    For anyone not using a Sony camera, the alternative is ‘Mercalli pRoDAD’ and if you’re using a BMPCC then you have a gyro stabilisation built into Davinci Resolve free and studio

    After adding a crop factor (or minimum cropping ratio slider) on to the footage inside catalyst browse, in the bottom right of the screen u have a button "analyze". You can see the difference in your footage after clicking it. If the button doesn't work, maybe try asking for some tech support. Hope this helps

    3:48 I don't know when it got updated, but with analyze it stabilizing the preview for me.
    Other option is Gyroflow, it is free and it allows you to
    -stabilize a smaller part of the footage,
    -it can correct rolling shutter
    -lock horizon,
    -adjust cropping ratio
    -you can export in prores,
    -and it is fast,
    but you have to record with IBIS turned off, more complicated because you have more control.

  • @dougmorato
    @dougmorato Год назад +9

    You need to analyze first then you can adjust it as you like and export it. We can also add a bit of motion blur later on if that’s the case. To me I can see the amount of stabilization necessary and added before exporting it. Catalyst browse is game changer. But, it does not replace a gimbal. Actually as you said, it’s a complement to the gimbal.

I love handheld when I film closeup shots but for me the gimbal is very essential for action shots because we can waist time putting the gyro, editing, cropping, exporting etc etc etc. So, another good tool is a cinema saddle bag but they are expensive and not all knows how to balance the camera with your body at the same time, so gimbal came for help us to make easy our job. I'm curious why you don't just hold the gimbal upside-down when trying to show low angles. My very limited experience with a gimbal on my Canon seemed to show it would film that way. Sure, you may not be able to use the handle's controls in an awkward position like that, but since you've already set up your shot and you're doing post-prod anyway, it seems a lot easy to just flip it over after you've set it to record. And with all the cage systems out there, you'd think there would be a gyro system available. I've never looked, though, since I'm not a pro. If they do have one, a cage with a top handle seems a better option for low angle shots.
