  • This video is about my experience as a firefighter for the city of Little Rock. I talk about the bullying and discrimination I faced as an autistic individual. This video is for educational purposes and is not intended to be slander towards anyone. I am only telling the truth.

As a veteran fire officer, I watched this video twice to see what the problem was. Unfortunately, this “officer” doesn’t understand your condition and doing things as you mentioned, could trigger issues, such as hiding equipment, etc. I am sorry you underwent this.
One thing that strikes me is the passion for the profession and your strive to be the best. I wish you the best of luck in your search and i think Little Rock FD should probably have some training on autism.

I was an Air Force firefighter and we also turned the hose connect backwards to find the starting spot so we would not cross thread the hose. I also dont see how after 4 hours of training, anyone could "turn off" a hydrant faster, or what purpose it would serve to do so. We also never had someone barking orders following us around with a camera. Their training department needs help. This was noted recently on a highway cam video of a LRFD car fire response where the fireman pulled the hose into an active lane of freeway traffic without looking to see that cars were coming at 65 mph. Id hire you. You are really dedicated and trying hard to please this guy.

First and foremost I truly admire your ability to overcome your autism and live out your dream of being a firefighter. Well done to you brother. I hope you can keep that dream a reality. Now.....this isn't a bad company officer. His tact may be a little harsh but we're talking about firefighting here. One comment below says your officer "doesn't understand your condition" well neither does a fire. You need major work on your skills. And from what I have seen about from this video was that it was filmed over several days. It looks to me like your company officer had you out drilling at your departments training ground. You know why he was doing that? Because he cares about his company. He cares about you being able to do your job and he cares about the citizens you're paid to protect.
Please understand that this isn't a personal attack on you. I don't know you but I do know that if you had public service in your heart then you must be a good person. Your company officer isn't bullying you here nor is he discriminating against you. He was trying to make you better.
Understand I am only commenting on what I saw from your video. I don't know the whole back story. I wish you the best of luck brother firefighter.

As a veteran fire officer, I would go to any fire emergency with you, brother. Keep your head up. YOU ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. It's people with rank status who do not understand what it is to be a leader.

As a member of the Fire service!!! I would like to make a disclaimer!!! I am not here to create any negativity or two disrespect anyone!!!
I would like to share my thoughts regarding this video 🗣️
I do not see anything wrong with how the instructor is conducting himself!!! He is providing constructive criticism!!!!!
I would like to make one thing clear!!! Fire fighting is not a 9 to 5 career we can be working for over 24 TO 72 hours straight!!!!People dial 911 and peoples lives are on the line we are the last line of defense. We better be ready to work not nine hours not 16 hours 24 hours ready to respond to all types of emergencies Medical emergencies, Fire, emergencies!!!
And on top of all of the calls for service. It is extremely important that we still train even if we we are running calls all day training never stops!!!!
I would like to make one thing clear SIR!!! it looks like you need additional training!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!! Please don’t take anything personal. We are brothers and sisters here in the fire service. We are here to help one another!!!
Please stay safe out there keep up the hard, amazing work!!!! Stay positive!!!!
And please don’t take anything personal. The fire service is a very unique service. And it’s true honor to help others and their time of need.!!!!
Please brother wrap the hydrant!!! Once the fire hydrant is wrapped with the hose!!! Please step aside tell your engineer the driver of the apparatus to GO!!! Once the engine pose away when safe to do so come back to the hydrant make sure to test the hydrant depending on you SOP’s!!!! if you don’t have visuals with your engineer, radio, your engineer and ask the engineer if they’re ready for water!!!! if they’re ready for water, confirm water coming turn the hydrant on your own business!!!!
Cheers from the West Coast ✌️✌️✌️✌️

This is a poor training officer. Instead of waiting for something to criticize he should relieve stress by guiding and explaining to educate the recruit, but it is Little Rock. Dont give up just find a good department as there are plenty that are looking for good men and women.

I wasn't able to go career fire with my background but I was able to fulfill and go waaaaaaaay beyond anything as volunteer firefighter and emergency medical responder.. Did 15 yrs of service over 2 departments.... So maybe try to find a volunteer department that will value you more
