Roe deer photography with the OM-1 and 150-400m lens and the G9 Mk2 for video footage.

I spend a morning photographing Roe deer without much success. At one point I have to hand hold my OM-1 and 150-400mm lens, which is easy for stills photography, but much more difficult for video.
Things improve when I return with my tripod. Then using the G9 Mk2 I get some decent video footage too.
I wonder if using a Thermal Imager would help me locate Roe deer and other wildlife easier.
