    Awesome video as always Julio. I'm sure that the center fuel tank where you did the inspection had been well ventilated and measured as always required, for it to be within the allowable limits for you and Michael to go inside. This video reminded me of when the fuel tanks had bladders and I had to go inside to lathe them into position with respiratory equipment. That was not a job for those who were claustrophobic!!! 😆😆😆

      You are correct Carlos, it was well ventilated and actually we had just got back from fishing 🎣 . This work is not for your average Joe. Sacrifice for Paradise.

      Almost nothing, a plane uses kerosine only for start and landing. On cruising speed it's a self running system without constant fuel burn because the engines are air-pressure turbines. Imagine a bird has liquid in his wings how unstable this would be for the entire structure and physics of flying. It's a fuel scam.

      @@Bahasa_Put your tin foil hat back on and step out of your mum’s basement. You guys are the laughing stock of the aviation world. For those people who have a life and would like to know a few facts about the 767 fuel system, there are 3 main tanks. Left wing, centre wing, Right wing. From memory (it’s been 20ish years since I did tank entry) the wings hold 18,100 kgs of fuel give or take depending on the fuel density of the day. That huge centre wing tank could hold 40,000kgs of fuel. You may notice the ‘holes’ between bays that the guys passed through had a heap of screw holes. Those holes are for the bolts that hold the panels in place as they are required for the structural integrity of the wing structure. I’m unaware of the particular NDT inspection that they are doing there, but if I would guess that a 767 somewhere in the world developed a fuel leak from that area on the lower skin and as a result, every 767 requires mandatory inspections in this particular area via an FAA airworthiness directive as a result of a Boeing service bulletin.
      I don’t miss the smell or the bruises of being a tank rat anymore. It was a young persons game.

    I worked for Airbus before moving to Australia, making the wings in Broughton north Wales, so I’ve been in much tighter wings than these, basically all the same, the wedge was the tightest and most difficult part to get to, it’s where the engine attaches on a A330 wing!

    Was cool to see but it could have been a lot better. Tell us what you are doing exactly. What was you measuring with the probe? Leaks, thickness, something else? Also would be cool to understand more about what we were seeing inside the fuel tank. For example I assume there are pumps to balance the fuel load between tanks, to measure how much fuel is left, and other things like that. Would be cool to learn about that as well while you are in there. Just some suggestions. Keep up the great work.

    In the 70's I worked on Canadair CL44's ex Flying Tigers. I can remember climbing into Centre fuel tank bay and then releasing bottom of wing tank bags and squeezing under bag so as not to disturb the lacing which held the bag to the roof of the tank bay, to get to the outer bag, which was always the one that was leaking. That was scary, no breathing apparatus. no real safety gear all we got was a milk allowance. You had to keep your cool and not panic. I have never done pot holing, but I imagine that would be the closest I have ever been to doing that. I can still smell the Avtur.

    The tank has been drained then force air vented and tested for fumes probably over a couple of days. Try doing the same thing in a "wet" tank (Empty but not vented so still residual fuel and full of fumes) so you have to wear a full coverage impervious suit and breathing apparatus along with safety lines and harnesses. makes it a hundred times harder but still vastly quicker which is what the airline is interested in, down time costs huge amounts of money. You need to be young slim and fit to do it. Certainly the last two.

    • @davedixon2068
      @davedixon2068 3 месяца назад

      @@hyacinthbucket3803 The tank shown had been forced air ventilated until there was no fuel or fuel vapour detectable, otherwise the guys would have needed full coverage suits and breathing apparatus.
      When fuel tanks are open there is a risk of fire but there are a whole raft of regulations governing when, where, and how, tanks can be left open. Jet fuel is also considerably harder to catch fire than car or piston aircraft fuel as its ignition temperature is higher.

I did that long enough until the ship went into major overhaul at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. That's where I also saw the 95,000 gallon tank with a big gash on it because it collided with a Russian submarine that was pressumed lost. The way cracks are detected on aircraft carrier storage tanks is with x-ray. I forgot to mention that the old Kitty Hawk was conventional non-nuclear powered and its fuel capacity is 3 million gallons. Sorry for the late Erik, reply glad to see you here ✈️ ⚙️ Wow that is cool, my son was in that tank as you saw as well. Great story and scary about pumping fuel in while in tank. after 3 days of draining, purging and venting the meter reads safe for entry . No smell no hazard ⚠️. Aviation engineering is mind blowing 🤯 we can nver even imagine the complexity that keeps everything running smooth.
