect the feelings of those around her so, so beautifully.

      Princess Agatha Absolutely! I posted above that it would be so easy to hate Alexis, that she could be a stereotypical, obnoxious twit. But Murphy gives her a vulnerability that is so touching. Watching her grow up has been so cool, and you can’t help but root for her. Ted was the first thing in her life that she wanted and couldn’t immediately have (season 4).

      Hard agree. Her character has the most growth and the show was written perfectly. It could have just been a parody of socialites. But it has heart. Seriously perfect show.

      The crazy thing is Alexis was almost played by someone else. They had Abby Elliott, Chris Elliott's daughter, originally in mind and in the pilot that they showed to TV networks she actually played Alexis. However, when it got picked up by CBC, she couldn't commit due to scheduling conflicts, so they reopened their casting process and the rest is history.

    Watching SC obviously gives you a good idea of Annie Murphy's acting talents, but when you see her just being herself, you realize she's on another level to be able to bring out Alexis like she does.

    Annie Murphy is absolutely brilliant in Schitt's Creek and she has been able to telegraph her character's development in the most incredibly subtle ways, sometimes with just a glance or the tone of her voice. A friend of mine at work kept bugging me to watch this show and I am so glad I finally did! Now I am in love with this show and everyone in the cast and I will miss it when the final season ends. Much luck to her on the next chapter of her career...it will certainly be nothing less than fantastic!

    Her interviews are so much better one on one. With Dan and Eugene part of interviews she doesn’t have a voice. She seems nervous and has a hard time finding a place to speak. It’s just nice to hear her flesh out her character and have a voice without someone talking over her or finishing what she’s trying to say.

      YES ! It is so frustrating because every time I watch the four of them give an interview, Dan is always speaking and you almost never hear Annie. In a 50 minutes interview she'll be talking for maybe 5 minutes ...

    I remember being in a coffee house here in Toronto and Annie walked in with some other people and this was early on maybe after season 1 or 2 and I looked at her and did that "I know you from somewhere" thing. She smiled and all I could blurt out was "You're Alexis on Schitts Creek". (I've never been good at remembering names and when under pressure when face to face it is worse) To which she answered yes and smiled as I said how much I loved the show. I can't imagine anyone else would have brought so much to the character of Alexis as she has. She is fantastic. And I kind of love that Tom and Annie are buds. Two awesome people. Thanks for this.

      I completely agree. I sometimes like to listen to television shows while I'm on a walk or doing the dishes (just audio), but I can't really do that for SC because I miss all the hilarious little looks and facial expressions that Annie gives. Even when she doesn't have a line, she is fully immersed and engaged in the scenes.

    • @doublefeature
      @doublefeature 4 года назад +3

      @@kinrowdlily i personally could never do that with most of the shows i watch because i'm just an immersive person when it comes to media, tv/movies specifically. i could def do that w/ youtube but i gotta catch every look or glance or close up that might say something about the future plot. that being said, i totally agree w/ what you said about annie. even without lines, her facial expressions and little t-rex hands say it all!

      Liked them all from the beginning, except "Roland" (Chris Elliott). I had to get used to him.

    Canadians don't really care about homosexuality vs heterosexuality. We care about good people being able to be themselves and everyone else staying the hell out of our business. That's why Harry moved here and it's why many celebrities like it here.

    Did I miss something in the finale? Did we not see that scene she describes around 12:00 between her and Dan Levy, sobbing, “going through therapy”?

      Yeah I have no idea what she was talking about

      I'm sure it was carefully edited because, as she said, the scene didnt call for snotty crying! I would guess she means that they were crying and losing it outside of when they really needed to be serious for the scene.

      Watch the documentary that followed the finale! It shows her and Dan breaking down while they were filming and finished filming their last scene.

    Is calling people "bud" a Canadian anglo (kind of white) thing to say? Or do Americans say that too? I've been noticing more and more people say this in Canada but I'm in the French speaking part so it's diff here. Also, she says "2 of her boyfriends", like poly?

      Bud isn't as widespread a thing to call someone in the US as it seems to be in Canada, but I heard it occasionally in New York (North Country/Adirondacks) and Vermont. Since moving to Seattle, I've heard it rarely.

      @@jameskieley497 Yep, I grew up in Upstate NY and Vermont -- very common. Live in Portland OR now and never hear it.

      I think by "2 of her boyfriends" she means 2 of her friends that are guys, like how it's common for women to call their female friends their "girlfriends"

    • @QuinnIvyCeleste
      @QuinnIvyCeleste 3 года назад +2

      I think she meant it generally but she WAS referring to her husband of nine years and his bandmate/her ex-boyfriend (so it actually was two of her boyfriends in this case). I listened to a podcast with Annie and her husband and they explained the story and it says a lot about the people they are that they are all still so close!
