It will be interesting to see if Canada would approve an Alaska pipeline through Canada and how long the approvals take. I would be comparing it to how Trudeau attacked the Energy East pipeline, just to see if Trudeau is going to treat Trump better than Western Canada.
Be also on guard for their efforts to erode our claim to the Northwest Passage. You want to own an increasing share of the profits from the pipeline as it becomes more valuable. You want to become increasingly resilient to them closing the faucet on their terms.

Trump has invited both Mexico and Canada to re-evaluate their long standing positive economic, military, and social relationship with the US. This is something that was not being called into question previously. Perhaps Trump is right, and we need to begin to look elsewhere for our primary relationships with other states. I think that Germany, Poland, France, Spain, Portugal, England, Ireland, Wales, and Scotland etc.... are all entering a stage of flux. Perhaps this presents a more stabile and friendly future for Mexico and Canada. Sometimes life presents new directions that one did not contemplate before. If the US wishes to go it alone -militarily, economically, and socially- it should have the right to do so. We wish you all the best with an insular and protectionist future, on your own.

True. A lot of Republican states that are on the East Coast are gonna continue to get obliterated by hurricanes each year, and rebuilding won't be cheap.

Hopefully we can get the American to do something about guns and drugs being smuggled into Canada. I live in a border town in Ontario. We are catching smugglers regularly. Most illegal guns used in crime in Canada are from the states.
Canada needs to double down and fight back against a 25% US tariff with our own. Trump is so unhinged I would no be surprised if he does so Canada must be prepared. Pretty sure Trump can't stand Trudeau.I say noway to a pipeline from Alaska thru Canada.
The new Trans Pacific pipeline is now open so crude can go directly to the BC coast and onto tankers to anywhere as well as an additional new refinery in BC.
especially Canada has had to sell, its oil at a discount to the US, because we had no access to other markets. That has changed, Canada now has global customers for its oil at full market price
@@theartofwanderlust I don't think Canada is selling the US their tar sands oil. They ship it from Alberta through the Keystone pipeline to Cushing Oklahoma, then the oil is shipped through a US pipeline from Cushing to Houston to refineries. I think there are 3 refineries in Houston that process the tar sand oil. Canadian oil companies pay US refineries to refine it, then the fuel is shipped by tanker to Britain and other countries. We might buy some of the fuel, I'm not sure. The question is, will Canada continue shipping oil through the US to refineries in Houston? The media keeps saying we'll be paying the tariffs on the oil with higher gas prices, but this is not true. Oil prices are set by world demand and opec. Also, we're not buying this Canadian crude oil, they're just paying US refineries to refine it. The 25% on each barrel of oil will be paid by Canadian oil companies and there are 610,000 barrels of oil per day passing through that pipeline. 25% of 610k is 152,500 X 81 dollars a barrel = 12,352,500 dollars a day that will be paid to the US treasury by Canadian oil companies. Even if you have a pipeline to the West Coast, you'll still need to be able to refine it. If I was Canada I'd be building some refineries near the tar sands instead of piping it thousands of miles. You get 19 gallons of gas and 11 gallons of diesel from a 42 gallon barrel of oil. That's 12 gallons of crude oil per barrel that is being pipe lined that won't make fuel. Another problem with tar sand oil is the cost of refining it is more expensive than normal crude oil. Oil prices have to be at 60 dollars to just break even on refining it. If oil prices drop, the game is over.
The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 made the Great Depression worse by: Increasing import prices: The act made imports unaffordable for most people, except the wealthy. Decreasing exports: The act dramatically reduced the amount of exported goods. Contributing to bank failures: The act contributed to bank failures, especially in agricultural regions. Encouraging other countries to raise tariffs: The act encouraged every country that traded with the United States to raise tariffs as well. Reducing global trade: The act reduced global trade and slowed down the global economy. Highlighting the dangers of protectionist trade policies: The act highlighted how dangerous protectionist trade policies are for the world economy.

I really don’t know why people are so upset. Trump has no plan on putting tariffs in Canada or Mexico. Trump will cave in and said Canada complied and Mexico complied also which makes him feel good. He probably will want to renegotiate the trade agreement next year for more concessions. The tariffs would hurt America real bad also.
The French will never learn that socialism as an economic system eventually causes and economy to stagnate and the revenues fall and things get chaotic, Trudeau obviously loves socialism and has pretty much trashed his own economy and the working class is taking the brunt of it.
Socialism is when the country controls the units of production. Neither France nor Canada are socialist countries. Neither countries own industries and neither boss industry around to the extent that a socialist country does. Cuba and Venezuela are socialists states.
