- Considered the founder of modern linguistics, Noam Chomsky is one of the most cited scholars in modern history. Among his groundbreaking books are Syntactic Structures, Language and Mind, Aspects of the Theory of Syntax, and The Minimalist Program, each of which has made distinct contributions to the development of the field. He has received numerous awards, including the Kyoto Prize in Basic Sciences, the Helmholtz Medal, and the Ben Franklin Medal in Computer and Cognitive Science. Chomsky introduced the Chomsky hierarchy, generative grammar, and the concept of universal grammar, which underlies all human speech and is based on the innate structure of the mind/brain. Chomsky has not only transformed the field of linguistics, but his work has also influenced fields such as cognitive science, philosophy, psychology, computer science, mathematics, childhood education, and anthropology. Chomsky is also one of the most influential public intellectuals in the world. He has written more than 100 books, his most recent being Climate Crisis and the Global Green New Deal: The Political Economy of Saving the Planet. Chomsky joined the UA in the fall of 2017, coming from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he worked since 1955 as a professor of linguistics, then Institute Professor, and now emeritus.
Sreenivasan Jain is Group Editor of NDTV, India's most respected 24hrs news and current affairs broadcaster. He presently anchors the award-winning daily show Reality Check, which aims at debunking official myths and government propaganda in a post-truth environment. It’s unfortunate that the journalist kept interrupting Chomsky. Let him finish his thought. Chomsky is wonderful at tying together otherwise seemingly disparate topics. Let him finish connecting the dots. Furthermore, continuing to say “hmmm” “right” “yes” is a clear indication that you are not actually listening to Chomsky. Edit: I see I’m not the only viewer who noticed this problem.
He has a roster of questions he was intent on asking. I'm thinking he's worried that won't happen, or he just wants to be the first interviewer to out think Chomsky. Like you said, you can just leave Noam alone and he'll eventually cover every important point. This interviewer has to relax a little. He's a bit green and impatient.

The interviewer interrupted Noam too much. Nobody cares about his questions. We the viewers prefer to let Noam loose and see what he comes up with and says

Chomsky will talk endlessly. He avoids hot issues like crime, abortion, inflation, why Deep State means, media monopoly and social media censorship, politisation of FBI, CIA etc.
This is precisely how you don’t conduct an interview, you are constantly cutting him off, first of all that’s impolite, and secondly who’s interested in your questions? Let him complete what he’s trying to say, and then pick up the thread from there. This is unfortunately prevalent across the whole spectrum of journalists in the country, which is why I hardly listen to any interviews conducted by them.

I agree, Chomsky actually started to say some good things that should be heard and he was being cut off.
But I don't blame the interviewer, I blame Chomsky of the past. Usually he is a puppet like Bernie and is the cause of all the problems and doesn't say anything worthwhile to hear. But Chomsky did better today, I think he has read some of my critiques of him. The democrat party needs to be strongly denounced just like the republican party should be. By supporting the democrat party in any way, Bernie and Chomsky are supporting the two party puppet system that is causing all the problems and keeping real people out of government.

Yeah. Because he knows, that the multi crisis brought us to the decisive moment of history, and 2 ways ahead: democracy and survival, or authoritarianism and painful declining.
What is not frequently mentioned is how the so called Main Stream Media keeps the progressives in a blackout, and keeps all the far right’s agenda in front of our eyes.
They say, far right is bad, like this like that, but they talk about them all the time, and giving free advertisement for them.
But if the progressives say, or do something, they don’t talk about them, making the people feel, like there is no left option, and opinion.
A leftist healthcare program can’t be discussed in mainstream media on an independent basis, because they have around the half of their ads from pharma.
They can’t talk about green transition without corporate bias, since they have plenty money from car industry, and other environmentally damaging industry.
So what mainstream media, with it’s advertisers do is, to suppress the real journalism by the power of money.
And the same goes to the way they talk about movements and so on.
As long as we don’t find a way to trick the rigged system of youtube, facebook, and so on, we can’t find each other, can’t communicate our agenda to each other and to new audience, since they carefully craft their algorythm to suppress it.
Even if we have many independent media content, to deliver it to it’s target audience is impossible with the present rigged tools.

"How do you fight it?" Is not the right question. The right questions and answers are being raised and said since many many years: The only way out of the misery is to turn inwards. For everyone of us. Because the outside world is a reflection of our inner processes. If you think this is nonsense, then go for a psychotraum work yourself. You will find things about yourself you have never thought possible. And then the world around you start to make more sense and you are starting to living the answers you are seeking for.

Prof Chomsky is so interesting to listen to, he likened India to Israel in that they were both
rightwing countries, both the same in their approach. He's right. Better to just listen to him
when you have him in your midst, talk less, learn more.

The only problem in America and everywhere in the world are corporations, so big and powerful, nobody can touch them. We need regulations of corporations no support from government and they must apply to the same rules as every company.
Oh Srinivasan Jain had forgotten. He thought he was interviewing Chomsky for the Reality Check show. Chomsky's analysis, as always, is much more deeper and insightful, connecting many points, to answer many of the complex questions.

He answered the question. He is saying that in order to prevent another Trump era, a counter-movement such as Bernie Sanders movement or activism, needs to be formed and go against Trumpism. No easy solution.
No, you didn't get it. He was saying populism movements are good. That is as close to saying that Trump is good as you can without saying it. Trump is doing to the republican party what Bernie is doing to the democrat party.
Chomsky did better in this video. He's usually more of a puppet of the D party and not worth listening to.

I still see those two as puppets because they haven't really accomplished anything yet in bringing any power to the people. Which one is worse? An authoritarian Saudi Arabia ruled by a king, or a Saudi Arabia ruled by an oil company? Basically, it would be the same thing. But the US is not a democracy either, it is an authoritative government ruled by the banking industry. No different than Saudi Arabia. We already have an authoritarian government. Let's say I became dictator of the US. The US would be closer to a democracy with me as it's dictator than it is today. Today, the people have zero power. If I was dictator, I would work for the people. It would be a democracy through me. So an authoritarian government isn't bad on it's face, it just depends who the authoritarian is.
I believe looking at the world as it is (if you are able to see through the brainwashing) and coming to your own conclusions is better than reading books. I really have never heard anyone else talk like I do, so I think reading books wouldn't help me much. I just look at the world. I see it how it is.

you can quit and or stay engaged and make the worse a little less likely... the thing is, it doesn't seem that the world wants to be saved. It seems that, even with our level of technology and means to make our life happy and meaningful, people seen to want to die or just do meaningless things.

The wealth aspect is interesting knowing the gages of debt are manipulated that hinder some as in those who seek a home a car and a small amount of wealth though a basic means, while those who have a vast amount of wealth have moved there own debt negatively in a way that actually helps them defend from competition. Honestly unless there is a drastic change in the system as it is there really seems to only be a predestined division, what I wonder is what would actually be needed to change the whole dynamic instead of just manipulating the current process.

Thank you Professor Naom Chomsky. As a common man, I like to say something regarding Indian context. A simple question is why the mass people of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are under poverty level? Main reason is religion and false nationalism. India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are spending billions of dollars on the military every year. If there is no existence of borders military expenditures will come down to half instantly. Other than China no military threats will remain. Untill and unless the new leadership of three countries are able to establish, job of a government is not to provide 'Sowarg/nark, Jannat/duzakh, Heaven/hell to the people, the situation will remain as it is. There is close bondage between corporate BJP/RSS and Pakistan's military mullahs. The same card is being played by both. Bangladesh is also part of the agreement. Either pro-Indian AL or pro-Pakistani BNP will suck the blood of mass people. If people are concerned then I think a reunion is a right proposition. Otherwise...

Indian corporate media is not very different from Fox News, MSNBC, CNN etc. Mainstream media is more about theatre and pushing a distorted narrative than presenting factual and critical analysis of sociopolitical and economic affairs in a country.

But the common theme of mainstream "journalists" not presenting a factual and impartial analysis of issues but rather resort to cheerleading of state policies (or surface level disagreements) with distorted narratives is common in corporate media in both India and USA.

The answer to the question "Who rules the world" is.. "THE people rule the world". Unfortunately we are not aware that we rule or call the shots in our world.. ie Just observe what happens in any country when a government passes a blatant anti people law. At first they grumble. Then as the New law takes effect the people protest accordingly. If the New law is anti people enough, the People Will withdraw their support to the Government and Will continue to protest by withdrawing co-operation with the government until the law goes or the government goes. A government acts against the people at it's own peril. IT is not a pretty sight to watch a government lose it's power. This is essentially what happens when there is conflict between a People and it's government, almost without exceptión.Sometimes it's a brief conflict and sometímes it's a long and nasty debacle but the outcome is always the same.The People always get what they desire.

So much to the negative publicity for 'interrupting Chomsky'. Actually the interviewer appeared quite patient. Yes he did interrupt slightly but it is supposed to be a dialogue right.. not a speech..
Have been watching so many past interviewers of Frankfurt school scholars. They are interrupted so much, but no one talks about it.
