    The best thing about this VST is that it doesn't include any red glue under the keybed.

    • @rickmontgomery3037
      @rickmontgomery3037 2 года назад +2

      That is definitely no lie....I have two JD's, one that has the glue problem and is unusable, and the other I replaced the key bed on myself with a new one about 5 years ago (luckily before Roland stopped carrying them) because of that issue (I had actually bought it a year or two before that and finally did the replacement once the problem got bad enough). I was unaware at the time just how widespread of a problem the glue issue was in general, or else I'd have bought two new key beds instead of just one. And it was quite expensive too, as I recall, I think about $300, maybe more. However, I was just thinking this evening that I could actually get a cheap MIDI controller at some point and use it with the unusable JD I mentioned, so who knows I may go that route at some point with that one. But even so, with the one I replaced the key bed on, it would probably just be a matter of time before that bed wears out or develops a problem not related to the glue, which would necessitate repairs, etc., if parts or keys would even be available. That may just be an eventual hassle, and more expense than what I've already incurred, so because of that I'm considering getting that one professionally cleaned up and looked over at a Roland service outlet I've used in the past and will probably try to sell it on Ebay or Reverb at that point.

    • @soepil
      @soepil 2 года назад

      And ... it's not as heavy, either. :) My old JD only works via MIDI, the keyboard is shot :(

    • @rickmontgomery3037
      @rickmontgomery3037 2 года назад

      @@soepil Yep, and that's exactly my concern with the one I replaced the key bed on...once that one goes I'll have to resort to using it via MIDI, as I mentioned doing with my 2nd JD, because parts may not even be available anywhere for it...especially given that the key beds were discontinued years ago. I must admit that I'm intrigued with the new VST, of which I have no experience with those, as I'd prefer the original synths themselves, but I was curious if there's some way to use a PCM card with it or perhaps in the future if they'd offer that capability. And I mention that not just for those of us who have PCM cards with our own sound creations on it from the JD, but really more so with the JV-1010 card sets they came out with for the JD-800. For instance, I have the Brass card set and really enjoy a particular brass section patch on it...but if those JV cards can't be utilized with that VST software then those types of card sets would be pretty useless, which would be a shame. I'm sure the coveted Strings card set has some very nice sounds on it, since that's been a popular and tough to find card set to obtain for years. At any rate, for grins I recently looked online to see if an adapter exists to convert PCM to USB or the like (because I can't think of any other way they'd utilize those card sets or PCM cards with the VST), but I couldn't find any. What they could do at some point, if they haven't started on this already, is sample/convert the waveforms (and patches from the accompanying patch ROM cards that came in each set) from those original JV card sets the way they did with the original factory JD-800 patches for the VST itself, and incorporate them that way into the VST so we could have access to those.

    • @soepil
      @soepil 2 года назад

      @@rickmontgomery3037 Agree, that would be nice. I've been doing a bit of "online" keyboard work, and it's almost always the JD-800 for pads. It just sounds great.

      @ChasingDogma Lol .. I had the red glue leaking on both my JD800 and D70, I didn’t realize it until around 2004 after reading an article where Rick Wakeman was talking about the red glue, after reading that article I raced into my studio and looked under both keyboards and yep .. red glue dripping down the keys. Roland replaced both keybeds under warranty even though the synths were both well over a decade old, only problem is Roland repair scratched the chassis panels on both synths .. they were in immaculate like new condition before Roland got hold of em 😡 On the plus side both new keybeds were and still are the best synth actions I’ve ever owned, I still have both here in 2022.

      I know what you mean, I replied to someone's post above and mentioned I have two JD's, one has the glue problem and is unusable, the other did have it but luckily I purchased a new key bed from Roland several years ago while they still carried them and swapped out the key bed myself. Luckily no problems since, fingers crossed. The thing is, I didn't realize at the time that this was such a widespread problem with so many of these JD's, or I'd have gotten two key beds instead of one. At the time I figured it was just an issue with mine, I had no idea that wasn't the case. At any rate, I'm seriously considering getting the one I replaced the key bed on serviced and cleaned up so I can sell it before that bed develops any problems. I'm sure those parts will be tougher to obtain as time goes on (although places like Keyboard Kountry carry replacement keys, but I guess I'm talking more about the circuit board, etc.) and I don't want to deal with anymore potential hassles, repairs, costs, you name it.

    Looks and sounds good. Now, I'll say the same thing I said about the JD-08: where's the backward compatibility? Five-part multitimbrality? Where are the SL-JD80 expansion card waveforms and patches? Where's the proper one-sound-per-key "Special Setup" for drums? And above all else, where's the JD-series SysEx compatibility? Seems odd to have crippled the software in this way.

    The JD-800 was a very desirable instrument, and still is. When Roland released the JP-8000, it was quite a bit of anticlimax compared to the JD-800. Oh well, everybody had to compete with the Nord Lead at that time, so we got what we got. Thankfully, Roland is back to producing desirable instruments again, like the Jupiter-X and Juno-X. By the way, I don't really understand why so many synthesizer enthusiasts frown upon the sample playback technology. All the D-70, JD-800, JV- and XV-series are sample playback, and they are all fantastic.

    Like many others, I've been waiting for a JD800/JD990 emulation for years now. Thanks for investing the time in this.
    A really big part of the sound of these earlier digital units came from the D/A converters. Still holds true today, AD/DA converters sound different... But never more so than those heady days of the late eighties and into the early nineties, with Burr Brown DACs and their contemporaries adding a wonderful spice to the signal, and sometimes needing calibration to account for gain and offset errors and such stuff.
    It's cool to have the raw waveforms and emulation of the synth signal path, but does this plugin also emulate the DAC output stage? Internal 32kHz (?) sample rates? Anti-aliasing filters?
    Also - the JD800 was monaural per patch, no panning on the sort of beautiful pads that you get from the JD990. Does this plugin support panning per tone?

      @Sergei Orlov -
      If you want the real sound, then you've gotta buy the real thing. It's an emulation of the sounds created by the JD-800, it's not the complete engine. I now own the Korg Wave Station and M1 soft synths, and they sound "good enough" compared to their original counterparts, but never the less, the hardware sounds the way it does for a reason.
      Mind you, the hardware can't be played within a DAW. So be happy with what Roland is offering.

    It sounds great! A minor thing: the patch switch buttons are programmed different than the hardware version. Push the patch up button and the VST goes to the next patch. Push the patch down button and it goes to the previous patch. On the hardware version that's the other way around and thus confusing.

      When I had my JD, it was no use as a CC type controller, the sliders only sent Sysex and it would lock up frequently, there was a later revision (B?) that fixed that issue though. If those sliders had sent CCs it would be one of the best controllers in existence I reckon. I used one as my main/synth controller for over a decade and would have loved to have been able to use those sliders to map to VSTs.

I hope i`m dead wrong but from what i hear on sound demos it resemble a lot to real deal, but i cant hear that huge low end and high end which real hardware is famous for. Its nice to give JD flavor but it cant replace real deal.
