For 26 years I drove for UPS and must have listened to 100 audiobooks per year. Now I'm retired, wrote my own Novel and turned it into an Audiobook. I posted the full length version for others to listen to for free, and I hope you enjoy my story if you are an audiobook listener. The Fix-it-Shop by Friedrich Wilhelm is the name of my Audiobook. Be alert while driving, I've witnessed too many terrible accidents over my 26 years as a commercial driver.

Hello Wolkify ! I am a french writer who has freely chosen to give away every audible rights of my books when i am still alive and well ! My skills are crime novels and old fashioned humourous radio drama. I have found a wonderfull reader and by that way of doing, I have been able to conquer new listeners and NOT ONLY disable people. I am glad to be a company for a lot of artists - painters - long-distance-drivers, nurses, night-stand jobs... The reading always adds a dimension. Today, when everything is on tape - thanks to AUDACITY, another great-generous project - it is possible to put a lovely music introduction, sounds, thank to the artists who share their composition. Am I stealing myself in sharing my work freely as I do ? NO ! On the contrary ! I feel very... content ! MONEY is NOT everything ! Enjoyed your video very much. Good work !

If you live in the U.S., your local public library may have an audiobook collection, free with your library card. If your local town is small and it does not offer this, check out the next larger county and they might. I have to pay an annual fee to use a public library which is not in the county I live, but in three books, the fee equivalent is paid.

I love reading but, I am an auditory learner, and rather skilled instrumentalist. In college I used to record my own voice on a recorder reading my study notes, then play it back to myself in the car or before bed to help me memorize things. Other considerations are audio book summaries, for many books can easily be summarized
Most of these are extended articles and blogs "fatten up" to book length via "war stories"
Also, searching on the author will find extended talks by the author on a book
This provides an insight into if hearing/reading the full-length version of the book would be worth the time

Check out your local public libraries because a lot of them have audiobooks to check out, free with a library card. My library does not have audiobooks because it is a tiny little town, so I drive to the next larger town north, which has a HUGE audiobook collection. Since I am not from that county in the U.S., I do have to pay an annual fee. It runs around $35 a year and up which is still much cheaper than other avenues.

Reading Shakespeare is like tasting a Michelin star restaurants best dish more than just good an unforgettable experience. i totally understand listening to Jane Eyre's or Herman Melville's work they can be dry until you get to some more juicy or exciting parts of them. This goes for the free, paid, classic and contemporary audio books I've come across. On Audible and on other sites.

There's a place in your local community (unless you town is small) where you can borrow an audiobook for FREE. Besides paper books, they have at least a shelf or several (especially in larger cities) of audiobooks you can borrow for 3 or 4 weeks. Many of these places now let you borrow audiobooks online also, if you wish to use the internet to borrow them. Have I given enough hints what these places are called?

I hate it when people make reading a book seem like work. It is supposed to feel that way when your in primary school before high school. At first most people hit that wall where they find they read a page and feel like they read nothing. That's normal. What you do is stop, and now read one sentence at the top of the page. Stop. Ask yourself what you just read Go on to the next sentence and repeat that process. If you stick with it you will find you wont have to use this technique for long as your comprehension will simply begin to kick in intuitively. There thats the advice I was given many moons ago in my late teens as I too was struggling. And if you cant do that then go play video games, go hit a bong, go spank it but above all go away. You will probably remain this way all your life. Lol. If you font enjoy reading you will not do it. It's an acquired appreciation. It comes by doing it, which means pushing your way through your first couple of books. But if you get it, you feel the click and you start to glide you will feel so glad for it. What's it like? It's like my senior year in English Literature class . We were given Fahrenheit 451 to read one unit. After I applied the one sentence at a time technique I got so into it , i turned around and read the book a second time just for fun in my free time. To watch libraries finally be removed is going to be depressing. I hope it never happens. They represent a good thing that may be disappointing. 😪👎

Librevox does have a huge selection but my dislike is the readers. They are not professionals which is not a bad thing. My complaint is I haven't heard even one that has the ability to put some expression and emotion into their reading. Many only read in a monotone which distracts my attention to the book itself. A good reader allows you to get totally engrossed in the story and forget you are listening to someone reading. I have tried so many audios on the site which were great stories but I was distracted by the reader and couldn't enjoy the story. I would turn it off and sometimes find the same title on another site read by someone else.

I find it difficult to listen to the LibriVox books because the readers are too monotone. There are some good readers, but most lack energy and might as well be AIs.

Please, stop with the "music". It's not just unnecessary, it's actually distracting.
    Thanks.💐

I’m pretty happy that there are folks like this to remind people of the classics, but why not include in the title that this only applies to works in the public domain?
There are ways of easily getting copyrighted works downloaded if you prefer to cheat artists out of their due and those are only a second step beyond searching RUclips. I’m guessing a lot of the traffic here is people looking for a steal. Literally.
    😮
Be well, even to the thieves and fraudsters.
