    Another great interview.. I had a drink with Joe on Martha's Vineyard and managed to have a brilliant discussion with him about Jaws 3D. At that time he didn't know that Simon MacCorkindale had passed away and the news stopped him in his tracks when I told him. Joe then went on to tell me how wonderful MacCorkindale was to work with and that his style in the movie, down to the stubble, was inspired by Indiana Jones.

    Thanks for all the interviews 🙌🏼
    What strikes me, is all the humbleness of the people involved in Jaws and Jaws 2.
    Joe Alves is simply a legend.

    • @marc1128
      @marc1128 Год назад +3

      no he was a brilliant production designer on 1 and 2, I could have made a better jaws film than jaws 3 at age 12...jaws 3 was horrendous including the direction, amazing he did it so bad!

    • @dougmasters4579
      @dougmasters4579 Год назад +2

      @@marc1128 Nah, Jaws 3 works great as a straight forward B-movie monster film in the same vain as Piranha (1978) and Alligator (1980). Alves did well to make a truly fun sequel. Jaws 3 has an original & interesting story/setting (with many plot points ripped off by the first two Jurassic Park movies). It also has a light tone, good pacing, a good cast (including Dennis Quaid and Lea Thompson) and a great score by Alan Parker. The only problem was the 3-D sfx, which should've been removed or redone for tv/video releases.

    • @marc1128
      @marc1128 Год назад

      nah piranha and alligator are great and have great attack scenes, there isn't one good shark scene in jaws 3, just look at the water ski group, so badly done...I could have made better at 12, no joke...jaws the revenge at least has a few decent shark scenes and uses Williams brilliant soundtrack, 3 does none of this

    • @dougmasters4579
      @dougmasters4579 Год назад +1

      @@marc1128 What about the scene where Fitzroyce is baiting the shark and you see it coming slowly out the depths and eventually eating him? That's a great attack scene. I like Jaws 4 as well, Sean Brody's death at the beginning is brutal. I like all three Jaws sequels, very underrated.

    • @Paul07791
      @Paul07791 Год назад

      @@dougmasters4579 On what planet are they "very underrated"? These are sequels to one of the biggest films of all times; they have been seen way more than they deserve and personally I saw Jaws III the other day, fuck me it sucks. Underrated is like Monster Squad (overshadowed by The Goonies), Hard Target (overshadowed by The Fugitive?!), The Mist (no idea)...

    Loved what Jo did with the shark in Jaws 1 where it ate the pier. In Jaws 2 Jo was great as Eddie. Not easy to direct and act at the same time. In Jaws 3 when Spielberg wanted to do the sci-fi shark, it was ultimately Jo who said no, and then we got the whole 3D genre. Mind you, Speilberg went on to do Jurassic Park.

    He didn't mention that there was at least THREE full sized sharks used, plus a some fins that they dragged behind boats, etc.
    But he's knocking on in years. Wish he'd talked about Escape From New York.

    Regarding the opening scene of the divers around the ORCA the lettering on the end of the vessel was definitely different than what was originally on the ORCA in JAWS. But Joe did explain how that happened. Great to know! Outside of that, it didn’t pull me away from the enjoying the movie.
    Great behind the scenes information from Joe Alves! Loved It! 👍👍👍👍

  • @roycem4945
    @roycem4945 11 месяцев назад +1

    Joe is talented as an art director. However, the opening 19:05 shark attack scene is way better directed than Joe's 2nd unit filming of the shark attack on the ski boat. Additionally, the re-design of the shark gave it a huge fake looking protruding bottom jaw. And the bland coloring and its sealed throat made the shark in Jaws 2 laughable.

  • @douglastaggart9360

    The one big mistake in Jaws 2 is the shark killing the killer whale we know know great whites are terrifying of killer whales

    • @johnfrusciante6548
      @johnfrusciante6548 15 дней назад

      The shark killing an Orca is to show just how menacing and formidable this particular shark truly was and the danger it imposes on Amity. Even It's own natural predator couldn't stop this particular shark.
      Also, its a slight jab at the film 'Orca, the Killer Whale' which was a Jaws "rip-off". In that film, the Orca kills a Great White.

    The helicopter scene was the dumbest scene 8n the film. I don't know how a pro like Alves thought that was believable! I love the film but the darker version of Hancock and novelist Searls would have made a better Jaws II.

    • @Mike-wf1nm

      He was great with second unit stuff. Not sure he was a great actor's director, based on the rancidness of the script/acting in Jaws 3.
