Apollo, in the books Sauron killed the elf king Gil Galad by grabbing Gil Galad's face with his hands, which burned his head to death. I assume that's what he wanted to do to Isildur in the film.
+atreides213 Yeah. This was also the reason the One Ring's scriptures were glowing by the time he tried to do that to Isildur. His hand was still hot from burning Gil Galad's face, and the heat was activating the Ring's carvings.
+atreides213 Sauron was, apparently, supposed to fight Gil Galad in the film (you catch a quick glimpse of Gil Galad in the prologue) and it was to end with Sauron grabbing him and Gil Galad bursting into flames at which point Elendil rushes to his aid. Real shame it was cut.
+atreides213 there is no evidence of it being it exactly that way. It is just said that Saurons hands heat burned Gil Galad to death. No grabbing or else, even if it could have been that way, but I don't think it was.
+Pixelated Apollo Dude the work you do is great. Love the varied content, dippped in and out of what've you done. Screw what the rest think. Your playing, uploading stuff that you love.
This is the film version of the last alliance, but the original book version was even better a last alliance of dwarves, men and elves. A dwarven army and 2 armies of men, 2 seperate human armies 1 from Arnor and 1 from Gondor, a united army of elves of Lindon, Lothorien and Rivendell and another seperate united army of silvan elves from Mirkwood and Woodland realm vs orcs, trolls, and wargs and easterlings of Rhun, the siege lasted for a total of seven years! Imagine if a movie was made about that or a series of old battles.
I'm actually a bit surprised. When we did that battle, it took more than 15 minutes to kill Sauron after his last orcs died. And i think he killed a lot more men and elves. I thought we would lose in the end because Sauron just didn't want to die...
+Sean Maguire yeah nice job [Son of Imladris] and thax for helping with the battle...I think the replay is slightly glitched but still a epic vid by Apollo ..in the actual battle we played I think the orc rush took damage to the allies to 22% or so ..with the defend of the slope to 66% and sauron himself to the damage count to 95% of the allies and 1530 kills but actually for viewing purposes this works out best :D
Actually in the books, Sauron's coming forth didn't really help his case. It was a last desperate effort, but he ultimately fell in battle with High King Elendil and High King Gil-Galad, though they died in the fight as well. After he was so wounded, Isildur cut the ring from his finger and that was that. But the main host of Mordor was already destroyed by the time of the last confrontation at Mount Doom, it was destroyed years prior in the Battle of Dagorlad. Remember, Barad-Dur was besieged for years after the Last Alliance occupied Mordor.
Nuvendil Yeah, the short scene in the movie showing the last alliance give us the impression that everything happened in the same day: elves and men arrived, slaughtered the evil forces and then on the same day Sauron lost his ring by isildur's sword, when actually this war took years to be finished. If i'm not mistaken, during the siege Sauron was throwing flame balls from his tower, and unfortunatelly one of these flame balls killed an elven liutenant. However its pretty sad that Peter Jackson did not give too much attention to such an amazing war.
***** Well Peter didn't have a ton of time, this was all backstory, so I'm not too fussed. And during the siege, Sauron was hurling rocks and flaming catapult shot yes, likely from siege engines in the fortress. One of those killed Anarion, brother of Isildur.
Jonathas Brito dude The Lord of the rings is about the war of the wring and the fellowship, Jackson couldn't dedicate loads of time to the war of the last Alliance, it'd get in the way of the main story.
To answer your question: why would Sauron reach out for Isildur, is that earlier he had snatched up Gil-Galad the king of the high elves and displayed the leader of the last alliance. When Gil-Galad was in Sauron's grasp he bust in flames and perished. It was a fear tactic to break the last alliance.
You, indypride, and Oakley have become my go to total war guys. Oakley for massive battles and news, indypride for misc and smaller battles, and you for this dope ass third age tw content. Love ya

i went through the comments all of them as of the posting of this comment to assure all that there were dwarves in the last alliance battle around 20,000 or 25,000 or something like that please let this comment be liked up to the top so that all can know that they were there *LET NOT THEIR STRUGGLE BE FORGOTTEN*
I first met Sauron in a battle of the last Alliance like this and when I saw him tearing up those men I was scared when I was a kid but then the king of men in the last Alliance struck down Sauron cutting off his finger.
I hate to be THAT guy but the inner nerd in me is crying out: In the movie version, Isildur (Prince of Gondor and Arnor, not king yet) killed Sauron with the shards of Narsil (later to be reforged into Anduril) In the book version, Gil-Galad, High King of the Noldor and Elendil, High King of Gondor and Arnor, fought and stuck down Sauron (both dying in the process) and Isildur just cut the ring from his hand with Narsil. But yeah, that scene was scary as a little kid, now I just love it lol (Gosh I hate being that guy, sorry lol)
Hey @Pixelated Apollo I wanted to answer a question you asked in the video as I'm a LOTR nerd myself. One of the reasons why Sauron reached down towards Isildur is because that's how he killed Gil-Galad, the Elven King. He basically used his magic to smash holes through the enemy ranks until he came face to face with him, smashed his chest and when Gil-Galad was basically in capacitated, Sauron reached down, picked him up, and incinerated him with dark magic. He thought Isildur was in similar condition and Elendil didn't need to be killed in that manner because when Elenedil went to try and avenge his friend Sauron merely used his mace and batted him away.
"Hopefully it will be dropped in mount doom, we'll see.." Yeah.. Also thi battle went down pretty much exactly like the movie. Awesome. Shold have been like two more Orc stacks though to give them a realistic chance.
Alexander Ringer Well yeah. We intended to get the orc horde effect and when we did, we couldn't have op orcs charging at smaller elven/human force. Plus, extra armies means more people needed and constant crashes was also a thing so we just shortened the player numbers which shortened the armies and numbers.
+historygeneral L.c gaming i think the they should have just had some slightly better units cuz in the end the alliance armies still had about a third of there armies each
Ibraaheem Laceman well paladin said smaller elite force makes for more a cinematic fight, alliance would crush enemy if the allance force got too large, then we hve to increase orc numbers since they r only tier 1 troops and then we would hve more crashes...etc, u can see how it would end.
Did anyone else notice that one elf warrior that got knocked down but did not die? He was just like I'm alive? I'M ALIVE HELL YEAH! Lol (It occurs at 24:53)
*Sigh*. No, PA. That's not how it happened. After the fall of Eregion, Elendil, King of Gondor and Arnor, and Gil-galad, King of the Noldor, with Elrond as his standard-bearer, gathered an army mostly of Men and Elves, but also including Dwarves and possibly Hobbits. This last and greatest host marched on Mordor, and a great battle was fought on the plain of *Dagorlad*, before the pass into the Vale of Udun that would become the Morannon. The Last Alliance won at a great cost (the Dead Marshes were filled with the Mannish and Elvish dead). Sauron fell back on Dol Guldur, which was besieged for seven years, again at great cost, including Elendil's son Anarion. Finally, Sauron came out and dueled Gil-galad and Elendil. Gil-galad and Elendil died, and Elendil's sword Narsil was broken, but the Ring was cast from Sauron's finger and he was subjugated. Isildur took the Ring like an idiot, and the story recommences with the Hobbit. Sorry for my massive Tolkien nerdery. Sometimes I just can't contain it.
Mostly right, but a few nitpicks: -The fall of Eregion occurred around 1700 years before the the formation of the Last Alliance. -Barad-dûr, not Dol Guldur. -Elendil and Gil-galad killed Sauron, Isildur just cut off the Ring. -Isildur did not know what power the Ring had held. Nobody did. Not even Elrond. He took it as a weregild for the deaths of his father and brother. I doubt anyone knew the Ring existed before Sauron came forth from the Dark Tower.
Sorry about Dol Guldur/Barad-Dur, stupid typo, but Sauron was not killed. He was simply "cast down". Then Isildur took the Ring *even though* Gandalf and Elrond told him to throw it into Orodruin.
Bailey McCarthy 'Killed' as in his body was destroyed. And 'Gandalf' (I think you mean Cirdan) and Elrond did tell him to destroy the Ring, but at that time they didn't know what the consequences of the Ring surviving. It wasn't a dramatic scene like in the movies, and even if they did try to destroy it, they would have been fucked, because the moment you are about to throw the Ring in, it overcomes you. No one, not even Frodo, could stop it.
It was Gandalf. I'm not entirely sure as to the location of Cirdan at the time. He may have marched with the army, but he also may well have stayed in Mithlond. And I know that it wasn't a dramatic scene like in the movies, but we are told about Isildur's choice to take the Ring and not destroy it in the *book* of Return of the King. However, your point about the power of the Ring is certainly valid and I hadn't considered that until now.
+Alexander Ringer that is why there is only 6 units ..2 are the basic dwarf unit , 2 are axemen and they cant do shieldwall formation :D but mainly as this battle is the elfves and mens moment in the field :D
Come on Apollo... I thought Medieval 2 siege battles were the heart of your channel... It has been 2 WEEKS!! 2 weeks since your last vanilla/expansions medieval 2 siege... Don't take this badly, but like me, there are thousands of other subscribers that are starting to get tired of the spam of Third Age battles... Plz take this in consideration...
+lostin nepal I'll never understand this hole whining about no Medieval 2. I mean seriously, Third Age is basically Medieval 2 (after all it's a mod for it) The only difference between Third Age and Medieval is: Third Age is far more interresting and far more fun to watch.
Gil-galad was an Elven-king. Of him the harpers sadly sing; the last whose realm was fair and free between the Mountains and the Sea. His sword was long, his lance was keen. His shining helm afar was seen; the countless stars of heaven's field were mirrored in his silver shield. But long ago he rode away, and where he dwelleth none can say; for into darkness fell his star in Mordor where the shadows are.
the epicness of the intro with that excellent score of music blows me away....if u don't like the first 2min of this vid :D then I think u haven't seen the movie :D ..Apollo has the eye [and the ear] for creating the intros to these vids :D ....excuse..me I just have to watch this intro again :D thax to historygeneral who helped to create this scenario and the players who both playtested it[too numerous to mention] and those who played thru the lagfest that was this epic battle :P
I expected Sauron to be nothing more than a buffed up, re-skinned axeman or something. So seeing him charging through entire units and sending groups of soldiers flying with each attack was AWESOME!
32:22 Hey Apollo, I know I'm close to 3 years late, in commenting, but the reason why Sauron was reaching for Isildur, I think, is a reference to how Sauron killed Gil-Galad, High King of the Noldor elves. Sauron had grabbed Gil-Galad, and the heat from his body inflicted such serious burns that Gil-Galad died shortly after the battle. It seems like Sauron, having already killed Elendil, wanted to further demoralize the Numenoreans by turning their prince into an overcooked kabob.
this was just as good as the movies! even better with the dwarves! would love to see what if scenario where isildur takes the ring, and leads arnor/gondor against elves and dwarves
if only someone remade this game the exact same just a better engine to handle thousands more of soldiers. That would be the best thing ever
***** same here
+jack lewis Would love to see battles with like 200.000 soldiers lol
+DominusOfficial XD i'd love to see your computer handle 200.000 soldiers.
Well they are remaking it! It's called Rise of Mordor it looks amazing!!
+Mathew Rodela he meant to remake this game, Medieval II total war -.-
Apollo, in the books Sauron killed the elf king Gil Galad by grabbing Gil Galad's face with his hands, which burned his head to death. I assume that's what he wanted to do to Isildur in the film.
Damn thats a horrible way to die
+atreides213 Yeah. This was also the reason the One Ring's scriptures were glowing by the time he tried to do that to Isildur. His hand was still hot from burning Gil Galad's face, and the heat was activating the Ring's carvings.
+atreides213 Sauron was, apparently, supposed to fight Gil Galad in the film (you catch a quick glimpse of Gil Galad in the prologue) and it was to end with Sauron grabbing him and Gil Galad bursting into flames at which point Elendil rushes to his aid. Real shame it was cut.
+WildRaven8472 They also cut Anarion completely and Tharundils Oprher father and Admir of Lothlrein who died in the marshes.
+atreides213 there is no evidence of it being it exactly that way. It is just said that Saurons hands heat burned Gil Galad to death. No grabbing or else, even if it could have been that way, but I don't think it was.

Hey @Pixelated Apollo I wanted to answer a question you asked in the video as I'm a LOTR nerd myself. Mostly right, but a few nitpicks:
-The fall of Eregion occurred around 1700 years before the the formation of the Last Alliance.
-Barad-dûr, not Dol Guldur.
-Elendil and Gil-galad killed Sauron, Isildur just cut off the Ring.

Hey pixelated apollo great vids been watching you since I was like 8 years old. Keep doing the great work!
MR. Moustache how old now.
Actually yes I'm bored of seeing the same units again n again
Perhaps new mod apollo?
Or maybe more the Attila one
+Ali Ikhwan the Medieval 1212 one I think for Attila
+Simon Tusch third age has less factions and is as unbalanced as can be
+Ryan Sun yea thats the way to go imo. third age Thursday, mod monday, SS sunday, and the rest a mix of vanilla, expansions and maybe some other tw
I cry when is say this. I'm a big Lord Of The Rings fan and seeing this video is made me jump from my seat. Thank you Pixelated Apollo!!
Been waiting for someone to come up with this one
Getting snowed in, having breakfast, and watching the Last alliance in total war. NO better way to start off your day!
+Miles Brown :DDD
That sauron is undefeatable.. damn so strong. Even when he runs, he kills many along his path
this s one of the best total war videos on youtube
The last alliance battle was like the battle of the black gate, they bought the fight to sauron
And the Oscar goes to Pixelated Apollo, seriously the best intro
I totaly enjoyed watching this! Thank you :)
Thanks a lot! That's pure epicness))) Don't even need to play to watch this awesomeness)
I love watching you're video's its feels like im watching a movie. Thanks for making these video's i will always support you ! :)
Whenever I see Sauron fighting I have to think of your Sauron vs Balrog video, It was just too hilarious xD
+silentkiller2mm hahah I think of that too!
Gil-galad was an Elven-king.
Of him the harpers sadly sing;
the last whose realm was fair and free
between the Mountains and the Sea.
His sword was long, his lance was keen.
His shining helm afar was seen;
the countless stars of heaven's field
were mirrored in his silver shield.
But long ago he rode away,
and where he dwelleth none can say;
for into darkness fell his star
in Mordor where the shadows are.
And again, great replay from Apollo, keep up the good work!
Holy crap Apollo I asked and you delivered!!!!! Best vid yet WOOOH!!!
pixelated Apollo i watch your videos every day keep it up.
"It is just a big little circle of dead ork everywhere." ~ Pixelated Apollo - 2016
Pixelated Apollo- " The men of arnor are so beautiful " Truly a quote to remember 11:10
This battle was absolutely amazing and very unexpected. My nerd juices was flowing so fast once I saw this.

"Just a big little circle of dead orcs" -Pixelated Apollo, 2016

Awesome battle and great atmosphere. An epic, visual blast.

finally yes I've been wait for this 4 ever
this is my favorite of all times loved it
the epicness of the intro with that excellent score of music blows me away....if u don't like the first 2min of this vid :D then I think u haven't seen the movie :D ..Apollo has the eye [and the ear] for creating the intros to these vids :D ....excuse..me I just have to watch this intro again :D thax to historygeneral who helped to create this scenario and the players who both playtested it[too numerous to mention] and those who played thru the lagfest that was this epic battle :P
Playing Dwarf Fortress has taught me the folly of the forces of Mordor. They just needed to use more magma.
this is your best vid i like this battle more then all others
I expected Sauron to be nothing more than a buffed up, re-skinned axeman or something. So seeing him charging through entire units and sending groups of soldiers flying with each attack was AWESOME!
fun fact he is actually a reskinned elephant
seriously he is an elephant in the code (only way to get him to decimate lines like he does)
Oh I know. Still awesome, though the real Sauron - for a given definition of 'real' - could do that to actual elephants so...
Nice vid Apollo keep up the good work
Just epic man... just epic... wish I had this game...
I only saw the leaders of the last alliance taking on Sauron and thus thought the war was over.
