Capsule wardrobe, costume jewelry, tote-style or backpack style purse with smaller purse inside, leggings for lounging, carry on bag for a weeklong trip. Serena, I agree that a light shawl is great worn as a scarf for travel day. They are so handy to use as a blanket. Take a favorite solid color dress that can go casual or dressed up. Very light scarves can double as belts or shawls. Try on anything that hasn't been worn before, coordinating the whole outfit to make sure every item packed is useful and versatile.
My last trip, I tried using old prescription bottles that are orange with white tops. I tested them with tap water first and they did not leak. I put a travel sized amount of my face and body products in them and they performed perfectly--no leaking! They were light and took up a small amount of space.
Serena your videos are awesome. I prefer you over all the others. Your style is fun, upbeat and informative. And......affordable. Thank you I am learning so much from you.
I absolutely agree with the Longchamp La Pliage bag! It is such a durable and versatile travel staple. I bought mine prior to my Aruba trip last year and used it as a beach bag because of the lining! It doesn’t look austentatiuos thereby not attractive to thieves.
The only thing that I’d add is packing cubes. I purchased a set of 3 from Chicos and I really liked that I could keep my unmentionables contained in my luggage and transfer to a drawer in the hotel easily.
I’m going on an overseas trip soon where it will be rainy/windy for most of the trip. Taking a wind breaker jacket with a hood and a heavier one with a hood. Also packed tank tops, short sleeves and long sleeves for layering. Taking my Sperrys rain boots, Chelsea boots and a pair of tennis shoes. Got a crocheted hat to keep my head warm. I consolidated my daily personal items with hair products so that I only have one bag. Also purchased a new anti theft bag, as my old one is pretty worn. I purposely got a medium size suitcase so that I don’t over pack. Doing 2 weeks. My personal carry on bag fits my meds, book, phone charger, my purse and much more and it’s not that big. The one advice I do have and did was to email the hotels to make sure that they have a hairdryer and available iron. They all did, so 2 less things to bring and worry about. This year I am definitely not taking any “just in case” items. If I need an umbrella, I will purchase one there. The videos I’ve seen said the wind can be so strong that the umbrella inverts itself and is more of a pain to actually have. I’m already around 75% packed. 🤞🏽
I always feel I have overpacked. However, after the trip, I was glad. It rained and my slacks were mud splattered. My shoes were soak. The weather changed and I was so glad I threw in a few cashmere turtlenecks. It is wise to think that you do need a few extra items.
Great travel tips! I use to take my jewelry and put in the safe deposit box till I got home. ha! If someone broke in, they couldn't find it because it wasn't there. Especially at the beach........you just don't need it. Have fun on your trip!!
I always travel in sneakers. My feet get cold on planes and in the car with the air on. I always fly early, never running to crowds, and usually flying through the airport.

@@StylewithSerena .........that's a great idea! I would love to see our 1 million basics in a new light! Last winter so warm, I didn't even put on a sweater but once or twice.

You have changed my life the way I dress and I appreciate you so so much you just don’t know. May God truly bless you, Kathy from North Carolina
Great travel tips Serena. I haven't traveled sense before covid and I'll be traveling to Wisconsin soon. So this video was perfect for me as I needed to be reminded of all of these fabulous tips.
I learned a valuable lesson about wearing comfortable shoes! I wore my fancy cowboy boots when my husband and I flew from Houston to Las Vegas for the rodeo. OMG I will never do that again. By the time we got to our hotel room my left knee was hurting so bad that I thought I wasn’t going to be able to walk around and enjoy anything.
Great tips, Serena. I am the master of overpacking, lol. What I want to wear when I'm packing might not be what I want to wear when I get to my destination. I'm such a squirrel, haha. Have a good evening!
Tip: check to see if your destination has a laundromat nearby. Many places have wash & fold service for less than you’d pay for coin-op machines in the US.
Which shoes do you hike in while traveling? Those sneakers you showed wouldn't work for hiking. I end up taking trail running shoes which aren't cute but are good for hiking and are lightweight.
Hiking, like in the woods? if I were going on a vacation where hiking was involved, I would take a different wardrobe altogether and bring a pair of my Sorel boots that are warm, waterproof, etc.
Thank you Serena for all the very smart tips for traveling. I’m guilty of overpacking, and always sorry that I did, because so much, I don’t end up wearing. That’s horrible about your jewelry being stolen. Some people lack a conscience, stealing from others, so sickening. Thanks again Serena for another one of your great videos. Have a wonderful and safe trip.
Thank you Karen! 🙏🏻 Yes, the pieces were stolen from a hotel. I didn't realize they were missing until I got home and unpacked and couldn't find them anywhere. I thought they were in my travel jewelry roll but they weren't. I contacted the hotel but of course no one had found them. (Of course not 🙄) This was a very nice hotel too. I guess someone with housekeeping got themselves some nice pieces.
I just dont own any valuable jewelry anymore after my home got broken into right before the pandemic. All my stuff got stolen which is fine except a string ng of pearls that my grandma left me !!! I'm still upset about that!!!! 😭😭😭😭. Ugh!! So I hear you about being upset over sentimental things being taken!! 😭😭😭😭
It is awful. The Diamond necklace I had stolen was the solitaire from my grandmother's wedding ring. She left it to me so I had a necklace made out of it. I don't think I'll ever get over it.
Do you wear any no show socks with your loafers? I can’t find any to wear with mine that are completely no- show and I really don’t want to go barefoot when it’s colder. I live in Ohio. Just wondered what your thoughts were!
I usually go without socks unless it's really cool and I'm wearing loafers that cover enough of my foot that they don't show. BUT...socks are trending this year! As well as tights under pants, so bring out the old knee-highs! Especially patterned ones.
If you don’t like going without socks Peds makes different no show socks for different shoes. They have some that come lower on the top of your foot (closer to your toes) or ones that sit a little bit higher on your foot. I’m not sure I’m explaining it well. I do believe it was at Walmart I found them. I usually go without in my loafers.
I screwed up once upon a time and wore sandals on a return trip from Antigua. Had to take them off going through security in Antigua and in Miami. Ugh! That's a mistake I will never, never, ever make again.
@@StylewithSerena I purchased an inexpensive tote from Walmart and the straps are the first thing to show wear. The body is mostly nylon and I highly recommend that over heavier materials. You do get what you pay for and that Le Pliage bag is a classic.
@@janishuey3639 it's true. This bag has been used & abused and it's still in great shape! I think I've had it since 2009!!! I know I took it to Hawaii and that was in 2010 so I've had it at least that long.

I always suggest bringing a pair of flip flops to use as slippers, or shoes to wear in a spa. Lightweight and takes virtually no space.
Good idea!
Yes! I usually take two inexpensive pairs so that I can use one for shower shoes.
