I saw several times and she was just perfect. If you look carefully she hardly did fouttes or jumps. Her abilities lay in muscality, and ease of movement , perfect positions, and very lyrical.

It's a wonderful inspiration to have this posted here! Now anyone can see Suzanne Farrell get some of the appreciation she deserves! Thank you, Markie Polo!

    Thanks for this
I remember her at NYCB back in the day. She was modern and precise in her movements and expressive and wonderful. And beautiful!

They never called on her knowledge and genius at NYCB.SHAME ON THEM ALL. they need her NOW AT THIS TIME. What the heck does justin peck know about Balanchines legacy? It's not enough Peter Martin's disrespected her ..

They invited her back to coach not long ago. New regime at the top. Hope she's invited back more often, as well as the rest of the originals.

yes they did, MR B would ask her about the choreo, did it feel possible, if not show him something else. Suzanne said that his choreo was usaually so perfect for the music. However he never forced anyone to do something they did not believe in. All of the dancers have shared this. They all knew they were working with genius and he always gave them the credit.

That look on her face at 1:13...why does Jacques keep calling her "Susan"?

Even in honoree position, she is still a reparature. She watches Divert with an eye given by Balanchine Himself and approves of it only because the President stands. I'm not sure what Divert was supposed to look like but I don't believe she is satisfied with the interp. Would be interesting to see what she thought of the performance in a post-performance interview. She's lovely and a Balanchine Baby, so I rely on her to let me know what He wanted!

...maybe a book about the culture/ pop music swirling around the nycb during her years there ....the dichotomy of it-?

If you mean the music they're dancing to in the performance, it's the last movement of W. A. Mozart's Divertimento no.15, not Elgar.

Any chance you could post Balanchine's Kennedy Center Honor from 1978? I've been looking for it everywhere.
