Last year I found some wild roses in a ditch behind our property. (live out in the country) I was walking around finding different plants/flowers, bugs, reptiles any type of nature that I could put in an app in my phone so that I know what is around my house. I saw this most beautiful light pink flower and as I got closer I realized that it was a rose bush. I never realized that there were wild roses near our home, lived here 19 years and never knew. I thought to myself that some day I would dig some up to have in my garden. I learned that it was called a prairie rose. I did however go back several weeks later to get seeds from them. I never thought that other people went rose hunting like that, kind of cool to know that other people had the same idea as I did (to take them home)💗🌹

Great that y’all are saving the heritage roses for continuing the breed of antique roses ! My grandmother had old roses she had grown from her mother they were called 7 sister roses Each stem had 7 blooms on it and they were sort what would be called today “ tea roses” the blooms were only about 2-3 inches across and they were a rose pink color and had the sweetest smell to them ! I took a cutting and put the Y of a stem and put it in a coke bottle in water and set it in the sun and rooted it - rooting this way takes sbout 6 weeks to root but grows easily and I made a couple of plants yo have in my yard ! They are running roses and I planted them on my fence and let them take over and they ran together across the front of my fence ! They were so beautiful , just as I know y’all’s roses will be ! Love talk ❤️🙏✝️🙋🏻

Wow Ozella is hidden so well. I can’t wait to see if they hatch. I remember when you showed her nest in the woods at the original Cog Hill.
I pulled over with a friend to cut a few sunflowers 🌻 from the side of the highway and the MO State Trooper pulled over and said it is illegal to pick plants and flowers on the side of the highway. He said they are planted to help with erosion. We were only cutting flowers not digging up the plant. I guess each state has their own rules.
    Those roses are beautiful.

My frugal mom was always 'shopping' by the roadside... collecting little slips of wild and orphaned flowers. Many have ended up flourishing. It's a bit like Botanical Rescue.. spread & save. JUST make SURE there are no 'invasive' plants.
We made the mistake of buying a few Barberry bushes.. that never should have been offered... and are NOW illegal to sell in most states. Trying to eradicate them is a real chore since the birds spread their seeds. Their thorns are nasty and they choke out natural fauna.

Awesome! You have lots of babies on their way. Are you sure Mary Carl does’t have a stork nearby?
Love getting free plants. I never knew until I went to college that you could buy plants. We always collected cuttings and plants dug up from old farmhouses or on the side of the road. You go Jason, Brooke, and MaryCarl…enjoy your new roses and little babies on the farm.
When we go hiking I always have a couple empty water bottles, a couple full ones and paper towels. I am always bringing home small plants, cacti and various plants, bits of wood, small interesting rocks, feathers…well you name it. Cacti fit perfect in plastic bottles, and I do not get thorns/glochids, etc stuck in my backpack. I cut about 1/2 to 2/3 the way around the plastic bottke, fold back the new lid and pop the plant, cutting or cacti into the water bottle. A little moisture on the paper towel in the bottom of the bottle. And, I do carry rooting powder👍
In my backpack I have snacks too😎

I am so excited to see Ozella and Scott's babies! When you peeked around the corner of the barn I thought it was a snapping turtle. 😳 I've had those volunteer roses grow on my brush pile. Just LOVE them!!! 🌹 💐 🌹

I can't wait to see all of those beautiful rose bushes. My grandma had a lot of bushes around her home and I always loved looking at them. She had so many different shades of pink, red, and almost white.

I absolutely love that y'all rescue roadside roses! I've rescued roadside plants for most of my life, my most unusual were amaryllis. It was like a nursery truck just dumped them out years ago & they had multiplied.
