Always thought he was annoying and sleezy but I would watch the videos cuz I was interested in the products. Had to stop watching them.

I rarely unsub someone but I unsubbed Unbox therapy some years ago ... His first video in his home were nice but he started to scream all the time, do massive clickbaiting, do fake giveaway etc

You can’t really use his videos for anything other than seeing what a product looks like, but there are other channels which do that better.
People haven't forgotten the truck full of iPhone incident and I wouldn't be surprised to discover that it is the reason people look into anything Lew does now far more closely.
It's a shame because I liked his videos but haven't watched anything on his channels in over a year since he has done several dishonest things that demonstrates he lacks integrity.

I’ve had the Pitaka case for almost a year. It is the best case I have ever used. I saw the unbox therapy announcement and it confused me a lot. Mostly because after I bought the case, I found the original video. It was just a really sketchy way he announced it and said, “there is nothing out on the market like this case I made.” That statement was the big problem for me.
Unsubbed to Unbox so long ago. When I watch a video on something tech based, I want specs first and foremost. I can't count how many time he reviewed something and says "This laptop has a good screen." And no info. What resolution? What colour coverage? Touchscreen? All he does is hype stuff up, no fucking thank you.
Thats kind of his whole point imo. Hes not that hyper detailed tech youtuber, hes that more "general use" kind of tech reviewer. Your average mom isnt gonna wanna know this 4k monitor is 144hz and has 300 million rgb colors or whatever, she just wanna know what the overall product is like. dont watch unbox much, but he targets a different demographic than those like linus or gamersnexus target

He's the equivalent of a hype man working for the verge. Sure, there's people out there that appeal more to the less technically inclined people out there, but they do 1000 times better with a tenth the budget. They are a studio paid so much to put in the time and effort, and the end result is what I would expect from a channel with less than 10,000 subs. He's the king Joffrey of tech.

As a fellow Canadian, I really like your content, i've learnt a lot with you and your team. This guy is a liar, started with the pick up truck full of iphones, the copy cat case, then then pablo phone. This guy should be ashamed.
My take-Lew and his team thought that they were popular enough to make a case, put out a short video and thousands would buy no questions asked. He was wrong-very wrong and got called out on it and had to damage control. In the end, it’s a little blip and it probably did hurt his credibility with many but doubt it will hurt him in the long term. Any time you are a reviewer, and you decide to make products you open yourself up for major scrutiny, and in this case it was all done wrong and there was a lot of scrutiny .

It's interesting that this and Lew's clip explaining how he had die-cuts made, sourced materials from 3M and had them made. He even listed the pricing for each of the die-cuts for each of the models he supports.
this is like chevrolet advertising for ford when they make a similar product but they both believe that theirs is the best. to sell he needs to distance himself as far away from his competitor as he can.

@@ge2719 The whole point was that the company didn't make the case he wanted for his phone, so he decided to have it made. If Pitaka had made it, the LaterCase wouldnt exist.
Just a side note, pitaka makes amazing cases. I used one on my iPhone 7 plus for ~3 years and that thing went through hell, but the case held up, and my phone never broke. I now have one on my new iPhone 11 max pro or whatever the hell its called, only dropped it once, but it absolutely holds up for how slim it is.
Lol they fucked up the naming so bad the owners don't even know what their own phone is called. I remember when the iPhone X came out everyone got it and called it the "ex" instead of the "ten". Hell even people really into tech thought it would be called "ex" from the leaked name before it came out. If I remember correctly they actually changed it to "ex" when the next gen came out, though maybe I just never watched the release and went with what everyone else called it.
Sure, the issue is he then compromises his primary business with the side one. Now his honesty in reviewing other phone cases is called into question, because he's a "competitor". As Linus pointed out, he should have been very candid about this to avoid damaging his reputation which is half of his current business. It might not play into things much, but Lew should have been thinking about this rather than getting caught up in the excitement of $30 profit per case sold.
That's the mistake. He absolutely can, and should, promote his competition on his review channel. There's nothing wrong with saying "this case is awesome!" And then saying "hey I designed my own case that solves all the problems with other cases I talked about before, check it out!"

The LTT Hood zip needs an inner lining. I can feel all the stitching inside when I wear it...gets uncomfortable over time when sitting while wearing it with it pressed against your skin(inside the sleeves mainly).

I literally watched lews pitaka case review yesterday, it's still up..... never heard about any of this and didn't now he had a case but I've know about pitaka since its kickstarter years ago....
In some of our cases ;-) , there is no Pitaka alternative. I have a Samsung Note 20 Ultra and a Samsung zFold3. I can't find either Pitaka case on Amazon.
Whilst I agree this doesn't compare to say, a country burning or a viral outbreak to measure against current times. It still doesn't give him a free pass. People make it a big issue because Lew - through hard work or otherwise - is in a very influential position & as such he needs too respect that. It's a difficult issue for you guys to cover since you have collaborated with Lew in the past, so props for even entertaining the notion to discuss it. Having said that, I do feel that the question posed by a viewer 'he didn't make it was misconstrued & taken literally - granted the viewer could have worded it better but clearly he was pointing towards the potential copyright infringement.
I'm still so pissed that Vertagear dragged their feet on the LED chairs . Since they announced, i've been ready, cash in hand to purchase one. They kept delaying and giving me the run around, but they still showed up at events, live streams, tournaments, etc. Sorry, I know it's unrelated, but seeing those chairs pissed me off, lol.
i think the information around this situation is clouding the mind. the launch video of the product, the words chosen in that video. the fact that he deleted the video. and his non defense of the accusation. He chose his words wisely to try and sell it as a original product without specifically stating that it is a original product. and it didn't work. his mcdowell's(coming to America) sales pitch didn't work if only he sold it like mcdowell's, at least he was honest about the differences. lew didn't even try to compare in anyway.
And what's wrong with that? Unless there's patent on the design, he can use it. Pitaka should sue Lew if they feel like a patent has been infringed. Otherwise STFU.
To take it further, Hermes, for example, puts their brand on bags that you can buy for 10% of the price that the same Hermes bag costs. Same look; same material, same everything. Brand has value.

I think you guys confused Lew’s comments about Pitaka and Evutec. In his video he said he spoke to Evutec for manufacturing before launching the case but that fell through. He spoke to Pitaka after the launch about the CEO’s statements.

It's interesting that this and Lew's clip explaining how he had die-cuts made, sourced materials from 3M and had them made. He even listed the pricing for each of the die-cuts for each of the models he supports.

this is like chevrolet advertising for ford when they make a similar product but they both believe that theirs is the best. to sell he needs to distance himself as far away from his competitor as he can.
exactly, he shouldnt be selling products in the same market as the products he reviews. and he shouldnt be selling his product on his youtube review channel. it just becomes impossible to trust him as a reviewer.
@@ge2719 The whole point was that the company didn't make the case he wanted for his phone, so he decided to have it made. If Pitaka had made it, the LaterCase wouldnt exist.

Just a side note, pitaka makes amazing cases. I used one on my iPhone 7 plus for ~3 years and that thing went through hell, but the case held up, and my phone never broke. I now have one on my new iPhone 11 max pro or whatever the hell its called, only dropped it once, but it absolutely holds up for how slim it is.
Lol they fucked up the naming so bad the owners don't even know what their own phone is called. I remember when the iPhone X came out everyone got it and called it the "ex" instead of the "ten". Hell even people really into tech thought it would be called "ex" from the leaked name before it came out. If I remember correctly they actually changed it to "ex" when the next gen came out, though maybe I just never watched the release and went with what everyone else called it.

Sure, the issue is he then compromises his primary business with the side one. Now his honesty in reviewing other phone cases is called into question, because he's a "competitor". As Linus pointed out, he should have been very candid about this to avoid damaging his reputation which is half of his current business. It might not play into things much, but Lew should have been thinking about this rather than getting caught up in the excitement of $30 profit per case sold.

That's the mistake. He absolutely can, and should, promote his competition on his review channel. There's nothing wrong with saying "this case is awesome!" And then saying "hey I designed my own case that solves all the problems with other cases I talked about before, check it out!"

Since they sponsored that video, i would assume that they are allowed to use that clip. I could be wrong though.
@@21BDP21 True, but plenty of companies sponsor videos that they send tech over for. But that in of itself doesn't mean that they have rights to use LTT footage without a license. I think that was the point of that part of the discussion if I hadn't misinterpreted it.

The ceo of the company even said he doesn’t have a patent for the pitaka case. He said it was a moral issue he has against Lew not a legal one.
His whole channel is likely a shill. If he's willing to directly rip off his fans, why wouldn't he butter up reviews?
I actually got a pitaka wallet and it's pretty great, I didnt know they made phone cases.

I literally watched lews pitaka case review yesterday, it's still up..... never heard about any of this and didn't now he had a case but I've know about pitaka since its kickstarter years ago....
In some of our cases ;-) , there is no Pitaka alternative. I have a Samsung Note 20 Ultra and a Samsung zFold3. I can't find either Pitaka case on Amazon.
I dont know why this interests me more than Brexit, but it does.
Whilst I agree this doesn't compare to say, a country burning or a viral outbreak to measure against current times. It still doesn't give him a free pass.
People make it a big issue because Lew - through hard work or otherwise - is in a very influential position & as such he needs too respect that.
It's a difficult issue for you guys to cover since you have collaborated with Lew in the past, so props for even entertaining the notion to discuss it.
Having said that, I do feel that the question posed by a viewer 'he didn't make it was misconstrued & taken literally - granted the viewer could have worded it better but clearly he was pointing towards the potential copyright infringement.

I'm still so pissed that Vertagear dragged their feet on the LED chairs . Since they announced, i've been ready, cash in hand to purchase one. They kept delaying and giving me the run around, but they still showed up at events, live streams, tournaments, etc. Sorry, I know it's unrelated, but seeing those chairs pissed me off, lol.

i think the information around this situation is clouding the mind. the launch video of the product, the words chosen in that video. the fact that he deleted the video. and his non defense of the accusation. He chose his words wisely to try and sell it as a original product without specifically stating that it is a original product. and it didn't work. his mcdowell's(coming to America) sales pitch didn't work
if only he sold it like mcdowell's, at least he was honest about the differences. lew didn't even try to compare in anyway.
And what's wrong with that? Unless there's patent on the design, he can use it. Pitaka should sue Lew if they feel like a patent has been infringed. Otherwise STFU.
To take it further, Hermes, for example, puts their brand on bags that you can buy for 10% of the price that the same Hermes bag costs. Same look; same material, same everything. Brand has value.

I think you guys confused Lew’s comments about Pitaka and Evutec. In his video he said he spoke to Evutec for manufacturing before launching the case but that fell through. He spoke to Pitaka after the launch about the CEO’s statements.
