TaiLung's backstory still hits me differently years later. Shifu accidentally corrupted his adopted son by loving him too much. That is heart wrenching.
I don't think it was him loving him too much. As Tai Lung said, Shifu gave him so much hope of becoming the Dragon Warrior.
I mean, working your whole life to achieve something, only to be told you're not qualified, that's...that hits home for a LOT of people. I didn't realize how much that hit home until recently, as an adult.
What hurt TaiLung was being denied the one thing he had been working all his life for, thats why hes so mad at Po, he sees Po as someone who just showed up one day and instantly won the title he had been working so hard for. He wanted to make Shifu proud and that all his training wasnt gone to waste, he wanted recognition

I like that lord Shen was heavily ambitious which resulted in his own success but when it came to facing his own failure he never had a positive outlook of the situation and thus never learned because he was deeply insecure of how others may view him, being the root of his arrogance and vanity
Whereas Po had no motivation or aspirations but could practically endure any problem he faced due to his simplistic view of life. Po continues to learn from his mistakes despite being clumsy because he isn’t afraid of failure or what the world thinks of him
One is a success that never learns
Yet the other was a failure that continues to learn and grow
Immediate success is still better, as the failure that grows will rarely outscale it.

Tai Lung's escape sequence being one of the greatest action sequences...like ever, definitely puts him on another tier. The guy was basically a force of nature on his own, just making his way all the way to Po no matter who or what was in his way. But his story also had a lot of heart, so it wasn't just action for the sake of action. The fact he was so good made his story even more tragic.

Each villain in the KFP movies have connections to Po in some way.
Tai Lung is Shifu’s failed student and caused him to become a stricter mentor to the five and it was when meeting Po and reevaluates his training methods and is able to properly train Po to beat him.
Shen is a villain from Po’s past who committed genocide to prevent a prophecy and could not find inner peace which is something Po achieves when facing his trauma about his past.
Kai is a villain from Oogway’s past who seeks to take all the chi he can get and destroy Oogway’s memory during a time Po is thrust into the same role as Oogway and trains the last pandas to fight back and teaches them how to connect with chi once again.

Ty-Lung wasn’t trained with as much hatred as the rest were. He was the first, and was treated as the golden child. He was loved, and was brought up to be the best, which involved “training until his bones cracked”. Shifu’s mistake was not teaching him humility, or how to accept failure.
Yes thank you! Kung Fu Panda 2 is literal perfection with the perfect villain who is literally a sociopath, but no one seems to remember it.
shen didnt look intimidating but his character does, the way that he utilizes his power to gain the upper hand instead of doing all of the things himself is a perfect villain personality

I forgot where I heard this before but I recall Kung Fu Panda 2 was the hardest among the three movies to animate at the time. The level of detail placed into Gongmen City for those few seconds of shots during the chase scene were insane 🤯. Also the second movie was more personal to Po and had great impact in his character development. I also think the second movie was the best and I watched it on a tiny tablet when I was younger. Missed it in cinema 😔.
