    Fantastic and fair review. I ordered a Q4 and completely discounted the Tesla until I drove one at Tesla dealer. I was so impressed I cancelled my Q4 order and bought the Tesla. It's been 6 months and I love it so much. I still love the Q4's styling better though.

      Your experience is I am sure being repeated all over the world right now. Tesla are gaining market share at the expense of all the ICE based OEMs but it is the German premium brands who are suffering the most. We all know how bad VW Group software is but no one is close to Tesla in the efficiency of the electric drive train. Germany and Japan may make some of the best combustion engines in the world but it is rapidly becoming a case of...who cares!?

    We are waiting for our Q4 E-Tron 40 Black Edition Sportback, which is due early July. I can appreciate Tesla lead the way in regard to innovative infotainment experiences, but the aesthetics and the general feel inside the cabin for me just doesn’t match a level I am used to with German cars. I’m not fussed on the minimalist feel and the lack of physical buttons to go with the touchscreen experience. The Q4 has buttons for the heated seats, and cabin temperature settings which I think are important to be at easy access for the driver. Both decent cars though but the Q4 won it for me.

    I had a Audi Q4 for 4 months but returned it and got a Model Y 2023. 0 regrets here. While the Audi is luxury everywhere, the UI and software is shit and the driving assist sucks. Also range was way worse on Q4. + had a terrible experience ordering a Q4, waited over 1.5 years to get mine and missed few options I really wanted and audi kept pushing back the delivery date and asking me if I was OK to remove stuff like electric seats etc to get it faster which is pathetic. Q4 was beautiful though but just not for me. If you care about assisted driving and good software get Tesla

      Our Audi q4 has 320 miles range, the technology and software is absolutely brilliant! The way the car pulls off is incredibly fast!!! It’s sooo smooth to drive. Very comfortable and definitely a premium vehicle. I don’t know what version of the q4 you’ve had but our range is brilliant, way more than Tesla range.

    Choice is simple. If you want an ev for the range, performance, charging network and the tech that it has to offer then there is none superior to tesla. If you are buying an ev for the interior and exterior look and feel and sacrifice everything else an ev has to offer then what is the point of buying an ev. Just buy the gasoline counterpart. You will get much better luxury, comfort, handling and bang for your buck.

      There was no Tesla that met my needs (hatchback) or price points when I got the Kia e-Niro in 2019 but have to say my experience has been one of total reliability and tiny running costs over 80,000 km and 4 years. Last year I covered 85% of my 19,500 km of driving from the solar panels on my roof. When Tesla make a smaller car I will be interested for sure.

    I never wanted a Tesla until I drove one. I came from manuals, sports cars, DCTs, M3, M4, X6M, Cayenne GTS, Cayman, Abarths and more. The Model Y is a perfect sized car, any smaller and it'd be uncomfortable and any bigger it'd feel like a boat. The build quality, at least for the newer ones made in China, is perfect. I don't know personally how bad the build qualities were before 2023 models, but I have friends who hated theirs. I've test driven the Ioniq 5, EV6, GV60, PHEV X5, PHEV Panamera, PHEV Cayenne, PHEV Toyotas and the Model Y is simply MILES ahead of the competition in every way possible. Sure, it's a bit bland looking inside and out, but the parts that REALLY matter like convenience, driving and controls are unbeatable. That being said, I am now a happy owner of the Model Y.

    I agree with all your comments apart from the warranty / service point that you glossed over. The Tesla has a long warranty which generally gets repaired on your driveway if indeed you actually have a problem, whereas the Audi is a 3 year warranty apart from the battery. I had a model 3 that had 2 faulty headlights that were changed on my drive in a morning. Apart from that it was faultless. I also have a Audi RS GT which has done 7k miles and Audi Caffyns have nearly had it in their workshops more than I have had it on the road. That’s acceptable before the warranty runs out but could be very costly after that! It looks great and is quick, but Audi have a lot to do before they catch up with Tesla. I even asked them to buy it back because it kept letting us down and they said they had too much car stock??? 😳 Would I buy another Audi………No!

      @@morten_hannesbo Interesting. I live in the UK and have found the opposite with Tesla, whereas when my Audi failed to charge, I rang Caffyns Audi and they were booked up for 2 weeks solid. That’s not much use to me when I live out in the country and I spent over 130k on a car that does not charge after doing only 7000miles! I feel that Audi rushed the Etron production trying to keep up with the likes of Tesla when they should have refined it first. The Tesla model 3 on the other hand seems very reliable with a fantastic range but falls short on interior quality. I would have purchased a model S plaid had they been available but it seems they are not making this model in RHD.

For feedback I would add a bit of video of each car on each point, for example on room, show clips what each has, or charging, show the chargers and some screen shots, or luxury, focus the camera on something the Audi does well like stitching. Stitching!...You would buy a car based on how good the stitching on the seats is? All these German 'premium' brands are way behind Tesla and the Chinese when it comes to software and efficiency. They try to compensate by loading them up with enormous batteries but I'm afraid the inferiority still shines through. Audi may still be the best bet if ride and refinement are your most important thing, Tesla need to do some work there but stitching? 😂

    Many of the points awarded to the Q4 were considered marginal victories with the Tesla being very close. Changing those full points to half points make the scoring a little more accurate (according to the commentator's comments) would really show how far apart the 2 vehicles are. I own a 2023 Model 3 Performance and my wife owns a 2022 Q4 50 Prestige. In my personal opinion, the only real advantages that the Q4 has are that it doesn't look like an electric vehicle and the 4 ringed logo gives it perceived value. Much of the Q4 interior uses cheap feeling piano black (fingerprint and dust magnet) plastic. Don't get me wrong, Tesla also uses plenty of cheap feeling materials. Both should be better for the price. As most electric vehicle owners know, the amount of physical service needed is minimal and after dealing with the Audi dealership buying process and Tesla buying process, give me a Tesla center any day of the week. The real key to Tesla and service are the over the air updates. Audi has apparently begun to change to OTA, but if you don't already have it, expect your vehicle to be in the shop for multiple DAYS while they do the update. I suspect that any updates that do come will be minimal while Tesla is constantly updating cars that are 5+ years old with new features. If you really want an Audi, the early reviews of the Q8 (obviously more money) look solid.

    Good review but not quite in agreement. Interior design and quality, Audi way more superior, not 1 point superior but two to three points superior. Suspension, Audi's suspension way way more superior, again, not 1 point superior but two to three points superior. Overall quality of construction, no doubt Audi is superior. Acceleration should not have been compared as it is a programable thing and they are programmed different. Charging, well, again, it is a program thing, so not comparable. For me when including these they are very well in balance in points and at least to me they should be similar but different at the same time.

      Hi Robby, thx for commenting. The Q4 is my privately owned car and my family and I love it. We also have an Audi RS7 in the family and previously we had A8, Q3, Q7, Q8, RS6 and others. The Q4 e-tron is built in Zwickau at a VW factory on the same line as the ID.4 from VW, and you clearly see that the Audi has VW quality and fit and finish, a lot of hard plastics, and it is not at the level of other Audis. Build quality is good, but the perceived quality is below e.g. an A6 or A4. If you want the high Audi quality in a BEV you will have to go for the Q8 e-tron. The comparison with Tesla Y is interesting, especially as I tested the 2023 (May production) Tesla Y longrange this week (video to follow). The Tesla build quality and ride comfort is now at the level of VW ID.4/5 and Audi Q4 e-tron. There is a reason why Tesla outsells everyone else in the BEV segment (Tesla Y sold 15x more than Audi Q4 e-tron in 2023!). I'll still keep the lovely Q4 e-tron, but do mind the gap to Tesla, which has nearly disappeared.

    What? Audi design is conservative ???? I am a automobile designer and a german architekt of industrial design, like the bauhaus and the Ulmer School in Germany. Audi makes a progressive automobile design-language with a individual light-design. The Tesla disign is easy and boring, like the chinese fake-designs. Look at the Tesla Light-design and of course the ugly Wheel-design: just boring. No extravagant design-language. Typical american style. Tesla cars quality is bad, since the begin. The technical development of hardware is catastrophal. The Service-Center-structure is very very bad in Germany. The software is good, but the rest..??

    • @ghostrider_2005
      @ghostrider_2005 Год назад +1

      Conservative as in, the vehicle sticks more to original vehicle designs as their fossil-fuel counterparts whilst Tesla and some other brands really go for a futuristic/minimalistic look. Besides, you might not like the design of Tesla, but the minimalistic design is actually one of the main selling points for some people. The tech, performance and clean interior/exterior has become a strong competitor on the market. It just depends on personal choice. Usually you just have to decide between luxury/comfort and performance/tech, but if you truly want the best bang for your buck when it comes to EV's, Tesla is still the way to go. The build quality the last year or so has improved tremendously, the drive assist is better and it provides more features for the money. I'm personally looking at Audi/BMW, but the price is just not comparable atm. You pay a lot more to gain comfort and lose pretty much everything else that makes ev's interesting.
