Yeah, like every other person in the world, come on, she "remembered" 3 things (fully automatic, 27 caliber, and low recoil), WOW, that's hard to do...LOL
This scene gives a lot of insight into the character of Snoop. Although a contracted murderer, she still appreciated the time the sales man took to explain the nail gun. She even gave him a tip! It's just the little things that make you appreciate the brilliance of the Wire.
Ye, just started watching this shit lately. All the characters are heavily developed as fuck and thought out. What breaks them, what they react to (even Snoop got caught off guard during that one scene we shall not spoil which shows she got her limits too). Each of the main characters got their own agenda, their way of handling things, principles they follow and whatnot. The people working the police department and McNulty shows that a lot. I haven't seen season 5 yet, but so far Snoop may be my favorite character.
Qunniefication I've seen the series through to the end now. And I got to say, the only character in the show I could understand on a personal level and really follow no matter what he did was Bubbles. Dude just tried to get by, you know? I loved several other characters as well, but I think Bubs got a special place in everyone's heart that watches this shit. Brilliant show, I can barely wait to re-watch it sometime in a couple months or so. Got to have missed out on some of the finer details the first time around. But damn, The Wire is extremely thought out, had no boring seasons or obvious filler-episodes. Just eps/seasons that personally was better than others, but none were bad/boring/filler and that's hard to achieve. 10/10 - going to watch again. Loved the show. Beside of Snoop and the tip, what are some other little things in the show that you noticed and just loved?
T3n50r So true, definitely have to love Bubbles. He was a good guy, so I was glad he cleaned up & got right in the end. My fave was Michael though. The kid was forced into the game...crackhead mom& abusive step dad, too bad he turns into the future Omar though. The best part of the series to me though is the parallel between characters. Dukie=Bubs, Michael=Omar, Naymond=Clay Davis, Randy=Bodie.
Beth Zierer-Philipsen this was my favorite season. I think that season 3 had the best writing but season 4 had the most heart. I would rank the the seasons 4,3,1,2,5.
How is that funny it was just only one time. And Baltimore just like Newark is very highly unemployed. My friend you don’t live in our world, cause if you did you’d wish you had left. You should be grateful your cities not in poverty.
4:25 - 4:35 It's no coincidence that we got a montage of circular imagery. This season is about the next generation coming into the world, the cycle beginning anew with each of them as they become poised to replace the older generation. And the wheel keeps on turning.
I was JUST noticing this as I rewatched this intro on repeat. I said “wait a minute, they’re trying to tell us something with all this circles” then came to the comments to see if anyone noticed. Lol
What always got to me was all the imagery depicting things like the spinning rim, the merry-go-round, the kid playing with the tire, all of it a metaphor for the cyclical nature of The Game, and how the next generation would fill in the spots left vacant by the previous one. Season 4 set that up, and Season 5 saw it carried out.
What I like even more about that is after the last rolling tire, it switches to another tire in the boot of the car, being filled up by packages. It's so good
Agreed. I personally saw it as a mutual respect. He took his time to explain his thought process and experience behind the different products she was looking at. She was doing the same thing for him, just in her "real" line of work.
It's supposed to establish Marlo & crew as the new players. Snoop says they had five jobs (murders) last month, and of course, there's a whole lot of typical Simon-style irony at play. The guy talks in firearm jargon ("caliber," "fully automatic," etc.) and then recoils in shock when Snoop talks about the damage they actually do ("..break the bone"). Overall, it's just a darkly funny scene between a citizen and a soldier. No plot points beyond showing that Marlo's been busy.
The way they stepped into each others world for a brief moment and totally understood each other , the sales man realised her profession when she spoke in detail, may be he didn't realise his knowledge of power tools made him the perfect fire arms dealer .. great scene, perfectly written.
I didn't have HBO until season 4 and then my first exposure to the Wire was watching this opening. Was completely hooked. Watched every episode on Sunday nights, caught seasons 1-3 and 4 again on Netflix before season 5 started. More truth/power/humor/pain than anything ever aired.
What a great scene, she explains the issue and the salesman listens and gives her the best solution!! Even though she's a cold blooded killer they have a great connection and she listens to him, lol!!
My favourite season opener and one of my all time favourite scenes . Not just because I’ve used lots of hilti drills at work and know they’re the best, but because Snoop and the Salesman sell this shit like no other, the cut to the credits it’s perfect. Well done!
Man that bang of the nail gun in time with the music, and the hand running over the nail, knowing - as a viewer - what it means just gives me goosebumps 👌
No one mentioned the brilliance of the salesman. If you notice, all the customers are staring at Snoop when she walks in with her nail gun slung over her shoulder, but the salesman walks right up and “talks shop” with her. Fantastic interaction on his behalf. Superbly done.
Notice how he didnt ask any questions on what he heard. He stayed in his lane, gave items details, and made a sale. This show was and still is awesome.
The quality and attention to detail employed to create "The Wire" and the trade craft of the actors/production staff blew me away. I still identify the actors involved till this day by their characters names when I see them. ✌️
That's the magic of David Simon's writing, isn't it? Throughout the constant and unrelenting bleakness of his themes, he's constantly laughing at the sheer absurdity of it all.
Well, she was also an actress, because she took acting lessons and did a professional performance as an actor. The fact that her life mirrored many parts of the role does not diminish her as an actress OR a gangsta. Those things work together.
So since Snoop got sold on the powder actuated nailgun, Lester was able to realize that they were using the vacants as tombs from the different nail type
One of the themes of the Wire is that there is a hard law of the streets, that is perhaps not the law you or I would choose to live by, but that is also not pure barbarism either. Part of the law of the streets shown here is, if you give respect, you get respect
ofenomeno84 can’t be done. Any one from the streets no the streets is done. Everybody traps off they phone maybe not kingpins but cats in the street sale through they phone now It’s no more drug organizations that died with bmf. Go watch some cartel shit they got it now
@tjbayliss Snoop has to be one of my favourite characters on the show. I don't see how you can say that her voice is forced, knowing full well that this is how she speaks in real life! It's not your typical female voice, but it's her voice, it's just different. I agree with jumba202, step outside your comfort zone (even though I don't know if it's a white suburb), things that are/look/sound unusual to you are not necessarily "wrong"; they're just different.
THE WIRE TAKES ME TO A TIME WHEN I WAS A LITTLE ONE GROWING UP IN TEXAS,I REMEMBER GUYS STANDING ON THE CORNER, ASKING PEOPLE IF THEY WANT TO BUY DRUGS,THAT'S WAS THE JUST SAY NO DAYS,TIMES ARE REALLY CHANGING,JOBS TO.
completely agree jpom season 4 is the most perfect television you could ever see ahhh. I watched it too recently to re-watch it for a 3rd time, but i might start watching it again. Fuck it its worth watching again
@tjbayliss shes the same in real life. She fuckin killed somebody when she was 14 or something. Not only is she not annoying, she is one of the best female villains of all time.

What I love about this scene is the fact that...Snoop remembers all the information. She listens and remembers
and murders countless people. Give her a cookie.
Epitome of a woman.
I liked that also
she been schooled, dawg

my fave was, Bunny. Good man.
Season 4 is by far the darkest of all the seasons of the wire. I remember watching this season always on edge . Brilliantly written!
I think s2 is darker tbh, there is no relief in s2. At least Namond gets out of s4 and Prez has the opportunity to help more kids.
The best season of the best show ever......
Beth Zierer-Philipsen game of thrones is too good idk about best ever
Beth Zierer-Philipsen this was my favorite season. I think that season 3 had the best writing but season 4 had the most heart. I would rank the the seasons 4,3,1,2,5.
ELLIOT1311 GoT is good. The Wire is great
Benjamin Cox 4, 1, 2, 3, 5 for the theme songs
@@ELLIOT1311 stfu GOT is garbage that shit is all social media hype this was all word of mouth hype cus of how good it was that show sucks

It’s basically impossible to not give your next hour to this show after watching this intro
True-Talk on any of the intros and episodes of all 5 seasons fir that matter. ✌️
This show is so well made it hurts
Literally agonizing pleasure
4:25 - 4:35
It's no coincidence that we got a montage of circular imagery. This season is about the next generation coming into the world, the cycle beginning anew with each of them as they become poised to replace the older generation. And the wheel keeps on turning.
The introsong (shoutout tom waits) at that point compliments what you are saying, right then it says "keep 'em in the hole, down in the hole".
I was JUST noticing this as I rewatched this intro on repeat. I said “wait a minute, they’re trying to tell us something with all this circles” then came to the comments to see if anyone noticed. Lol
this season was one the most heartbreaking, amazing and gritty things to ever be on television.
what a show..
"They're not learning for our world, they're learning for theirs"
Hundo!
What always got to me was all the imagery depicting things like the spinning rim, the merry-go-round, the kid playing with the tire, all of it a metaphor for the cyclical nature of The Game, and how the next generation would fill in the spots left vacant by the previous one. Wow! Great insightful comment!
Yes, the season 4 intro is genius. The intros from every season of the show are good, but season 4 with the endless cycle theme is by far the best.
What I like even more about that is after the last rolling tire, it switches to another tire in the boot of the car, being filled up by packages. It's so good
This is some of the best writing on tv ever. The Wire was outrageously good.
season 4....definitely my favorite version of the song, maybe my favorite season
One of my favorite scenes... Great acting and recognizing great salesmanship!
@1:52 The look on his face is uber PRICELESS. A civil cross-fire between broken english and WTF just happened?? Did I open up a can of worms 😂🤣😭

Season 4 always gave me childhood flashbacks. It wasn’t this rough but some nostalgic moments were had watching this.
this season, season 2 of the sopranos, and breaking bad season 5 are perfect television
Stringer Bell, whatever happened there
Gunpowder activated, twenty seven caliber, full auto no kickback nail throwing mayhem! That shit is tight! Now I have to have one.
That is how Hilti should describe it on its website.

I love how Snoop still respects the working man doing his job, and doing it well. She's in the game, but she appreciates people who aren't
I thought that snoop was a dude when I first watched this show.
I only finally just caught all of this series over a few months last year. I would suspect yours is not necessarily an uncommon reaction.

One of the best openings ever for a season. I laugh until I got tears everytime I watch that.

Having the opening with the theme, nice work!
The meaner you are, the more your kindness is valued. People acting like Snoop is suddenly a good person just for having a half normal conversation.
The writing on this show is just perfect.
How many actors and actresses get to play themselves? Reminds me of Tony Sirico playing Paulie walnuts.
"Maaa, fut the charge!" Snoop's got that great drawl.
I remember taking a pic wit Chris and Marlo when they came to Comcast In Oakbrook IL. Their show was about to end! I was so blue.
