Production Designer - Joe Alves Interview - JAWS - Deluxe Edition

Alves has designed three features for Steven Spielberg, firstly for The Sugarland Express. He designed the three mechanical sharks for the movie Jaws (1975) with mechanical effects man Bob Mattey and he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction and won the BAFTA for Best Art Direction for his work on Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

This is probably my favorite interview thus far from Deluxe Edition. Maybe because I am really into behind-the-scenes production stuff right now and am discovering a lot of people, previously unknown to me, who do those jobs. I am familiar enough to know though that this guy is a legend in his field and, unfortunately, this is an overlooked field in film at least as far as the fame, the credit, etc.
Volunteering to help Joe dig around for the Jaws 3-D reels.

I did not have the best experience meeting this guy. He must have been having a bad day. He was complaining all the time that he the talent was not being treated the way talent should be treated, he was the only guy complaining.🙄
