The US, at the end of WW2, had about half the wealth of the world and thought it out to own the world because of this. it's interesting to recognize that we are living through a time where the current dominant empire of the world has more control than any preceding empires in history. 1000 years from now (if humans can last this long), this period of time will be looked back on in a similar fashion as we today look back on the romans during the height of their power. i dont think it's recognized how significant and unique a position the US has in world history, and as somewhat of a history buff, i find it fascinating to speculate on what future generations will think about the US when they study it's rise, and inevitable fall.
