      Underrated in that he doesn’t get name checked as often as he should. He is a old school blueprint for point guard. Different teams offensive strategy works because the point guard makes it so. If Stockton is in you are slashing into the paint , breaking on the turnover and it’s like an Afro convention. Picks all over over and over again and again

      That's a hell of a career and they ran the high
      Pick & Roll, to perfection and nobody could defend it consistently. That was old school
      Ball and if you put them, in their prime, in todays NBA they would still be able to run
      That play to perfection. And Stockton would
      Average close to 20 assists per game.

    • @chriswebster24
      @chriswebster24 4 месяца назад +5

      Yeah, and like 15 of them were in one season, and 4 were in another. Something like that, anyway. Can’t remember exactly, but I know he played every single game, every single year, except for just a couple.
      What he did, playing 82 games a year, plus all those playoff games, year after year after year, the way he played, setting screens against anyone, at his size, was truly amazing.
      He was the toughest man to ever play the game, and the people who played against him knew it. He must’ve been injured so badly those 2 different times that he couldn’t walk.

    • @GoGetYourShinebox
      @GoGetYourShinebox 3 месяца назад +1

      It's weird how they say athletes today are better than ever, yet the injury rates are sky high. Maybe the lack of natural foods, as they're being sprayed more than ever these days. Not to mention the radio waves flying all over the place in this internet era. Imagine how much cleaner the world was before the internet blew up. Just cos we can't see radio waves don't mean they ain't there flying everywhere

    • @mikehart7885
      @mikehart7885 3 месяца назад +1

      They couldn't defend it consistently because Stockton had so many tools in his arsenal to instantly adapt. 20 assists per game isn't an exaggeration if he was playing the game today. The only way to prevent that would be to foul him repeatedly and then there'd be a high likelihood of more than one opponent fouling out. There was much more permissible contact during Stockton's era.

      Yeah, sure he is better than Magic or Zeke. Not one-on-one of course, but the job of any point guard is to distribute the ball AND to keep the opposing point guard FROM distributing the ball i.e. assists & steals. John Stockton has the all-time NBA record for not one, which itself would be a stupendous feat... but BOTH of these most important categories.
      And not by just a little either, but he's far and away the leader in both. I can't imagine a better general to run my team if I'm building one from scratch.
