  • This video is about the world's largest oil and gas production project, Sakhalin-2 (on Sakhalin Island, Russia). The total cost is about 25 billion dollars. The project includes the development of the Piltun-Astokhskoye oil field and the Lunskoye natural gas field on the shelf of Sakhalin Island in the Sea of Okhotsk, as well as the construction of onshore infrastructure.
    Sakhalin-2 project includes:
    - Piltun-Astokhskoye-A platform (the Molikpaq, the PA-A)
    - Lunskoye-A platform (the Lun-A)
    - Piltun-Astokhskoye-B platform (the PA-B)
    - Onshore processing facility
    - TransSakhalin pipelines
    - Oil export terminal
    - LNG plant
    - Plans for an additional platform (the PA-C)

Wonder how long this platform and shore facility will produce as designed since the partners have withdrawn from the project? Tough conditions to produce natural gas and spare parts / contractors to do overhauls will certainly be hard to obtain.

One thing the presentation fails to indicate is that all the oil production & processing plants were engineered & imported. The Molipaq is a second hand production platform from Alaska the additional oil export module being engineered & fabricated in Korea. The power generation, gas compression & water injection provided by Siemens, control & safety system provided by AB USA. Second platform much the same. RR turbines. The onshore facility much the same, RR gas turbines for process & power generation. Therefore other than construction Russian content appears to have been minimal. I worked on GT maintenance on the Molipaq which was contracted out OIM senior trades all supported by Shell & contractor reps. Infrastructure on shore including housing was even imported, so not a lot of Russian content.
