Larry Bird and Ervin Johnson saved a dying NBA back in the early 1980s when they brought life back to the game by being UNselfish winners. The way they gave up their own scoring opportunities to actively include their teammates was amazing and fun to watch.. These two greats played every aspect of the game perfectly, had they wanted to be selfish they could have easily averaged 30-40 points a game every year they played. Teammates loved playing with Bird and Johnson, because they were team first guys, not selfish ego maniacs like others who soon followed.

Both of them had their share of skeptics. Both were often talked about as overrated. But after the wins kept piling on and it was obvious their teams weren't the same when they were injured, it was pretty much undisputed by 1989 or so that both were the best.

Then Worthy, way more talented than McHale or any of the others. Worthy was a #1 guy on any other team. Cooper, Scott, both quicker and better than Johnson, by far. DJ made the most of limited skills. Perkins was a #4 draft pick too! Also coulda been a #1 player on another team. They were ridiculous. Celtics were Bird plus a bunch of good role players. He made them better. No sane person could say the Celtics had the same talent, skills, and athleticism as Showtime. And don’t forget, he did the same thing in college for Indiana…State! DJ was a defensive specialist dating back to his Sonics days. Robert Parish was so good, he was kryptonite for Moses Malone.
For the Lakers, they were honestly a 2 all-star team after 1987 with Worthy and Magic as Kareem was a shell of his former self. In 1990, Perkins didn't have the same effect on the team as AC Green did as he didn't have the same energy level nor ran the fast break.
The most talented and absolutely loaded Lakers team was 1983. 5 Current or future all stars with former scoring champ Bob Macadoo, Kareem, Magic, Wilkes, and Worthy. Norm Nixon was arguably a top 3 point guard as well. But they weren't that great in the half court as the later Laker teams.

Some people try to shoehorn in Kareem instead of Wilt, but seeing a post-injury post-prime Wilt block consecutive Sky Hooks makes me fairly confident that a prime (say '66-'67) Big Dipper is the best center of all time.
Since basketball is a team sport, why would you pick a single GOAT, when there are five positions? @@theuniversegalaxynba insults? Ad hominem? That’s all you got? I swear to God intellectualism is dying a slow death in this country and millennials and Gen Z’s are definitely the edge of the knife stabbing it to death.
So, someone has a dissenting opinion against what you believe in, and the first thing you want to do is suppress that opinion, and then ridicule the argument. That’s called a tu quoque argument. Do you know who else suppresses opinions? Cults. You people remind me no less than how Trump supporters act. To be honest, you folks aren’t worthy of my intelligence and insight. I wish you luck.

In 1974 Larry Bird was my P.E assistant when I was in the 8th grade and he was a senior at Springs Valley High School. At the beginning of each P.E. class we always ran 10 warmup laps around the gym. One day, a trampoline was set up on the basketball court and there was Larry Bird bouncing on it. As the whistle blew and we reluctantly lined up to run our laps, our teacher (who was also Larry's basketball coach) blew his whistle, and said "Larry is going to take 10 shots while jumping on the trampoline. If Larry makes any shots, each one made will delete a lap that you must run." Coach threw the ball to Larry and right there in front of me and the entire boys Jr. High P.E. class, Larry proceeded to hit 7 out of 10 shots while bouncing up and down on the trampoline, 35 feet away from the goal. Larry set an incredible example for me as a young boy in French Lick, Indiana that helped me through my entire adult career. If you are willing to work very hard and never give up, your dreams can and will come true. Thank you Larry.

Michael Jordan fans are the worst sports fans of all time .

Michael Jordan fans, Bruce Lee fans and Beatles fans are the very worst in their respective realms. They think their idol is infallible and divine. I find Elvis Presley fans to be the most loyal and avid, yet they can still acknowledge Elvis’s lesser material and his artistic mistakes, the fact that he had some bad movies.

And you are one of those assholes that thinks because you have a podcast, you're an expert. Several folks on here are ex-players and have attempted to present facts but because you weren't around to witness it, you discard them? I know for a fact you weren't around when Columbus landed but I assure you he made it. Now, go dazzle someone else with your bullshit and insults. P.S. I'm a former player with more knowledge than you will ever acquire. We're done here.

The mutual respect these guys had for each other is unseen today. Both just oozed class and hard work ethics on a parallel scale which will probably NEVER be seen again! Thanks to both these guys for their 110% efforts EVERY single time they played!
