As another incomer to West Wales I wish you well with your efforts. We moved to Pembrokeshire 36 years ago, raised our children here, they raised their children here and they are now raising their children here. It's a fantastic place to live. We had a couple of the driving up prices comments but like you we bought an old farmhouse that had holes in the roof and had been on the market for sometime, so either the locals had more sense or wanted new houses. I have the feeling you may be in the county just north of me. Have fun.
Your video just came up and so I thought I’d give it a look. I have so say your new property looks really amazing and very exciting. The Farmhouse itself looks to have many original features and even a Welsh dresser. Have subscribed.
As Welsh expats living in Australia it’s great to see people moving to our homeland. We come home every year to visit family, from South Wales. We usually airbnb somewhere for a month then go visit family for a few weeks then home to OZ.We have already booked a cottage for next year in West Wales a place called Molleston,so I hope we enjoy it as much as you. Will be keeping an eye on your progress.
Very very cool. Subscribed and looking forward to developments!... I would love to know how much the smallholding cost and how much land you have as I'm looking to do something similar. Happy to email if that is better!

I wish you were closer because then I'd lend a hand, with only fresh cups of tea needed, them I'd demand! But I'm up in Scotland near a town called Ayr, which roughly is about 300 miles from you there! My fencing advice which you both need the most, I used pallet wood broken down they gave posts! I'm retired so I've got all the time to help you two, there's not a job, except plumbing, that I'm not able to do! It's a mammoth task up ahead with money being tight, post weekly on RUclips and they may help see you alright! 🙏 I.Shane.G. 😊 Yup, I'm looking forwards to seeing your next video already! Before you know it, you'll have an album of video's ..about how you brought your Welsh farm, back to life!
Welcome to West Wales. I wouldn't worry too much about a brushcutter - get a tractor & topper in (or an excavator-mounted flail), then graze it to keep it down. The rushes will need weed-wiping. Maybe forget the hydro - you can't do anything to a watercourse in Wales without a works permit from National Resources Wales. If there are any bats in those outbuildings, you won't be able to do anything with them. Any Japanese Knotweed?
What a project you have in front of you. We moved to West Wales 25 years ago having grown up in London and living in Europe, wouldn't want to live anywhere else tbh. Looking forward to seeing how you get on, isn't there a grant you could get if your property has been empty for a couple of years?
Just subscribed you have a lot of potential in the property you have bought obviously money has to spent on renovation of the house some of the barns could be used for holiday lets and with the land a small market garden farm could produce a possible living once all fences are secure from the marauding cattle it looks a very open smallholding with plenty of light for growing you picked well i wish you luck and welcome to Wales
I know your starting back from 2023 but if you haven't already done so take advantage of the gov FREE energy saving scheme. I've lived in/owned my old rural stone cottage for 30 plus years with only a coal fire in one room to keep me warm. Recently [as part of the scheme] I've had the whole cottage fully insulated which included all the interior walls being plastered/new skiting double glazed windows etc- replumbed/rewired for new new radiators and air exchange heat pump system and solar panels fitted. I can't believe the difference, especially in my bills. Other than painting and decorating it's cost me nothing. I always thought I was going to have to move on to a less labour intensive life style in my old age but I'm here to stay now. There is also supposed to be another scheme which will replace my old septic tank/soak away system as part of a 'green cleaner efficiency' drive and I intend to go for that as well. I've been rodding my drains for years [not a job for the faint hearted] so if it happens it will be welcome.
Absolutely adore that house, the farm is amazing. Take your time, enjoy your journey and get used to a lot of factor x. Great video composition, appropriate background music and overall explanation of it all. Maybe the farmer can pay you for pasture for the next while. :)
This shows what London houses, or should I say flat, prices can buy. Those moving from the city to rural areas has a knock-on effect of elevating local prices in Wales resulting in many locals not being able to be able to property where they grew up as well as a dilution of culture. I'm not saying this has happened here but it is a negative effect of such migration.
I do hear you but we bought a house that had sat on the market for literally years, so either we bought it or it fell into ruin. The council area we are in are really good at doing schemes that put locals first for buying certain houses. We definitely don’t want to take anything away from the community but I do feel in this case it was slightly different as you say. A lot of Welsh people do move elsewhere too so I guess it’s all relative?
yep we know but unfortunately when you are renovating you can’t go back and re-record the footage you didn’t capture first time as everything has already changed!

Sadly the holiday-let market is pretty saturated I Here in West Wales, but there are always ways to make money from land and outbuildings. I have found that short/medium term let’s are in great demand (like lodgers, but in their own unit) as there is a huge shortage of accommodation for people.
