    The whole ether arc felt like filler but I liked the plot twist that Newton was right all along

    • @HighlyEntropicMind
      @HighlyEntropicMind  5 месяцев назад +8

      It wasn't filler, it was important to establish the importance of accepting the evidence and abandon your expectations, which was a setup for the climax of the "Particle-wave duality arc"
      Also, Newton wasn't right, because he didn't imagine that light could have wave-like properties. If anything he was half right, as was Fresnel and Huygens and all the others who defended the wave theory

    Maybe it is just that you just happen to be teaching at just the right level for me to feel so relaxed and engaged at the same time, but I'd like to think it's the actual quality of your content.
    You again manage to word so many concepts I've struggled to really get a good grasp on the basic idea (im not a scientist. I just like science education instead of netflix, I guess). I get fascinated, humbled, have a laugh, and learn something new with every one of your videos. Keep doing what you are doing. ❤

    Great. Now I am picturing Light as the scoobydoo villain, who is - as the mask is finally removed - revealed to be wearing another mask below it. And then another, and another, and so on - alternating between particle and wave, both being plain old trollfaces with the text in boldface written on it.

    6:46 only problem I have so far is that the speed of light isn’t really constant in my working experience. Yes, the MAX speed limit for light is INDEED constant, however the speed of light through different media (like fiber optic glass, air, and water) drastically diminishes that speed. Just a little nitpick, correct me if I’m misunderstanding something 😅

    • @HighlyEntropicMind
      @HighlyEntropicMind  4 дня назад +1

      you are right, the speed depends on the medium, I meant "the speed of light in the vacuum"

      I always try to add little details to humanize them, and this is often difficult because I can't find information about them outside their work. Of course this wasn't a problem in the case of Einstein, but I'm happy you noticed it anyway

    I would like you to talk more about the EM wave representation shown at 11:24. I've heard on multiple accounts the two waves were linked and perpendicular, but also phase shifted 90 degrees apart. The crest of the Electric wave's intensity would coincide with the zero crossing of the Magnetic wave. Is this true?

    • @HighlyEntropicMind
      @HighlyEntropicMind  3 месяца назад

      Yes, it is true, that's how light works. If you want to learn more I recommend you read "Introduction to electrodynamics" by David J Griffiths

    25:41 but wait a minute, don’t black holes have rings of light around them?

  • @flmbray
    @flmbray 5 месяцев назад +1

    Can you clarify what you mean at 25:12? You seem to be saying that mass of an object A that is orbiting another object B affects the speed that object A needs in order to be in orbit around object B. I don't think that is true?? The orbital velocity equation is sqrt(GM/R) where M is the mass of the object B (the object at the center of the system), not of object A (the object that is orbiting). It is known that light can orbit black holes, although those orbits are unstable. This seems like a very simple and obvious oversight that I wonder if I'm misunderstanding the point you were trying to make. In any case, I love your videos... can't wait for the QFT2 video to drop! Please take your time though and don't skimp on those animations! Quality over quantity!!!

    • @HighlyEntropicMind
      @HighlyEntropicMind  5 месяцев назад +1

      When you work out the velocity needed to have a stable orbit you indeed find that the mass of the object doesn't matter, as you mentioned, and there are many possible orbits at different speeds
      But since light has zero mass and only one speed, it turns out it can have only one possible orbit, and any deviation from that launches it away, so it's unstable, as you mentioned
      However, while the speed to be in orbit doesn't depend on the mass, the energy an object needs to reach that speed does depend on the mass, and that's what I wanted to say, but you are right, I didn't explain it well enough

  • @Elia1988seoul
    @Elia1988seoul 4 дня назад

    can't light sometimes orbit blackholes?

    • @HighlyEntropicMind
      @HighlyEntropicMind  3 дня назад +1

      It's like balancing a pencil on its tip. It's technically possible, but it's so unstable that in practice it never happens

    • @HighlyEntropicMind
      @HighlyEntropicMind  5 месяцев назад +1

      Good point! This movement does cause a change in the light, but not in its speed, rather it changes its color. If light is moving towards us it looks bluer, if it moves away it looks redder. This is how we discovered that the universe is expanding

Please adjust all the clips in the video so they have the same AUDIO DECIBEL LEVELS! Use a compressor if needed! If you are familiar with visualizing waves then it would be super obvious when the amplitude kicks in and drops. Your bits are waaaay lower than the clips of the yt channel you're quoting. Annoying
