5:19 It's not supposed to be accidental, Fallout timeline is based on alternative timeline inspired by how people in the 50's imagined the future. And the reason for that is that the developer of the original game already made more traditional post-apocaliptic game (Wasteland) but lost rights for it, and was working on Mad Max game, and also lost rights for it, so they just wanted to make things a bit different.

Simpler explanation, they used sci-fi ideas and illustrations from the 1950s and used them for Fallout lore.

Use subtitles if you're going to talk through important dialogue. It'll save you problems with back story, character behaviors and statements later. If you isolate 100 people in a cave for 220 years in a short time most will be related. Not each game has to do with a specific vault, and each game is self contained.

@@DomR1997 Yeah, "cousin stuff" is predominant throughout human history (and I say "cousin stuff" not just to play off the episode, but because historically that's always been considered an entirely different thing compared to anything closer-anything closer has just about always been societally off-limits). We're in quite a unique point in time in recent decades where it's so strongly looked down on. And actually, for most of history, it's not even been an issue of "going past teenage years"-it was pretty much just accepted, even as a full-fledged relationship. If you have an interest in genealogy, you'll quickly see that you barely have to go back more than a few generations to see prolific cousin-cousin relationships between a set of parents/grandparents/etc. Everyone's got them in their very-near genetic history. It's a shock to see just how widespread it was if you have grown up in today's culture!

Fallout 4 is a great starting point, espectially if you're also divign into the show. BUT.... the games are all in the same world, but don't connect to each other super tightly. There are some factors that carry over, but not in such a way that playing them out of ofder makes much difference. And then there's 76... whiiiiich.... is canon.. but.... ehhh... Timeline for context
    Fallout - *2161*
    (Southern California)
    Fallout 2 - *2241*
    (Northern California & Nevada)
    Fallout 3 - *2277*
(Capital Wasteland, parts of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia)
    Fallout New Vegas - *2281*
(Mojave Wasteland, parts of California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona)
    Fallout 4 - *2287*
    (The Commonwealth, Massachusetts, Boston)
    Fallout TV - *2296*
    California and Nevada)
In Fallout 1 you play as The Vault Dweller who is actually the Grandfather to the Chosen One from Fallout 2. So both games are connected by the legacy of the Vault Dweller in both his impact on the Wasteland and the fact you play as his offspring.
Fallout 3's Capital Wasteland and Fallout 4's Commonwealth are only like a 7 days walk from each other so events, news, and characters can easily make their way between locations.
And finally Fallout New Vegas is just right up against the setting of the first two games so lore, factions, and even characters from Fallout 2 who can live long life's make an appearance. The Fallout TV show falls into this as well being set in California it's more connected to the older games than the East Coast stuff.

The look of the "future", the entire lore of Fallout, is basically an alternate reality. In the Fallout universe, when nuclear energy was created, it was used in pretty much every aspect of technology from then on.
And the look, of like the 50's, the idea there, is that the concept of a nuclear family, endured from the 50's untill 2077.
    It is all very intentional.

22:51 I realize you just started playing Fallout 4 and now you are asking why you didn't see the freezer chambers in Vault 33.
In all the games *before* Fallout 4, the stories were about people living in the vaults like a little city for the entire time. The war broke out, the "lucky" few managed to get a space in their nearest vault and then they lived in apartments with neighbors and had jobs, grew up, had children, grandchildren, and died. "You are born in the vault and will die in the vault". This became the hometown for generations of Vault Dwellers. It wasn't until Fallout 4 that they surprised the players by starting the game before the war and getting frozen. Every other game*, you were the descendant of people who had lived their whole lives there.
*OK, not every game. Fallout 2 you were a surface dweller descended from the character from the first Fallout game. New Vegas you are also a surface dweller with no connection to a particular home. Point is, there were no cryo-chambers except in FO4.

I feel like their agenda was simply to tell the story of the world and people who inhabit it. After all, even in the current world we live in now, the percentage of people that are identified even as MOSTLY hetero to completely homosexual is still maybe only at about 10% with most people being completely heterosexual. So the chances are really low, and then you have to think about it this way, homosexuality is a privilege that you can have in a world with a menagerie of partners and you having copulation with the same gender won't ruin your chances at furthering your living conditions, as well as that copulation won't affect the survivability of your entire species.
Here humanity albeit somewhat relatively plentiful is still on the brink of extinction with creatures that could easily kill humans an ever present danger with other humans as well that want to harm you, and your family is more likely going to be on your side of conflicts as well as having more bodies around allows for more labor to occur thus furthering the society you want to perpetuate. So the show not having too many homosexual things makes sense in this world. Not everything has to have an agenda, sometimes it's all about entertainment and telling the story of the world through its actors in it.

Speaking of games, I remember how disappointed I was with Fallout 4 for forcing straight stuff and removing perks for gay people but keeping straight ones.
Since here's some story. The OG Fallout from 1997 was created by a gay man, Fallout 2 from 1998 was the first game ever to have gay marriage, and Fallout New Vegas, created by the Obsidian, company made from many devs that worked on the two original Fallouts, introduced gay NPCs and perks that among the others defined your orientation. Fallout 4 kept only the straight versions, you start in loving straight marriage, and there are no gay NPCs, only 'playersexual' NPCs.

Its dissapointing the fact that a game has to have gay things in it for it to be seen as a good game. Imagine judging a game because it doesnt pander to your sexual preference like it used to. Its a videogame. Who cares? I guess you do lol. This game is just piece of the fallout universe. So if you didnt find your gay stuff here you can in the other games and the idea of being gay still exists in the fallout universe as all these games are cannon. The original idea by developers was to have a babys looks generated off the parents since its their baby. But you cant have a child with 2 males or 2 females. Lack of certain sexual reproduction organs is the problem. The whole reason youre hunting the wastelands is to find your child. It would've cost the development team time and money to create a new path with new voice overs and story and other things gay people might want just for a select few people who are gay. Also you never look for love again in fallout 4 so why would sexual preference have any relevance to you finding your god damn child in this god damn wasteland. So if you have a kid with someone you dont like does that impact how you feel about the kid? If your not a piece of sh*t then you will love that child no matter what because its yours. So because you started the game by having a kid with someone you dont like that means the rest of the game is going to be disappointing. Thats sad.
