Thank you for the information. I learnt a lot. Keep up the good work.
garlic hack: I cut off the top of the garlic head and bake in the microwave, approx 1 minute per garlic head (depending on how powerful your microwave oven is, mine is not v. powerful). The garlic becomes soft and sweet and it's much quicker than roasting in the oven. Once it's cooled down, it's really easy to remove the outer skin and add to salads, soups, anything really. A great timesaver
My sinuses are clear, no more mouth breathing, no more loose teeth, no bleeding gums, no sensitive teeth, no heartburn for 4 years, no calf cramps for 3 years, edema below the knees is gone and the soles of my feet were extremely painful when walking if I had rested for a while, I can also stay out in the sun longer without burning or peeling.
What was the key
@@POLOLIT- A carnivore style diet with no processed foods
Meats are all processed food unless you're raising or buying organic local
@@lukeweaver9287 I suppose technically you are correct, the process of killing, skinning and butchering could be called processing. I tend to think that unless the meat has been altered it is not processed. So all vegans who don't grow their own veggies are also eating processed foods?
I thought so...could only be done by being carnivore! No bloating or gas, gray hairs reversed, mental clarity, zen-like calmness, well-fed brain with good fat ... Great life!
Thanks to you, I am north of 50 years old and have a six pack again. And that by just changing what I put in my mouth! Amazing!
Thank you
Etienne
Thank you so much for the recap! FYI, you can find frozen alma (Indian gooseberry) in any Indian grocery store in the frozen section.
I cant believe this podcast isn’t must-listen for all medicine students
That’s because they treat you after getting sick they are not interested in keeping us well
[December 26th, 2022] It's 20 years today, that I decided to get my diet house in order. It took a little while for me to settle on the diet of intact grains, legumes, vegetables, fruits, fatty raw plants, and spices, but as soon as I did, all my health problems went away and STAYED away.
My favorite "fatty plant" atm is toasted blanched hazelnuts, just divine 😹 add to your list: seeds, berries, and leafy greens. I use the blender for fresh leafy greens and frozen, cut green (really, white) cabbage and cold water. Only way I get enough leafy greens in my daily diet.
Do you mean 2002?
@@shanDalicous He is referring to the date he wrote the post
@@shanDalicous i sure do!
@@peter5.056 good for you! Keep up the healthy living! I transitioned to whole foods plant-based eating in 2019 and I still absolutely love it!
Thank you Dr. Barnard. I hadn't heard anyone say before that vegan cheese is a transition food. It's True! I am used to not having cheese now, don't even think of buying those "cheeses" that I used in the beginning. Loved that observation.
I agree. I knew it would be my biggest challenge. Before I went vegan I researched best (healthiest, tastiest & most affordable) cheese replacements, to purchase and make. I used them more at first, and still enjoy them occasionally, but not nearly as much.
I make my own cheese with cashews, nutritional yeast, salt, and lactic acid. It's so damned good, I think it's FAR better than most dairy cheeses out there.
@@peter5.056 what is the recipe, please?
@@peter5.056 Those are awesome, it's also an idea i came across to replace the cashews with sunflowerseeds. Making it slightly healthier.
Chuck, thank you for all you have offered us in 1922!
1922?
No one seems to want to answer me on these topics, how can so many doctors be so different when it comes to food. Dr Ken Berry, Sten Eckberg along with many others swear by Keto and the Conivoire diet while Dr Neal Barnard and others swear by the Vegan diet. One and many doctors say that it's not the saturated fat that's the problem and that it's good for us while the others say that it is bad for us. They do agree that sugar and processed foods are bad. They all have scientific proof and stats to back up what they say. What is going on? This really confuses people, who should we believe? I would like to see all these doctors have a debate together...
I don't think either one is feasible, I still believe that it should be balanced between the 2 and eliminate all the junk food and eat whole foods...
Yes, thanks for posting! I couldn't have said it better myself! All these excellent doctors you've mentioned have some very opposing views. Yep: Who are we to believe? A debate would be great! Until then, what we have to work with are what they do agree on: stay with eating whole foods, and cut down on sugar and processed/junk food.
Chuck this was the most stunningly fantastic and complete overview of the past year. It included helpful information to those of us who've been long term vegans. Deep gratitude to you and Dr. B.! Best wishes and blessings to you all in '23!
41:00 lol you don’t WANT fresh Indian gooseberries!! They are VERY bitter 😬 get the amla powder which is the berries dried and ground. Put a tiny amount in smoothies etc. that’s all you need!!
Chuck & Neal thank you for this content that you all are sharing. I used to be a carnivore. Thanks to you and Dr. Will Bulsiewicz I learned about a Vegan diet in 2022 and have been eating Vegan since 14 July 2022. I've lost 30 kg. I look and feel 15 years younger and still get compliments. You guys rock. And I live in South Africa. We never even met.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Such an interesting discussion!! I became hard-core vegan in June 2021 after the shocking heart-disease death of my beloved brother. I was wearing wigs at the time due to progressive hair loss which I thought was related to medication I am taking. Now, 18 months later, I notice that my hair is looking much better. The bald spots all over my head are gone, and the parts are more normal. Yay! I'm still wearing wigs, but at least I have the option now to go without. Wonderful information!
Love mushrooms, meaty and very low calories, I sometimes sautee them in a can of chopped tomatoes then add oregano and/or basil for an Italian pizza flavour
Hi all i went vegan on 24 October 2022 my priority goals werr to do away with muscle and joint pain medium term being restoration of my compromised vision and long term being weght loss. I have noticed that the muscle pain has really decreased about 80 %. I wish to add another positive change into my health regime to reduce and finally eliminate sugar from my diet and start exercise. I hope this comment attracts your eye as I would like to hear my well done from the doctor
Life savers! We love you all. ❤
Great to see you Chuck! Thanks for all you do and raising our IQ's in 2022, as always.

💚 Chuck and Dr Barnard.
I’m vegan for the animals, so my health improvement is a pleasant consequence and the environment benefits greatly too! Watching from the UK 🇬🇧. Keep up the amazing work 👍🏼
Would you do a show on the BOOKS you have? I see one that says "YES" behind you, but can't find it on Amazon with only that info. I just bought FIBER FUELED. Looking forward to reading it! Thank you so much for all you do. LOVE the Exam Room- I've learned so much. PLEASE DO A SHOW ON THE BOOKS WE SHOULD ALL READ AND OWN! Thanks again.
Thank you, Chuck, that was awesome show!
This was fantastic! Thank you!
Another great show! Full of useful info.
Another excellent episode of the Exam Room Chuck Carroll 👌. Spices are among my favourite plant foods Tumeric with the black pepper is a regular in my diet. Cayenne pepper is another regular and red chilli pepper flakes and garlic. Raw garlic cloves I consume daily especially during this time of year which helps to shorten symptoms of cold or the flu.
That was a good one Chuck, I like having it put all together
You're my favorite!! Thank you!!

You rock bud always love your videos. I always have pizza without cheese and all the veggies. My kids all think I am crazy except my youngest daughter wants to be plant based. I put turmeric in everything after breakfast
In my Cocoa/Coffee drink I add nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and sometimes ginger
Lauren is so beautiful with georgious skin! You would never guess she had cancer!

Wonderful job! Thank you for your great movies! ☺️👃😽💚🌾🌿✔️
Thanks very much , Chuk
Very nice. Thanks for sharing. Turmeric when powdered can heal wounds too as it an antiseptic. I use it in my cooking everyday.
Thank you! Happy New Year guys. Can't wait to get started on ditching the dairy and eggs. Just on the finishing touches of being lacto-ovo vegetarian now.
great informative program, love the show
I just recently read that there is a correlation between Parkinson disease and low cholesterol!
Thank you very much for everything you do to provide information on health issues.
I appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos. Many thanks from Athens, Greece. Have a wonderful New Year!
Love this podcast I just wish I can convince my mom to go vegan, it would get rid of most of her sickness.
May browse through a few of Dr. Barnard books. When I have free time I would peruse the empty health stores or healthy living sections of markets.
When I go out with my social group they often go to Pizza restaurants. I order mine with no cheese, no oil and just sauce and mushrooms. Tastes great.
Love your vid as always! Really love being a vegan. Thank you both for caring for our animals and educating about veganism.
I am able to find frozen amla at my local Indian grocery store - my favorite fruit!
This was fabulous !!!
yes, raw garlic, I like it, but it can be hot when you're not used to it, just ease into it. Drink water and/or possibly some other food. Love berries and mushrooms. Thank you pisana.🙂
A pizza made with cauliflower crust and veggies on top is not bad at all.
Post menopausal hair loss treatment and thinning is what I’d like to know
I tried the spice blend in my coffee. SO good. And it really helped with my head cold.
*Chuck, waiting for PC to have a Q&A with Dr Brooke Goldner*
Great show, Chuck! Concentrated amounts of info and reinforcement for things I've already been doing, which is always a good feeling. I hope you and yours had a great Christmas and will be looking forward to a wonderful 2023.
With respect to Alzheimer’s, they didn’t mention turmeric. Nutrition Facts Organization website lists some studies where daily consumption of turmeric actually reversed cognitive decline. Also, in India (in general in the Indian subcontinent), Alzheimer’s is nearly absent. That seems to be related to their daily consumption of turmeric(which is one of the main components of curry spices).
Yeah i try to add turmeric to my rice (tsp and a pinch of pepper) in a boiling pot of rice. It makes the rice have an earthier taste and you get used to it after a while. Otherwise i cant stand turmeric, my grandma swears by it and she grows acres of it on her farm back in east asia. I get a giant pot of her turmeric grounded at her farm every year for christmas lol
But doesn't it also inhibit iron absorption...?
@@a_teez8913 it is turmeric dose dependent, so it is usually not recommended to take iron supplements with turmeric supplements. I don’t know how much iron absorption is reduced when turmeric is taken at a doses found in whole spices. Also iron absorption can be significantly increased when taken with vitamin C. I need to further research this to find how much effect this has when turmeric is consumed as a spice. I remember one study showing 20% to 90% reduction in iron absorption depending on turmeric dose, don’t remember if it was turmeric supplement or the spice. I guess we can make sure to consume turmeric separately from foods high in iron. For iron supplements, most of them are recommended not to take after meal or with other supplements.
On the other hand, in case of iron build up in the body, turmeric can be useful to reduce excess iron (turmeric supplements have shown to reduce iron build up by chelation, and it is considered best supplement to reduce iron build up. (Reduction in absorption of iron by turmeric is a different phenomenon than reduction in build up of iron by turmeric, in the former case, it just stops the absorption by binding with some peptides responsible for iron absorption, while in the latter case, it chelates already built up iron). By the way, excess iron is also not good, as it oxidizes which can cause diseases. Absorption of non-heme iron is regulated by the body, but heme iron absorption cannot be regulated and can cause buildup.
Plant based diet makes me hold water and look bloated in the face. I’m being honest here
@@kevinwilson3337 I think that you should listen some of the episodes of to Dr. Will B, one of the guests today who is an expert in the area of microbiome. Bloating May be related to dysbiosis of gut microbe. Meaning your gut may not have microbes to effectively process plant foods (fiber). In that case, you need to introduces plant based foods very slowly (go very slow over weeks) and build up your gut microbes (increase the variety of microbes). Avoiding plant foods removes symptoms such as bloating but it only increases dysbiosis further according to Dr. B. (One needs to go towards what is known as symbiosis). Suddenly going to full plant based when your gut is not ready is like doing heavy exercise without prior training. One needs to slowly build up to such an exercise. That is according to Dr. B’s prior answers to those who have gut symptoms upon consuming plant based foods. You can check out his previous interviews, or ask your own question when he is live next time (he is a monthly regular on Exam Room Live).
Wow no holiday Chuck we Still on holiday in New Zealand. But yes I love listen to You. My husband got Alopecia and start losing hair at the age of 4 and 65 years later, medical people didn't now. BUT if he use high doses of Cortisone to open the blood veins it grow again but years after it started his thyroid started not to work properly but until 2022 theirs no medication for alopecia and nobody know why it happen🤔🤔 My Family think I am crazy to use the cinnamon mix on my coffee and oats.
I eat a Plant Based diet. But, once in awhile I have some "cheese" for pizza or mexican food.
I personally choose all vegetables and fruits organic to avoid most pesticides
I stopped using most spices a while ago, I only use salt now. Mainly because I liked black pepper and found out the following:
Black pepper extracts affect the activity of some enzymes and transport proteins in the liver that are responsible for the absorption and effectiveness of some medications, which may lead to a higher level of drug concentration in the blood than the normal level and thus increase the risk of side effects or drug poisoning.
Medications ?
@@saralopez9514 I was taking some and saw doctors for a year but it was a diet change that fixed everything, no medications for me anymore :)
Love it - consider it their methadone! 😅 great example!
Scrolling and looking for summary..
I support all who make changes to their diet in pursuit of better health. Even though I don’t agree with the LDL and HDL are cholesterol, I do agree with taking your health seriously. Cholesterol is a waxy substance that is carried by LDL or HDL. The level of cholesterol in the body is tightly regulated by the body and is essential for life, without cholesterol you would be dead. My wish for the new year is for Dr Barnard and whoever state LDL and HDL is cholesterol correct themselves and state it for exactly what it is. A waxy substance that is made by the body. By no means is Doctor Attia tis not the only one that recognizes this fact, eating cholesterol rich food doesn’t raise the level of cholesterol in your body. Your body must convert what it wants to use through the liver; what is not used is excreted in your poop. Keep up the fight for good health but we should be 100% truthful when we state something is factual.
Saturated fat turns into cholesterol. Attia is wrong for saying what you eat doesn't turn into cholesterol. I challenge you to make a video where you eat only bacon, 3x a day for a whole month & get your cholesterol checked after.
You need the reality check. L.DL stands for low density lipoprotein. Cholesterol is defined in the dictionary as: a steroid alcohol C27H45OH that is present in animal cells and body fluids, regulates membrane fluidity
I eat 2 eggs a day I’m 50 and my doctor said I’m extremely under the bad cholesterol numbers and all my blood work was impressive so I feel it’s an individual thing
You may be an outlier or perhaps you exercise a lot to counteract the negative effects of the cholesterol you're ingesting. Consumption of cholesterol, however, is NOT GOOD for anyone. PERIOD!
I don't have time to listen so what are the 5 foods? Thanks
Black pepper and turmeric together with honey and plant based milk
You can find Indian gooseberry in Indian grocery store in the frozen section.
Turmeric ginger and cinnamon
I don't eat any meats, however, I do drink bone broth (Kettle & Fire) and I add hydrolyzed collagen to it. are those two okay to consume?
How to get EPA from plant based foods? Algae oil is mainly DHA and no EPA
We vegetarians have some hope.. The lady should also give tips about maintaining a healthy skin..
Bay leaf in soups!
For the coffee/tumeric/ginger/cinnamon combo, do you need black pepper?
Black pepper improves absorption of turmeric.
I am anemic, is it okay to used Turmeric?
What about mushroom coffee
Mushroom powder good?
Kinda a funny observation, no a generation ago french fries were the staple go to birthday food, atleast mine was (i'm 47 now). Transfat instead of saturated fat.
😢I love to listen to your program❤, but Please dear Dr. Can he go closer to the Speaker, because I can not hear him well at all. Please 😮😱🙏💙🕊

Stress (mental & physical) raises cholesterol. Sugar dissolves in water & is not the main cause of diabetes. Look at marathon runners, they put enormous amount of sugar in their drinks & they are not diabetic.
Many runners DO end up becoming diabetics & they attribute the acquisition to the large number of simple carbs they were encouraged to eat.
