I like your CEX theory but the processor in that is too new for anything besides Windows 10. You're Siri may hold some water but what I believe happened is someone just pretty much tried to fresh install Windows 10 when they had special drivers that windows can't automatically grab.

Cheap crap to give to kids or people with no idea, and it’s terrible as a 10 year old proper laptop is more usable, and will still out live it. Intel shouldn’t have bothered with the Atom line.

I have an Asus equivalent model that basically stopped working when the Windows update expanded to larger than the internal storage capacity (well done Microsoft). I converted to full Ubuntu and it works like a charm, coupled to a 128GB SD card it makes a great laptop for travelling and charges from my phone charger so minimal clutter.

vince this is definitely a fix as a mechanic we deal with simple issues all the time like a radio that just needed to be updated to the latest firmware to make it work you still have to diag the problem trouble shoot it and then do the "repair" so that is what you did here you confirmed the complaint you trouble shooted it you found the problem and you corrected it thus it is a fix and i think you did a great job working on this

When installing drivers manually, it's always a good idea to install the chipset ones first, as they sometimes, present other, 'software devices', that need to then be installed afterwards. Sound is generally a standalone driver, though, as is the graphics. Card readers, touch screen, etc. are usually associated with the mainboard, i.e. chipset drivers.

You did a good job Vince, the times i get computers to fix because of updates that people expect to help their computers,it changes the drivers and makes some hardware useless ! (even had on mine) but capable of sorting !...most people don't have the ability to sort this, then they think it's dead or done, then buy a new one ! when there is nothing wrong with the one they had ! more landfill !

Hey, love your channel, mate Vince. :) Just a note, often computers break, and (more than) often the problem is 1. WiFi driver- 2. Realtek sound drivers, laptop keyboard drivers (too often actually, some group like the BSC or whomever should set a 'generic driver' standard or whatever, (I don''t know never had to join them yet)). These things can cause non-starts, BSOD, random freezes and the like, similar to bad RAM back in the day. Good catch! I know this through a lot of experience and you have came leaps and bounds from you're earlier videos. Well done.

These are common symptoms on these 2 in 1... Most people have issues re-installing drivers on these and some times they just dump them.
Mines a simple one, 1gb ram, 16 internal, you wouldnt believe how quick the thing actually is on windows 8. Got it upgraded to 10, just like yours, and the thing was struggling even to open the start menu, and also had some of these issues.
Simply rolling it back to windows 8 fixed it all and now I love the thing, been using it for a year by now.

Great video! I experienced the same driver quite frequently with less popular laptops. My advice would be to buy a usb to ethernet dongle in case the Wi-Fi is not working, since usually windows 10 would actually install the necessary drivers automatically as soon as it has the internet connection.

Most of the modern internet uses SSL, which is time and date sensitive. If the local time is way before or past the SSL cert's valid before date/expiration date, then you get an error. Windows does use internet time servers to keep their times correct, however, if the local time is drastically different from that of the NTP (time) server, then it won't update (there would probably be a log entry in Event Viewer about this). So by manually adjusting the time, everything starts working again as normal.
So if you ever have another computer that you fix, I suggest that the first thing you should do once you get it up and running is to check that the date and time is correct. Will save you from dealing with odd issues that you would not normally suspect are date/time related.

      @phreapersoonlijk 3 года назад

@@HoboVibingToMusic True, but think about an alternative. Nothing fancy, nothing too strong, but something made out of ABS plastic. There is a source where you can buy ABS plastic tools which are quite sturdy when used right, and you can get them for pennies. Literally pennies.
Check a site called bricklink com and just search for 'brick separator' and see what comes up.
MAN, they'll hate me when they find out tho. BUT, you can get those for pennies per tool. They will NOT break whatever you're working on, and you can use them however you want because, you know what, they're only one to a few pennies a piece.
No expensive pry tools made from nylon or so, you save them for later. You use a brick separator for the hard stuff, where breaking one isn't that big of a deal.

  • @fluffyblue4006
    @fluffyblue4006 3 года назад

Leave a device like that unused and the real-time clock / management circuit will drain the battery until the battery's internal protection circuit cuts power. In that state, the battery management will basically act like a diode: letting charge coming in but nothing coming out. That's why you got 0V at the initial battery measurement.
In this state, the device sees no battery management and will only perform a trickle charge. After some time, the cell's voltage raises enough to wake up the battery management. It will talk to the device and it will start normal operation: start fast-charging.
Previous owner probably did not try long enough with his 3rd-party power supply, or his 3rd-party power supply just didn't have the right plug, voltage, or polarity.
Good that you came to the rescue, because if the cell voltage drops really low due to self-discharge and time, the battery management will permanently disable the battery's ability to be charged forever, for safety reasons.
After that point, reviving the battery by opening it and charging the lipo cell directly can be dangerous: at very low voltage, internally, it chemically forms solid structures that can penetrate the isolation and it can cause an internal short. Maybe not right then and there. It can also short after some charge cycles. A short wouldn't be an issue on a totally empty cell. But if that cell has a decent charge in it when it shorts, it will be a very energetic event: it will locally destroy the internal structure, create an even 'better' short, heat up and boil the flammable electrolyte. The pressurized electrolyte gas will burst though the hot weak spot. The short's sparks will ignite the gas. There's already an oxidizer present in the cell, so no oxygen needed. It will act like a mini flamethrower that cannot be put out easily. It will just ignite everything in its reach, including eventually your whole house, if you're not there to toss it out.

which is probably why it was up for sale in the first place as they didn't know how to download and install those drivers externally via USB. how did you resolve the charging up the battery issue if it didn't come with a charger?

Here in the US, I can get a bag of every laptop charger bit ever made for $13, and then you use a standard 5.5x2.5 charger which are super common.
also SDI Origin is good for getting basic drivers installed, you download a massive pack of drivers and let it get basic drivers. if you just are having no luck with drivers, SDIO should let you try out more generic drivers.

Once the battery is flat the BMS on these won't permit a charge. You can charge these with a bench supply. Just have to be careful. Constant current initially, then a long slow constant voltage never exceeding the cell max.
Once it's above the low voltage cutoff, the regular charge circuitry will take over for you.

The reason it took so long for the battery to come up from being 100% discharged to 0v is because you have to slowly trickle charge lithium cells to their lower working voltage when they are discharged to 0v. The battery protection circuitry automatically does this, usually charging between 20-100mA until the battery reaches its lower working voltage rating, usually somewhere between 2.0-2.5v. If you smash a lithium cell with full battery voltage when completely discharged, the battery can be damaged from the heavy current draw, and potentially go on fire. Even if it doesn't go on fire, the damage caused can make the battery unstable and potentially have a catastrophic failure later.
As for the reason why the battery is completely flat, it could be that the laptop discharged it with parasitic draw, or it could be that the battery is internally failing and has a short between the plates somewhere. You can see if the battery has internal parasitic draw by charging it, disconnecting it from the laptop and measuring the voltage. The voltage should stay steady, if it starts dropping immediately, the battery is bad and should be replaced.
And about "3rd party chargers" DON'T BUY THEM OR USE THEM. ALWAYS GET OEM CHARGERS. No, they are not anywhere near as good as OEM. Many of them are fire hazards and often can kill your equipment because they're built so poorly. If you see a laptop charger with words like "REPLACEMENT AC ADAPTER" and it feels light and cheaply made, throw it away. If OEM is not available, buy one of the brand name universal chargers, not the crap from Amazon. Yes, they are a lot more expensive, but you're buying quality and don't have to worry about your laptop being killed by a shoddy adapter, or that the shit adapter will burn your house down. Sometimes you can also get away with using an OEM adapter for another laptop, just check the voltage and amperage. Many laptop OEMs use the exact same vendors of laptop power bricks and just change the label on them.

I have a similar Acer Atom piece of crap that came with Windows 7, and pushed it up to Win10. I had to go through the same exact driver marathon that you had to go through. WiFi, audio and all - although the touchscreen worked by default at least.

You are one of the people that would actually get their money's worth out of DriverEasy, specifically the technician's license.

The manufacturer normally has its drivers on his homepage, so you could try downloading and installing them. In some cases the devices only show up in device manager if you installed the drivers first.
Also you should always use the setup.exe that is delivered with the driver. It also installs extra stuf that the driver sometimes need to function correctly.

how to fix an acer or an hp laptop, step one put them on the floor, step to take sledgehammer & hit them repeatedly, step three go have a beer :P

It is Nandi, I really like the Seiko 5s, good reliable automatic movement, not too expensive and a day/date which is a nice bonus 👍

"DriverEasy" is a great bit of software that would have found and installed all of these drivers in one session? I've used a pro license for years on heaps of different PC's and it has never missed a hardware driver? Manually install the WiFi driver if there's no Ethernet connection and then run DriverEasy, simples.
Also running the factory executable file for each driver would have saved a lot of time as well? was there any new BIOS updates available as they may have fixed the problem from re-occurring?
Just my two cents mate, keep up the good work Vince.

once i contacted acer on how to open such a thing and they just gave me a part of the service manual which describes on how to start taking it apart using a thin plastic tool.
    Actually worked without breaking.
But it wasn´t faultym just wanted to know if mine had a m.2 slot as other models from this series had but sadly no.

Love your style in your videos! Lol, I have the exact same problem with my Acer Switch 10 and wanted to download the drivers you used after watching your video. However, could not find any proper ones for my device. Could you please tell me which website you got those drivers! Thank you!

In this situation with dead tablet, quicker to put some power straight into the battery after seeing its down. THEN allow the computer to take the lead in charging activation and level increase and all should be good. Some of these batteries just seem to discharge for what ever reason. If the computer is working ok but multiple driver type things are not working, yes, its likely drivers and windows wasnt enough with their built in drivers and a trip to the website or even their update program to detect and download what this product needs can be useful but you will need to download that program at least. Yeah injecting some amps just for 1 min usually is enough for the circuit to turn back on and power up and start charging. Do this basic stuff first before tracing faults as its very common on so many i have worked on. You can also bodge up a modest charging circuit directly to the battery from the port if that circuit goes out too.

Those bezels though! You know a device really shows its age by the size of bezels around the screen.

    • @TemporalOnline

They are ugly, but if I had to choose 2 with same specs but the bezeless ones from today and this... I'd be inclined to thake these just because I can hold it 99% better without accidentally touching the screen AND probably acidentally bump it and it will still come unscathed - though 3/4s of this bezel could be shaved off with the same effect.
