Great demo! I’m always salivating over your website but this is the first time I think I’ve really watched your channel. This lad does a really Pro review/demo with some pretty tidy playing!
Sold! I have an iso-cab - it's a pain in the arsenal. Sometimes the box will develop a loose screw, or the mic mount becomes unlocked and then you've got a guitar track with a noise in it. This is soooo much easier.
I didn't understand where the sound comes from. When you played with the Tele and the Fender amp, did you use the speaker of that amp or not? And were you playing through a computer o just guitar, loadbox and amp? Sorry, but I'm a beginner with this stuff and I'm trying to understand something before buying good gear for home playing and home recording.
could you give more details around the connection to the apollo? did you use an instrument cable to the hi-z of the (front of the) apollo, or a 1/4 trs cable from the RLIR to xlr input to the (back of the) apollo?
Hey guys, I’m curious if this fancy little IR box will also record everything in my loop fx.. sorry for such a basic question. These boxes are amazing and new for me thanks !
So, you just unplugged the speaker cable from the amp and plugged in to the reactive load? I have the hot rod and I was wondering if I can use it with the reactive load. Great video, thanks!
We unplugged the lead attaching the speaker (or cab) to the amplifier, then plugged the amplifier into the Reactive Load IR using a speaker lead from the speaker output of the amplifier.
Hey guys, great video ! I have a question for you: Are you using speaker cables from the amp to the box? and... speaker cables are non-balanced... right??? Thanks
I was hoping for a built in attenuator too but it is a pretty awesome product. Can you record the dry and ir outputs simultaneously? Will it also still protect your amp if it lost power? Awesome demo/overview too. Cheers from Australia. \m/
Hello Kevin, I meant if the the Suhr Reactive Load IR lost power, would it work passively to protect your tube/valve power amplifier like the original non-IR model can? @@kevinsuhr6342
Can someone help me? I’m a bit fuzzy on all the details. I can crank my amp during the day just fine but want to at night also. I know you can get tones with this, so can you crank your amp through headphones? I love my cranked Marshall, you know :) thanks!!
Hey, I've been trying this unit. I tried it with a marshall origin 20w head, and you can definetely crank an amp with the headphones. It just needs a bit of tweaking to find the right spots with the headphones volume knob , the DI volume knob, your amp's master knob and your pedal's volume knob. However you cannot just turn everything on 10 otherwise it would just be inaudible (clipping, fuzzing and all crap of over loaded signal) and it might not be safe for your gear. It is also important to mention that you can crank your amp ONLY with your headphones, because if you run it like amp>suhr>speaker, it will NOT attenuate anymore. I hope it helped .
I'm running an Eventide a Timefactor it has different level setting for +4 or - I had no problems using this and the boss and TC delays with the Suhr RL in the amps loop or after the unit into stereo out to monitors or powered cabs this is with Marshall 100 watt heads loaded down .
When you connect the reactive load to the hot rod deluxe, is the sound still coming out from the hot rod deluxe? Or do you listen from the studio monitors? Thanks
@@kevinsuhr6342 can you give some advice on how we can create blends of IR's and then load them up in the new Suhr RL V2? Thank you for this product btw!
@@chrisschneider5480 I believe the Mix IR2 and Wall of sound plugins are capable of exporting your blends as wav files. I know MIXIR2 can. Then you just need to make sure it's the right format. I use Audacity, which is easy and free on all operating systems). I drag the IR in there, split the stereo to mono and delete one of the mono tracks. Then I export as a Wav, 24bit, and load that in. Make sure when you export a blend from one of your plugins that it is in 48kHz sample rate. Then transfer the blend to your unit!
I agree with you on two IR's sound much better. I wish there was a tool/software to "easily" mix two IRs into a single one for use with the Suhr RL IR. I've tried using the MixIR2 method and it sounded horrible. I'm sure I must have done something wrong. Two Notes wall of sound won't export to standard Wav files so that sucks. Still I'd rather have the option to actually load a 2nd IR vs having to import/blend/export IRs.
sorry, it made beautiful amps sound like crap to me. very fizzy. real speakers chosen for guitar amps are usually not hifi, so the high frequencies/fizz are tamed. plug your amp into a pa speaker and see what I mean. guitar amp speakers need a cut in bass and top end, and a nicely tailored mid frequency. I had to turn down the volume on the two rock amp.
Except that the IR's are typically modeled from real speakers. If you were able to EQ it yourself and A/B the recorded speaker with the IR, there wouldn't be that much difference in tone, only a little feel difference. I prefer recording with real speakers, but a good IR can come very close.
This solution is meant to give you what a microphone would give you. If you stick a microphone right up into a speaker and it will be fizzier than what you hear sitting in a room with your ears. That is because your ear is off-axis to the speaker in a room so you don't hear all the fizz. The application for the reactive load is to replace a microphone. If you can mic up a cabinet the way you like for recording, you can make an IR of it, put it into the reactive load and it will sound the same. This unit can also load third-party IRs, so you should be able to get any dark micing situation you'd like too.
@@kevinsuhr6342 that makes total sense. i'm always aware when I set up my ear off axis to my speakers to get the tone an off axis mic would give you in foh mix etc. i'm new to this ir stuff and have found the tech to be amazing to tune a tone pleasing to my ear. just bought a headrush to play with the tech. the ir's are the secret to get a very passable valve tone from a digital platform. sorry, learnt a lot since my first comment.
sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know a tool to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!

6:38 Not sure why you would use a balanced TRS cable when the port you're plugging into is for unbalanced....
Thanks for this video. Is the recording in mono or stereo?
great explanation, sounds killer, thanks guys !

You can use the unit ir just for monitoring and get the raw signal to use a ir later?
sounds great guys! Great demo - wish I knew it was coming before buying Torpedo Captor, lol :)
Thanks for the demo. The headphones have good quality signal?
Will this work with a Combo amp????

Can you use both the ir and dry outputs at same time, also will a 120w amp be ok with it as long as I keep it under 6? Thanks
Anyone know what “transparent” attenuator I can use with this device? I prefer this over torpedo captor X.
Great video dude. Very detailed. Definitely picking one of these up
whats that at 16:20???
great now i need this as a rack unit

Yes, you can record both outputs simultaneously! If your amp lost power, it would be the same as if your amp lost power connect to a speaker cabinet

No xlr out?
Did you do any post-processing?
Sounds great to me. Will it sound good running effects in the loop as well as before the amp like you normally would?
Yes it works great with effects in the loop or you can run effects after the I,r out to interface or stereo monitors or a slaved amp
It would give you the same results as if you did that with a microphone and speaker!
The output of the reactive load is stereo ?

What kind of headphones do you use? Any success getting good headphones sounds? You play mostly clean or dirty?
Could you use monitor speakers in the DI out so it would be a sort of attenuator for home use
Karl Longbottom you can run the headphone out in to computer speakers for home use and play along with whatever you put in to the aux in.
Yes I run mine amp to Suhr to stereo delay to left and right monitors there is allot of ways to connect this unit
You could plug the IR output directly into a studio monitor

You can do either, Em, which makes the Reactive Load IR perfect for both stage and studio!
Peach Guitars Thanks for answering. Well thats perfect for me!
Great demo to the point no BS
So, there’s no attenuator in there for use with a real speaker - it’s just IR?
Correct, not an attenuator.
I was wondering the same thing.
You could take the Direct output and run it into a slave amp's FX return. The slave amp's master volume would attenuate then.
Boom
By the way, thanks to you guys for making me spend all my money on your killer guitars......my wife hates you hahahaha
How i connect stereo effects ? To the audio interface ?
Analog effects go to your amp's send/return chain.
I have AC10C1 ; would this work fine with the speaker out from the amp?
The AC 10 is 16ohms out, so it would be mismatched with the 8ohm Suhr. It would probably be fine however.
Nice video with a good explanation. If you want to use it for headphones, will it still work if you have nothing plugged into the outputs?
Yes - it's still a reactive load; the new model adds IR functionality.
Yes, the headphone output will still work even if nothing is plugged into the outputs

Only 100watts though? Most big iron amps are at least 100w.
