- In this video I show how I fish for Tripletail AKA Blackfish. There are many ways to target these great fighting fish, but I've honed in to what works for me. Live shrimp is my Go to bait when it comes to catching Blackfish. My top 3 setups that I use is a Slip Cork Rig, a popping cork rig, and I always like to have a free line setup as well. Always keep a lookout when you are cruising from different spots because you never know when you might see one just floating out in the middle of nowhere. Hope y'all enjoy and Lemme know if y'all would like to see more content similar to this. Thanks!

Great video... We used to see floats in blue water 80 miles out and it would be funny just to stick net in water next to them and the triples just swim into your net like it's their new home.
That’s awesome I’ve never seen it done like that before but I’ve definitely heard of people doing it. Bet that is fun to watch!
That's one of my favorite fish to Target. Good video keep it up Captain I enjoy them.
Yep, it’s one of those things where it can be boring until it’s NOT!
That's right! I fish out of Sabine lake and Gulf area in Texas. We have had a pretty good fishery for TT over the years. I have landed several over 20lbs.
Heck yes brother, I love catching them Saltwater bream. Great video!
Thanks buddy! It never gets old
How cool! Joey tagged that one at 8am on July 4th 😉 I videoed it but not sure how to send. Full circle on the Triple tails!!
Wow That’s awesome! lol I think we caught that one around 12 or 1
Awesome! Brandon, are triple tail on the buoys now? When is prime time to catch them? Man, it’s because of your videos I decided to purchase a bay boat instead keep using my lil ole 14’ grizzly with a 25hp!
brandon, when do the tripletails start showing up on the buoys? great video!
Great video man! I love the tripletail action. So fun to catch.
They really are, hope to be getting on some more real soon!
@@CaptCollier same here over in Charleston!
Broke off 2wice in one day. 1st triple tail we landed had both our previous hooks with specific leaders in mouth. Crazy hungry!
Wow! That poor fish was just collecting jewelry haha awesome he at 3 times in a row
Awesome video. I’m going to have to try this out!
Do it man. Sometimes they are everywhere you look and sometimes it’s slow, just be prepared to run through some fuel looking for them
Nice perch...
lol.
Great Lakes Fishing Guy
Thanks! Only They fight alittle harder and taste better
@@CaptCollier I believe that Virgil...
We’re going in August !!
youre right, I found diving birds and caught catfish!
Lol every time for me!
Found birds Sunday at F morgen white and specks eating shrimp and a gaf
Awesome, yea for some reason I have more luck with specks around birds on that side of the bay
Great vid! Thanks
Preciate ya watching!
If I''m sight fishing for them on top I don't like using a cork for one reason. They attack the cork constantly and avoid the shrimp lol
I typically don’t either, I’d prefer just a hook. Lol for that same reason!
Yeah boi get em!!
We out here! 😅
I have caught two tagged trips one was tagged two years prior in the same bay and the other was tagged one day before I caught him.
That’s crazy. How much longer was the one you caught that was 2 years prior?
@@CaptCollier he was 14” when tagged and 26.5” when I caught him. Going after them tomorrow.
is there anything you can’t catch?? lol great video
Lol just the fish I can’t quite get too in my boat. Thanks capt!
Good video thanks 👍
Thanks for watching!
Hey captain great video ! My wife and I finally got approved for our house bay d’olive are their triples to be caught there or is that to far into the bay ?
Thankyou! And I’ve caught tripletail as far north as gilliard island. Usually don’t try any further north than that, not too say they won’t creep up that way if we don’t have a lot of rain for awhile
@@CaptCollier Thanks, and yeah I guess I’m just gonna have to tell the wife I’m searching the entire bay then !
Is that straight out from the cut off
I was wondering if south Alabama had a tagging system for residential fisherman.?
I tag with through USM. Cobia and tripletail. I do believe USA also has a tagging program as well
Do you like the seahunt? I’m wanting a new boat to do all from inshore to offshore, what would you recommend?
It gets the job done… really depends on your price range. There’s a lot of other boats I’d rather have in the 22-26ft range but can’t afford lol
@@CaptCollier I’ve got a 20 seacraft but I need more seating and storage. The blazer 2400s are 80-90k, I like the Makaira but it’s 160k These boat prices have gotten crazy crazy.
@@jacobchandler3443 you ain’t lying about that man, I’ve been wanting to upgrade to a bigger boat my it my dang wallet will be hurting bad lol
Barney needs to learn how to lead a fish to the net...dang!
Haha! Yes he does 😅
what size reels would you recommend for targeting triple tail 3000-4000? mono or braid for main line?
I like a 4000 size, just in case you hook a big momma. 20lb braid with a 3-4ft 20-30lb flouro leader tied with an FG knot.
Looks a little like a crappie, and before you start pointing out the differences, I did say 'a little'.
Naw you’re right lol I call them saltwater crappie all the time
Man where is everyone catching these monster trout at. Cause I ain’t caught shit
Lol west end, rigs, sand island. A lot of people wade for the bigger ones
