Swedish Military and Russia quite spectacular history fun fact. More fact than it is over 200 years of Swedish neutrality and no wars.
1. Sweden was a warrior nation as a "business model" from the time of the Vikings until 1809. When Sweden finally , after 700years, lost its eastern part to Russia . Today a country by its own named Finland.
2. Sweden/Finland and Russia has through history been warring each other .Or been in war like conficts, 32 times !! (Finland has after that added 2 more wars against Russia). Russia has always outnumbered Sweden/Finland by far ~3-5 times the Swedish/finnish forces. Surpricingly to most people Russia did not win that often through history . As you could expect. Just FYI a wast majority of the 32 wars where NOT on todays Swedish soil.
3. After lost Finland 1809. Sweden recruited Napoleon best Marshal famous for brilliant strategy and administration. Jean Baptiste Bernadotte (1763-1844) to be Swedens new King ! under the name Karl XIV Johan. The idea was with the new king pay back time on russia. BUT Bernadotte realized The days for sweden as a warrior busines model nation was over. The Napoleon wars developed new weapon technology had become an equalizer to Swedish/Finnish underdog kick ass soldier and tactics advantage.
So in extreamly Short The new French Swedish King realized that the new Swedish country Business model where no longer war. But Peace and trade. Hence since then over 200 years of Neutrality and no wars.

Fun fact for the History geek. Regarding the connection between Sweden/Finland, Russia and Ukraine
Even the name Russia comes from Sweden. Vikings where else where east named rowers "RUS". Rowers from the Stockholm area. They traded along russian, belarus, ukrainian rivers, black sea etc. (hence the names RUS-sia, Bela-RUS, Kiev-RUS ...you get the point) If the people there did not like to trade. Needless to say, Russian fighters outturns all American fighters 10 times out of 10. And judging by how exercises have gone then I'd say the Gripen wins against F16s both in BVR and in dogfights.

Good summary but just an FYI there was not a single picture of the Swedish main battle tank in this video. Our tank is based on the Leopard 2 but after modifications and upgrades it's called STRV 122 (short for Stridsvagn 122)

NATO tanks are outdated as they dont have GPS jammers onboard. Separate radars are not enough to warn vehicle crews early enough to get within range of other antidrone systems.

Good video but Swedens neutrality is 200 years old. We have fought many wars for many houndreds of years but after the Napoleon wars Sweden became neutral as a part of 1814 peace agreement.
You weren't neutral when you allowed Germany to cross Sweden to conquer Norway in WW2 or when you made lots of money selling materials and weapons to other warring nations.
Sweden have sold weapons to many sides that doesn't mean they were not neutral? They let the germans use their rails but its not like they had much of a choice when they sent all their supplies to the finns fighting the russians. It was either fight the germans and lose in days or let them take the rails and keep out of the conflict. They supported the allied forces with intel from tapped lines and troop movements when the germans used the rails lets not forget that they also took in a bunch of wounded, escapists and jews during and after the war. There is one drawback with the Swedish subs. The cabability to stay out on long missions. Of course Sweden don't need that capability but it plays a part when desiding witch sub is the best.

They never acted because you counted on to high losses witch they couldn't afford att that time. The fact that it took so long to build up the Swedish forces during WW2 was that we didn't have any defence industry to mention at that time and it was almost imposible to buy anything from abroad. It took until 1947 to get everything ready.

I think the real reason they never attacked was that it just wasn't necesary and later in the war when Sweden turned more towards the allies it would have been to costly. Did you know that sweden actualy captured Moscow ones. It was in march 1610. According to writen sources the people in Moscow cheered when the Swedish troops marched in and took over the city.

My father made it through World War II in England, Holland and across Europe to Belgium at the end or the war. He was a Gunner in the Canadian Army, armed with a Swedish Bofor 40 mm. AA (Anti-Aircraft gun). The Bofor guns were built in Canada by Chrysler Corporation under license from SABB/Bofor of Sweden. A reliable and dependable anti-aircraft canon, that allowed him to come home safe and alive.

Unfortunately, Canada has made the final decision to purchase 88 of the F-35 fighter jets from the U.S.A., rather than the SAAB Gripen, which was the next closest front runner in the competition. I still feel the Gripen would have been the better choice for Canada's domestic and NATO requirements and we could have purchased 140 Gripens for the same price.

Well, except for 1939-1944 when Sweden was very helpful to the Nazis. A little troop transport here and there, some steel, some ballbearings. Then pretend to have been neutral. Neutral when it is convenient. Besides, not fighting with the allied nations in WWII is hardly something to be proud of. It is a huge stain on Swedens history and quite contrary to the self righteous posturing we see from many swedish politicians.

@@Perisa79 Allowing massive foreign power troop transports in country is hardly being neutral, but keep telling yourself otherwise to feel better. Sweden sided withv Wehrmacht in practise. Zero allied troop transports were allowed. Sweden could have shortened the war by a year if they had joined the sllied nations.

Sweden, in the beginning of the war, didn't push back at the German and with good reason. Norway and Denmark was invaded an taken in matter of months. As the war progressed Sweden moved towards working with the allies in many ways. Swedish inteligence worked closely with Brittish. We helped Norwegian and Danish refuges. Norwegian police tropps was trained and equipted in Sweden to be able to move in when Germany was weaekend. You have to study more then just one part of the history to get the whole picture
