    I can't tell you how appreciative i am that this video is not a short. Those things are such a let down and creators seem to love them because it's lots of views quickly and easily. I'd just go to tik tok if I wanted to watch shorts. I want to see real videos, thanks for uploading one this morning

      Thanks for sharing Michael, full length vids are hare to pump out when it's not your full time gig. :/ I wish i could dedicate serious time into higher quality edits/ more vids, but I struggle just to put out a vid every 3-4 weeks as it is. I work with minimal equipment and old out dated laptop/software so the process is a challenge to say the least. The shorts for me are a way to keep you guys in tune with some of what goes on, And the truth is that " views" from shorts and vids really are not too important to me, I create and share because I truly enjoy the process and I love hearing from you all and the feedback I recieve and if one person is inspired to start their own project from a vid I do, then it's 1000% worth it. I'm always hungry to improve and this keeps me on my toes and working my mind! Cheers and I know you'll dig the next couple vids! (theyre in the editing process!).

    I converted a 17ft sailboat into a fishing boat, similar but I left about 3 inches of the keel and glassed it in for steering stability.
    BUT, as a sailor (of bigger sailboats) I have always been told and read “sailboats are displacement hulls and cannot exceed the rated hull speed by much or they will roll”. I put a 3.5hp on my sail/fishing boat but saw you put a 35hp… it didn’t seem you had any stability issues at higher speeds and it didn’t roll) “your sailboat probably had a rated hull speed of about 8 to max 10mph).
    I will try a 9.9hp next..
    Thanks for your crazy low cost ideas for boating… what great fun

      Thanks Karl! Glad you like it, and right on! I’d highly recommend building a similar hull into a skiff. With some easy mods they are capable of quite a bit. This boat in particular is actually quite stable and has a really shallow draft. Runs well with small hp and that’s my favorite part. And you’re 100% right, super solid and well built 💪🏼 cheers buddy!

    You night have an Suggestion for me?

    • @alallington5732
      @alallington5732 Год назад

      I am experienced with sailing, sailboats and making both a fishing boat out of a 17ft sailboat (similar to the video) and turning a 26ft sailboat into kinda houseboat I lived on for a winter (Mobile Bay to Tampa) so…
      First, I like your idea of the “bit of keel”. I did that on the 17ft’er for steering stability.. the 26ft’er I cut the 1 in thick steel keel down to 1 ft and powered it with an 8hp I had… I wish I had used a 15hp.
      I HAVE BEEN TOLD AND WARNED I had to consider “rated hull speed” of the sailboat because sailboats are NOT plaining hulls but are displacement hulls which use water as friction to hold the boat’s stability… and will roll over at higher speeds. HOWEVER, this video reveals at least, a smaller sailboats with a bigger motor CAN operate safely well over “rated hull speed” which was probably 8-10mph max for that boat.
      Good luck.
