That's what defense should look like ! A mix of genuine lockdown defense (teams are trying their hardest to free their ball handlers from him with tons of screens) , next level reflexes and understanding of the scheme alongside with a grit and a passion that is second to none 😤 He's at the very least a first team all defense lock
Get this man back on First Team All Defense!!! Just watching him fight around screens is beautiful, that is not even talking about all the "Smart" plays he gives us every single game.
Awesome to see all the efforts by smother brother (Smart), finally pay off. Well deserved! I've watched BB for a long time and do not remember another guard who plays as "big" as Smart does. His defense is excellent even when hes guarding fives. Guys who can guard one through five are usually bigs who are agile. Not 6'3" guards who can play like they're 6'10"!!!! The Celtic switching defense would not be nearly as effective without Smart on one end and Rob(who's extremely agile for his size) on the other. It's not like any team can just switch to this defensive philosophy and succeed. You need the right roster for it to work.
Thing I love about Smart is that he's not using physical gifts to dominate defensively, like Giannis, Gobert, and even Mikal Bridges (wingspan, heigh for a wing). He's a good athlete, but he's not exceptional. Has long arms for his height, but not freakishly long like a Rondo. He just decided he was going to be a stopper way back and kept refining it, and kept learning so that he's never out of position. A game changing player who might score 8 points with 3 assists, but the guy he's guarding is like 3-10. I see the same in Davion Mitchell.
Jrue holiday, Lu Dort, Jimmy butler, Matisse Thybulle, Herbert Jones, Davion Mitchell, rudy gobert, Giannis, Myles turner, Scottie Barnes, Jarrett Allen are all better defenders.

He makes everybody work extra hard on offense! Especially sending the baseline and making them pick up there dribble 👏🏾👏🏾 straight clamps

Rudy gobert and Lu Dort are better defenders he does not deserve DPOY
Lu Dort💀
Rudy gobert is a shot blocker in a perimeter dominated league most bigs don't even play in the paint
