The Veyron is, quite probably, one of (if not THE) best car that was ever built. You might think: "MMMMH The Agera is much faster!" "Mmmh the Chiron obliterates it easily." "Mmmh its useless and slow and heavy around a track." You are right. You are absolutely right. But you need to understand the importance of the car, in which parameters and circumstances that it was built. This car achieved what everyone believed to be impossible: to have a car going over 390km/h, managing to keep itself on the ground, without every stitch, every trim smashing themselves to pieces as they come off and (most importantly) do it so comfortably. Say whatever you want but this car is the daddy for the modern hypercar. It is thanks to this very car that nowadays we have others like the Agera, Jesko, Huayra and Chiron to name a few. This car and VW deserve the upmost respect for achieving such goals.
True but this has way more torque. The only way an F1 car with it's small engine displacement can make power is with high rpm. A Golf R likely has more torque then an F1 car. And like Jeremy said it has to last waaaaay longer, years instead of 2/3 of a race season. And the car is 2,5 times heavier then an F1 car, which also puts more strain on the drivetrain.
And mind you, this was in 2005/2006, when the engineering was absolutely nowhere near what it is today. Not that they were in the stone age back then, but still
The Veyron was a quantum leap, it weighs 2 tons and still accelerates from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, it took a 2000hp Rimac and a purpose built Dodge Challenger to beat it, it’s got a radiator just to cool the hydraulic fluid that raises the wing, the engine alone is a marvel, a W16 with quad turbos, it was the first time that combination had been put together, it’s just an insane car.
I know its just a show and a lot is scripted but am i the only one who genuinely respects jeremys opinions? You cans ay what you want but normally i dont care one bit about celebritys opninion but i just trust him😂😂
@@beardedgeek973 That's your opinion lol, a lot of people think the koegnigsegg are good looking while they hate the look of the bugattis. Personally I like both. and I don't know what you mean by the fact they ain't drivable. They may not be the most fuel efficient car but they sure as hell are steady and have great steering control.
Even though the Chiron is better in practically every way, the Veyron was waaay harder to make, since it was 100% developed from nothing. The Chiron continued where the Veyron left, that's why now a days they can sell a chiron for about 3M and still get some profit out of it
I don't know, I think I'll always prefer the Veyron over any other hypercar. Onlu because it's the car that really blew the world away. Everything else that cam after was a natural progression. But this was a giant leap.

This is a rant. A rant on just how beautiful this car is to Clarkson and how frustrating it is to believe for a second how a car like this was made. But honestly I never liked the Veyron. But it is insanely fast.
I used to deliver parts into their facility in Shoreham-By-Sea. Also used to send Ford prototypes on trailers for testing. My drivers mentioned that there many different supercars parked other there for testing purposes. Grea facility.
100 quid to fill up a 100 litre tank...😭
Yeah, that was depressing to hear
Tbh it's now a grand
And the fact that it was the most expensive car at 840,000£
£1 in the year 2000 was the equivalent of £1.64 today so it was actually more expensive than today lol
Pre 2008 was a blessed time

The car in the studio was a prototype. Notice the side vents at 1:36
I noticed that looks sick
1:54 now f1 cars have over 1000 horses and the gearbox has to last about 8 races, trainings and qualis at full speed - which is pretty impressive

Nothing ever quite hit the same as the Veyron originally did.
Ugly
Ranting is negative. That's not what Jezza seems to be doing here.
He’s raving, as Hammond said.
