Hey Ron first of all thank you for reaching out and taking the time to write such a detailed message, it's really appreciated. I do have a couple tips for you. First of all, i would suggest investing in a wind shield for your microphone. Simply because, if you're going to film a whole game on a windy day, the sound of friction on your microphone can get quite irritating after a while. Also, if you have the opportunity to film SAFELY from a higher vantage point, I suggest you do so. It will help the viewers see the ball carrier even when there's other players between him and your camera. It will also allow the viewers to see the lines on the field and therefor have a better understanding of where the action is at all times. If you have a pickup truck, you could park it in reverse next to the rugby field and film from the bed of the truck. If there's a safe access to the roof of the rugby club, you could potentially film from there. But obviously, safety should be your main concern. Don't go taking crazy risks! Good luck with it all and keep me in the loop.

Hi! Do you know how make highlight videos where you can draw and talk about football players? Like draw arrows and pause a video while talking? Maybe there’s an app I can use? Thanks
If you have it with you on the court to film up close action then yes, that would be great. If you plan on filming from the sidelines or the stands, all you'll have to work with is a very wide shot of the court so it will be hard to edit anything exciting.

But I film for the teams to watch afterwards to watch on how they did.( you know like a film session with the team. BeyondTheGameTV what I mean is, I film the games for the team to watch afterward so when the game is going on I have to get every player on the court/player at that time. If that makes sense.
I see. Well you can either use a second camera so you can cut between two different angles, or you can zoom into your footage in post to give the illusion that you have close up footage. Depending on the quality of your camera and how wide your shot is, the second option might not look great.
E, Iove the videos you're putting out about filming sports! So insightful for a beginner like myself. I will be filming youth wrestling and want to learn as much as I can before next season, so I can make a quality season highlight film to sell to parents/ athletes as small a fund raiser for the team, as well as recruiting tool for seasons after. Thanks Justin I don’t know much about wrestling to be honest but typically my advice is always to get as much variety in your footage as possible. Get shots of the wrestling action from various angles in wide and close ups, but also get shots of the crowd, coach and ref. That way you’ll have plenty to work with in the edit. Also it would be worth recording some of the wrestlers on the team talking about the program, why they chose to join, what they learned, how far it will take them, that sort of thing. You can use that audio as narration for your recruiting and/or fundraising videos.
Great video man do you have any camera recommendations for recording indoor basketball games at a high school (with good lighting in the gym)? Also if it is below $1000 that would be helpful🙏🏾💯
What would you recommend for editing soft ware because I do highlight videos for my high school basketball team and I’m not sure what the best computer to use so I can improve my quality for the next season. Thank you for great advice from your video
The best softwares in terms of professional tools and having the ability to use third party plugins to push things even further, would have to be Premiere Pro and Final Cut X. That being said, you can always start with something else and eventually move on to one of these.

@@captibo I don't know all the rules of RUclips so I can't guarantee you that you will or will not get a strike. But most likely, if you use NBA footage, your video will be demonetised and potentially blocked. But probably no strike.
There’s no such thing as getting a free license to use NBA footage unless you are in a partnership with the NBA somehow. You’ll have to pay hundreds of dollars per second you put in your video if you want to use their footage legally. Unless you use it for commentary purposes but even if that’s what you think you’re doing you’ll have to convince them and that won’t be easy.
Do you think the Sony 18-135mm on an Sony a6400 would be able to get those closeups for my kids basketball games? I’m usually court side at one end of the court and they play in sports complexes with the courts right next to each other.
I guess it depends how tight you want these close-ups to be. 135mm probably won't get you a tight close-up at the other end of the court. However it should cover your half-court pretty well. So you can either switch from one end to the other when your team is switching side, or you can embrace the "far away" look which could be a good way to have a healthy mix of wide and close ups to work with in post.
It depends how far you are and how tight you want your shots to be really. But ideally you need to have some range so that all your footage doesn't look the same. Filming football you might be able to get away with a 70-200mm zoom lens but if you're filming basketball indoors you'd probably need more of a 24-70mm. But at 70mm you better not be filming from the back of the stands though.
Yes but if you post it on social media, you take the risk of it potentially getting blocked. And there’s no way to know in advance if a video will be blocked or not.
If you're talking specifically about the basketball footage, most of it was filmed a few years ago with my previous camera which was a Panasonic AG-AF102. But I don't even think they sell those anymore. I have a Canon C100 now which is what used to film my pieces to camera.
I am starting a basketball mixtape and highlights channel and do I have to go to the games and get my own videos and close ups of the game/players, or is there any other way I can get clips that I can edit into a mixtape or highlight video without physically being the person recording it?
Unless you work inside the NBA or ESPN you won’t be allowed to film or use any footage for commercial use. You can download footage on RUclips but every video you post with NBA footage in it could potentially be blocked by RUclips and result in a copyright strike at any time. Even if it’s been there for years without any issues.
So basically if you’re doing it just for fun than yeah just download NBA footage from RUclips, make all the videos you want, and what ever happens after that, happens. But if you think you’re going to make money out of this, that’s never going to happen.
Is there another sport you'd like me to explore in more details from a videography perspective?

What would be the best program to use making basketball videos
There's plenty of programs good enough to do that. I use Premiere Pro which is the most professional one but also the most expensive.
I'm editig a promo video for an esports event and this was very helpful. Thanks!
Hello, do you have any video tutorials about getting a license with nba so we can use their videos for highlight plays? Thanks
There’s no such thing as getting a free license to use NBA footage unless you are in a partnership with the NBA somehow. You’ll have to pay hundreds of dollars per second you put in your video if you want to use their footage legally. Unless you use it for commentary purposes but even if that’s what you think you’re doing you’ll have to convince them and that won’t be easy.
can you make a video on what gear you might need
Good idea, thanks.
What app are u using to edit the videos?
Premiere Pro
What would be the best program for editing video?
Depends on what your priorities are. Premiere Pro and Avid are the more professional ones but they’re also the most expensive options.
Good stuff
What editing software are you using?! This is dope!!
Thanks man, I use Adobe Premiere Pro.
BeyondTheGameTV sounds good, thanks man. Love these videos, keep up the good work!
how to make great highlight football/soccer video please
I’ll put it on the to-do list. Thanks 🙏
BRO IM STRIVING TO GET ON YOUR LEVEL 💯💯
Beyond the Game do you need to use a phone or camera to film basketball video's ?
You can use both but a proper camera with a full size lens will give you a better result.
I need editing software to use load in my computer that k you very interesting video I want to learn more editing
You can do it!
I thought you were Raleigh Ritchie for a sec. Great video btw!
What app do I use to do all of the edits?
I made a video about the 3 free editing software I recommend for beginners ruclips.net/video/_IlNH8du6aM/видео.html
What’s the best focal lengths when shooting with a dslr/ slr??
It depends how far you are and how tight you want your shots to be really. But ideally you need to have some range so that all your footage doesn't look the same. Filming football you might be able to get away with a 70-200mm zoom lens but if you're filming basketball indoors you'd probably need more of a 24-70mm. But at 70mm you better not be filming from the back of the stands though.
But what if you don’t have a computer or stuff that you have?
You can edit video on any smart phone.
@@BeyondTheGame_E what about if you only have a iPad?
@@AllGodNBA It's the same thing. Most apps are available on both phones and iPads.
Another question...Do you use one frame rate when you record, or do you use multiple frame rates?
Ideally I like to film sport action at the highest frame rate possible and then go down to 24/25fps when filming interviews.
🤔 this feels meetkevin inspired 😂
Don’t know who that is 🤷🏽
Is it possible to make one without filming stuff yourself, like pulling clips from the internet?
Yes but if you post it on social media, you take the risk of it potentially getting blocked. And there’s no way to know in advance if a video will be blocked or not.
What camera and lens did you use for this?
If you're talking specifically about the basketball footage, most of it was filmed a few years ago with my previous camera which was a Panasonic AG-AF102. But I don't even think they sell those anymore. I have a Canon C100 now which is what used to film my pieces to camera.
I am starting a basketball mixtape and highlights channel and do I have to go to the games and get my own videos and close ups
of the game/players, or is there any other way I can get clips that I can edit into a mixtape or highlight video without physically being the person recording it?
depends... are you talking about NBA highlights?
Beyond the Game TV yes that is what I’m talking about.
Ok thank you!
Are you using iMovie?
No, Premiere Pro.
