Hahaha... U seriously need to learn better Viet... I hope u understand "Bác Kỳ" is a derogatory term. "Bác" means North, "kỳ" means weird... Therefore, we southerners call them "Bác Kỳ", ie weird northerners, LOL
This is incorrect. "Kỳ" means "Miền" or "Region". Therefore, we used to have terms like "Bắc Kỳ", "Trung Kỳ", "Nam Kỳ" for the three main regions of Viêt Nam during the French colonial days. Only after 1975, the term "Bắc Kỳ" started implying a somewhat negative connotation due to historical and social context.
Great video again my guy. What happened to Wendel? Wendel adds a crazy factor to your video and should be able to do a FaceTime as you compare things in the homeland to the overpriced cuisines she has to deal with. In that one video where you guys took the sleeping bus together, I swore I heard you said you were on your way to meet your wife was you round that corner in the beginning to enter the bus station where Wendel was waiting. Then I saw a more recently video where someone trying to matchmake you with their daughter studying in Korea in the present of the sadness of the restaurant waitress who may be casted in the lower rung of society if she just work there instead of relating to the business owner. I had to rewatch the other video with subtitle to understand you said ‘way’ instead of ‘wife’. You Aussie always sound like you have a cold when speaking English so my wife and I were cheering you on with false information. Very impressive that you have this many subscribers in under 2 years of your first trip where you said you decide to follow your dream. I hope you have a backup plan in case you’ll only end up with 300k subscribers instead of 3 mils. Best of luck snd hope you make enough from the videos to at least stay afloat. Otherwise, you may have to tap into Aussie socialist welfare society. I have some very distant relatives who planned to nomad in VN full time while collecting government free cheese but the law changed and they can’t qualify for full welfare benefit if they don’t live locally. Their plan went burst as they sold their house and bought a place in VN but can only visit part time while having to pay rent year round in the west on the apartment, which is 1/4 the size of their house but the rent is higher than their previous mortgage.
Thank you for your time and posting. I'm flying into Da Nang in October and staying for about 6 weeks to see if I want to retire there in January. I'll put this on my todo list. Thanks again.
@@jasonhudson739 My six weeks will be maybe a week in Da Nang, then up and down the coast for 5 weeks. Da Nang is too big a city for what I want. Hue looks nice along with a few others. Thanks.
I spent a day there coming back from Phong Nha, was catching the flight to Ho Chi Minh & on to Sydney the next day. I was blown away, loved it. Beautiful beaches, quiet streets, super welcoming locals. Spent the day walking around and only saw 2 other white tourists. Much happier there in an authentic Vietnamese town & culture than say a Danang which I find is set up for western tourists. Will be back.
Damn you David! You've let the secret out! I've been keeping this place a secret since I first went there in 2016. It's my favourite place to hang out and live like a local away from the tourist trail. I'll be back there in October to visit my girlfriend and all being well I'll be retiring there within the next 12 months. I was enjoying your channel until now. Keep up the good work. I'll let your fopah slide. 😊
Is YT paying you enough to stay afloat? I keep hearing $5-$25 per 1000 views so you maybe pulling in less than $200 per week on a best week. Is that why you can cop tickets for Wendel? You are lucky that your tickets probably run for under $500 round trip instead of around $2k for us in the far end of the west.
I didn't get a chance to comment on the video where you lost your go-bag so I'm leaving a note here. My heart and jaw dropped for you when you said you lost your stuff. I can absolutely relate to this sinking feeling and am so glad you are OK and back to traveling! I was washing dishes in the middle of the night while watching that video and I let out an audible 'ah sh*' when I hit that part of your video.
8:15 David !there’s no such thing as Vietnam-American war . It was a Vietnamese civil war between communist North Viet nam backed by china; the Soviet Union ,and eastern communist blocs versus capitalist South Vietnam backed by allies such as the US and including Australia. Just a little history lesson for you. Cheers
You should learn a little history. You should search Google carefully to get information before commenting on others. Let's ask you where the air battles (1965-1972) took place in the territory of Northern Vietnam, where the US Air Force lost 735 planes (including 61 B-52 planes, 13 F-111 planes) shot down, sunk, burned 125 warships, hundreds of US pilots died and were captured. Why did not a single plane or pilot from South Vietnam participate in that period? If you say the US supported the South Vietnamese army, why did the US and its allies send troops to Vietnam to directly participate in the fighting, while there were no soldiers from the Soviet Union or communist countries? From 1965 to January 1973, the US mobilized about 3 million US troops to South Vietnam. At its peak in 1968-1969, there were 638,000 US troops directly involved in the war (accounting for more than 18% of the total US troops at that time), of which 535,000 were stationed in South Vietnam.
This guy's so sad. I've seen his other videos. He's pro-communist which is ironic since his family fought and escaped communism. He was raised in Australia with Western values like free speech and Western education, and now he's supporting a regime that still imprisons people for making TikTok videos poking fun at politicians.
36:30 girls flirting with david, he's going to spend time with their families already. things are moving fast! lol even if they're not the one, I'm sure they have cute friends to introduce you to as well.
Interestingly enough, the newly built church looks so grand, and it's probably twice as big as the old one that had been destroyed during the Vietnam War.
very nice and interesting. i have been watching several you tubers in vietnam with some live videos and many posted 1 to a few days later and do not remember seeing Dong Hoi. it is also great you are another that does home work on a place before hand so you can talk and make the video even more interesting. thanks for the traveling videos in nam! makes me wonder what the cost of renting is there if one wanted to move there.
I've literally just arrived in dong hoi ( completely random train journey from Hue)and it's a breath of fresh air from the hustle and bustle of the usual tourist trail.
That chilli sauce on those banh mi lad was top. We went every morning for like a week aha 2 banh mi and one or two coffees.
