I was having a vibration issue when letting the clutch out in first gear about to roll on throttle, would the shorter springs cause this? Why are the longer springs nice? Im replacing the whole clutch from a barrett Jackson to oem today
derrick Milbourne my video glasses battery died or I would have. my son also has a ZX10R, sounds like his clutch basket is loose (common from what I've heard) so if we do his I'll definitely add that to the video.
yea a lot of folks will get those welded, me personally have not had that issue yet in almost 7 years of owning the bike and 5 of them racing it, i know the gen 2 zx10 has that issue bad... it is worth looking into a billet basket or just simply doing what you intend on doing and that is welding to prevent any damage in the future
So I noticed on the outlaw kits you are not supposed to run full synthetic oil.. is that the case on all kevlar discs or just the outlaw brand? Thanks in advanced
i have an 05, did all this but i have a bunch of slack in the clutch cable and i feel like the clutch rod isnt engadging the clutch like it should. ive look up so much and just dont see whats wrong. could the new plates be to thick or something?
@@MotoCheez yes everything is exactly the same, the kit is the same even. i went out to take it out of gear to see if that was my prob, assuming somehting silly... nothing. its like theirs no resistance on the rod (part that connects the cable) until it hits the end of its through but this leaves a ton of slack in the cable. nither the rod or the pusher thing in there look bad at all. the only thing i can think of is if the steel plates are not the correct width somehow and there's no room to engage. or visaversa but everything is tight lined up fits great. i have lined everything up stagared the last fiber... idk. hes clutch cable was really tough before this, just a side note.
I can't remember, but didn't you have to have the lever on the cover facing a certain way when you put the cover on to grab the arm that pulls the clutch basket. It's been a while
@@MotoCheez yes looks the exact same. pressure plate is in the correct spot. everything is tightened down correctly. It has to be the stack height issue.
@@MotoCheez I’ve been trying to put some new friction and steel plates in for the past 4 days I’ve opened up the clutch gasket 16 times now and the only results I’ve gotten so far is that the bike won’t stop wanting to move forward even when I pull in the clutch like the plates won’t separate. The other thing is they don’t grip together so the bike just slips all the time, I’m talking like 10 mph at 13K rpms. Any advice for the reasoning behind that? Much appreciated.
@@305camilo7 you sure the clutch is adjusted properly once you install the new plates? Should have 1/8" or so free play before you feel the clutch at lever
@@MotoCheez I will try that next time because now to top everything off the clutch rod shaft that when you pull the clutch it separates them is broken so I have to wait for the new one to arrive before anything else
+MotoCheez thnx for answering. the first plate that goes ik in is a soft plate correct? I just replaced mine, but my clutch lever is so short. it won't go into neutral
bro your clutch is totally done wrong is why it was slipping!!!!!!! did you not take note of upon removing the old clutch that you had no friction plate for the last plate you had steel on steel.. upon new installation you installed a friction plate on the last plate before applying the pressure plate. did that not ring a alarm in your head? im not the best, but i do have great knowledge in the clutch area of a 05 zx10r.. ask me if you have any questions, this is not a good video to go by at any means! it simply lacks a lot of strong points that should be explained and done way better. especially in such an important area such as the clutch!!
derrick Milbourne I don't recall any metal on metal, I know that's no good, has to be metal then friction. I've done at least 20 different wet clutches on bikes. maybe I cut it on the video??? I know better than that
aggressive_Dan yes, I took out the spring cushion, I made sure I had same thickness in plates to make up for it. Here's an article on the soaking. forums.13x.com/index.php?threads/do-you-have-to-soak-clutch-plates-before-installing.88026/page-2
Good vid but why block out what your doing? Instead of typing it? Doesn’t seem very professional to me but if you got a normal vid. Down to check that out. Have fun bro
i am not dissing you at all, i just see you have 7k views on this vid so that tells me there are 7k people that have bad knowledge upon watching this vid.. but the worst thing you showed is how not to pay attention to detail! if you need any suggestions feel free to ask me and i will gladly help get you in the best direction i can bro...
I saw your other reply, clutch does not slip now because I installed it correctly. I have no idea who did it before me but it was wrong when I took it apart.
you dont always have to replace every steel and fiber either, only want to replace the ones that need replacing per the maintenance manual from Kawasaki.. I drag race my 05 zx10 and change my clutches in 5mins total time because i have to change them out so much from beating them up
derrick Milbourne true, but they come with the kit and normally they are glazed from slipping. I've been riding and doing motorcycle repairs for over 30 years. I don't use a shop manual except for torque and reference. I've rebuilt transmissions on half a dozen bikes too (Forks and shift drum, bearings etc) I know my way around a bike.
my apologies i do see now that you go into details about things i was picking on, honestly i was kind of frustrated about the video and skipped passed some stuff, due to my lack of attention of reading and being lazy i missed some parts that you do say it was intalled wrong first
Cheers for posting the vid man !.. loved the out of synch beeps lol

you should do a continuation of the video for the cover installation, the bolt tightening sequence and proper clutch adjustment
derrick Milbourne my video glasses battery died or I would have. my son also has a ZX10R, sounds like his clutch basket is loose (common from what I've heard) so if we do his I'll definitely add that to the video.
Are you referring to the springs in the back of the basket? Ive never had a problem with the basket itself coming loose.. thats weird! !
derrick Milbourne the rivets on the basket I guess. his makes a slight rattle. I saw something about it in the forums.

derrick Milbourne I saw the gen 2 had major issues too, if I can weld it when I take it apart I will. thanks for the info.
Last two fiber disc you didn't put the notch the same way you did the other ones....why?
I don't know what you mean
At 7:58 the fiber disc are line up but at 8:19 the last two are not.. .why? I'm about to do mines
They only will line up, I may have moved the clutch basket
where was the jutter spring and flat spring???? where those on top of the clutch cushion or was it behind the clutch cushion?????
So I noticed on the outlaw kits you are not supposed to run full synthetic oil.. is that the case on all kevlar discs or just the outlaw brand? Thanks in advanced
I didn't see that on these discs... I still ran synthetic in this bike with no problems.
this was a really good vid man thanks
Bostin Aycock TY😀
good vid, I retract my previous statements
derrick Milbourne thanks man!! I see you do know your stuff on these bikes.
derrick Milbourne can u help w my clutch install. Email me at edw33zy13@aol.com

It could be that you are missing a plate oh, did it look like it filled up the basket like in the video?

Must be
Did you put that cushion back on or not?
No. Better without it IMO

Maybe that's the issue all along?
Silly question but is this bike wet clutch?
Yes. It has a wet clutch system.
did you reuse the clutch cushion? or did you put the whole new plate set?
I did not reuse the clutch cusiin, but I did save it. I like a more positive clutch feel, works good without it
+MotoCheez thnx for answering. the first plate that goes ik in is a soft plate correct? I just replaced mine, but my clutch lever is so short. it won't go into neutral
+TheAsianDutchman you'll also have to re-adjust the clutch cable
+MotoCheez but before you did put the pressure plate back, it ended with a friction plate right and not steel? or did I see something wrong.
+TheAsianDutchman right, I said that backwards, started with friction, metal sandwiched, ended with friction..
stack height should be 2.11in. not a half of disc taller, the final friction plate should have been turned 1 notch over
derrick Milbourne what you mean 1 notch over
how can you tell if your clutch is slipping?
I can tell if you're trying to hammer gears and the rpms "flail" or you can't pop up 3rd gear.
you may need to watch your vid again budd, I clearly noticed no friction upon removal of the pressure plate and video was not cut...
derrick Milbourne I just bought the bike. the clutch I took out I have no clue who installed it.

your didt soak the fiber plates in oil....... big problem !
aggressive_Dan these were not organic clutch material. From all I've read online, Kevlar based fibers should not be soaked before installation
oh shit ok I just bought the ebc Kevlar ones where did you install the jutter spring and flat spring???? I didn't see it in the video

Bad bad very bad clutches got to be seat on oil for few so it suck oil (wet clutches)
Not these style, specified in directions "do not soak in oil".
