    Not really the video we wanted to share, but we have to be honest & true to the journey. We haven’t completely given up on the idea of being out here, we’re just sharing truthfully what’s currently going on. We have a lot to navigate and think about but we wanted to be honest & transparent about where we’re at.
    Thanks for all love and support, we’ll share more next week

      It is what it is.
      next time, do not buy anything that requires being 90 days in 90 days out, buy something that you can live there 4 ever without any complications.
      Because this is just big waste of time and resources.
      Permanent residence is what you want, before you do anything else, just my thought here.

      You guys have tried to make your dream come true. You have explained your situation to us that have been following you from the beginning. You owe it to yourselves to look at other alternatives. You are still young you need to get your life’s back on track. Move on. Keep us informed and if you do go for Ireland or wherever , tell us and we will follow you as you both are great guys. We love you, do what you feel what’s in your heart.x

    Hey, it's sad to hear you both upset, but here's the thing, you simply have to look at things pragmatically, not always easy i know. Look at your journey so far, look at what you've learned, look at the experiences you've had, especially the experiences you've shared together which have brought you closer and more appreciative of your surroundings, and of each other. If everything in life was "meant to be" then life would be pretty boring, there would be absolutely no place for hopes, dreams and aspirations. The consequences of European politics is not your fault and it's certainly not a qualification of what should or shouldn't of been. YOU two are masters of your own destiny, stay focused, keep in the game, you're bigger and stronger than you've ever been. More importantly, keep your tolerance and love for each other. 🤘👍

      @@theoriginhomestead Enjoy the journey, because the time when you're in your rocking chairs looking back, comes faster than you think. This time last year my daughter was in university studying social anthropology, fast forward to this year and she's a drug addict in a women's refuge, there's absolutely no way I'll accept that "it was meant to be." Life has curveballs, most of them are unexpected at inopportune times. 🤘👍

      There comes a point where continuing ‘the fight’ must be reevaluated. I think you need to be objective rather than emotional in your review of your future in Portugal. You’ve learned so much and gained so many new skills. The greatest learning may be your resolve to respond to challenges. I wish you the best.

      Love your channel, we like you bought property, we opted for Bulgeria, we where wrongly advised about residency, however my father was Irish so I applied for an Irish passport, do either of you have an Irish parent or grand parent, or any parent or grandparents that where born in a European country? If so you can obtain a passport for that country and residency is easy, you will both qualify even if only one of you has that. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Best of luck to you both with your Portugal paperwork or with whatever the next stage is for you. Laura and Dan, I am so sorry you are in this situation. I follow other people from the UK who are living in Portugal. They were able to move to Portugal before the shutters came down following Brexit. You moved as the shutters were coming down. The population in the UK have voted to become prisoners in their own land. I can understand people who do not want to follow politics but your situation proves that we ignore politics at our peril. The UK have become a resentful and angry little island. I suppose we cannot live by "we want" we now live by what we are allowed to do. The rich and well-off can always live by "we want". They can live where ever they want.
    If you are thinking about Ireland please pay attention to the history and politics. Start by watching the BBC documentary "Once upon a time in Northern Ireland".
    I hope you continue to grow and love.

    I'm sorry you're going through this, it's really tough. I've moved to 3 different countries with different rules and situations and it's never easy, always slow and sometimes just unfair. Living in a similar setup as you, the most frustrating part is to see that all these rules for immigration, taxes, self-employment, etc. don't take into account simpler ways of living (which tend to be the best ones for the planet, but that's another topic). If making say 500 euro a month is enough for you, the system makes that impossible (because they want you to spend more and depend on them more). It's just a shitty system we've built.

    • @ravenseft
      @ravenseft 9 месяцев назад +6

      There were no income requirements pre-Brexit. You had to have health insurance and complete the residency paperwork, plus limitations on benefits, but so long as you could support yourself, there generally wasn't a problem.

    • @jhbette
      @jhbette 9 месяцев назад +4

      @@KeithChegwin24 the requirement if you're unemployed (no income) is that you'd be there looking for a job. This is still true today. I have plenty of EU mates living off the land with no income in other EU countries for years now. They can't legally stop you and question how you're planning to sustain yourself. As long as you dont need to register for social security/benefits and just pay local tax they won't bother you, and even if they ask you, say you're looking for a job! Some countries may have stricter local tax residency policies but really most don't for EU citizens (a very different story for non-EU).

The people are lovely and there’s no paperwork to fill in, and everyone speaks English and are very friendly. Have you tried to contact other UK people that are in Portugal doing what you are doing, an off grid homestead? There are even a family with small kids... living for some time here. Laws are always chaging, so maybe you can still have a breakthrough. However, you have experienced living off grid, so that's good and will put you both thinking "is this the kind of life we really want? Either here or anywhere else?" Because if you are really determined to live like this, you will find either the same or other difficulties in other countries... Nevertheless, please bear in mind, things happen for a reason, maybe it was simply not the time yet. I wish you both all happiness and good luck on your young journey ❤😘

    I still can't believe us Brits decided to leave the EU (I'd moved to Australia before the referendum). The ability to go and live anywhere in Europe was priceless, worth whatever the cost. So sad. So shit that they changed the visa requirements. Are you guys under 30? Maybe get the aussie working visa and go work over there for a year (up to 3) - wages are crazy high down under...

    • @defdaz
      @defdaz 9 месяцев назад

      Still listening to you guys but the more I listen the more I think Australia is a genuine option for you (having done it myself!). The under 30 working visa is very cheap and easy to get and is extendable to up to 3 years. And then, if you like it then you could apply for a skills-based visa (the skills shortage list is long, and if you aren't a match for them one of you could retrain) and since you're young you'd get lots of points (I was 38 when we applied for our permanent visa). And the benefits are the weather, the wages, the lifestyle, the houses - and there's lots of cheap bush land still. Worth a think!!

    Now for my story.... I first met my wife some 53 yrs ago n we are celebrating our 50 yrs wedding this month... we had 4 children. Looking back we lived in a house with no central heating just a coal fire, non of the technology you have to day, there were times when we spent a week just eating egg n chips or mash n eggs, cos that's all we could afford at the time, but we got through it with the kids too. If we had a £1 for every row or argument we have had we would be millionaires. There has been many times we have thought of throwing in the towel. My wife was the strong one who held it all together. we all have to take the rough with the smooth, n come thro the up's and downs, If you grit your teeth n see it through you'll have some great memories to reminis on 50 yrs from now LOL..I could write a lot more which I won't bore you with. Please don't give in you would regret it later on.... Del UK

    I think you have to check on the finances you need to move to Ireland.

    By the way the issue is not Portugal it is the UK and the brilliant idea of Brexiting, a new referendum would solve all these problems.

    You two are so freaking adorable, Dan reminds me of pictures of my dad as a young man ☺️. I know things will work out they way they should, maybe 🤔 in Portugal may be somewhere new, but your hard work, ingenuity, and love for each other will see you through. Thanks for sharing your ups and downs with us!

    Looking forward to the update. Hopefully you can make something work in Portugal 😌.
    Maybe you can see if you’ve any Irish ancestry and get citizenship there so you then become an EU resident so can live anywhere within its border.

    Would one of you be able to get Irish citizenship from parents or grandparents that moved over to the UK? Ireland isn`t truely a member of the Schengen Area but they still have a free movement and work rights in Europe, and don`t have the 90 day rule, but you would need to look into it. Like you say Southern Ireland as an agreement with the UK for free movement, so you would be grand there. I moved over to Ireland nearly 20 years back, and love it, wouldn`t go back to the UK now. Good luck with whatever you do.
