    I have a New Diamond C just like yours except 40 ft, F350 - hitch ball is centered over axle , Smooth as glass even with a light load. Never any buck, Heavy suspension on Pickup plus the Heavy like yours on trailer, 14ply 16 inch tires though. trailer weight is around 8900 but I carry alot of rigging and chains. Absolutely Love my combination of truck and trailer ! You sold me on the trailer but it did take almost 3 months to get it custom built. You've got one of the Best channels going.

    To truly eliminate the variables load up that same exact load and tow it with the 5500. That will narrows it down scientifically to the truck vs the trailer. Really hope you get it figured buddy

    So I have a Diamond C also, mine is 38' deck and it bounces too! My issue is with the expansion joints in concrete roads, it turns into like a 'harmonic' affect which is much worse when tongue loaded! I also tow it with Ram 3500, but i think issue is with the trailer and not truck! At first I thought it was axle spacing between trailer and truck and they where setting up a balanced 'bump' between the two 'harmonics' but unless the expansion joints are equally spaced on every road, I don't think it's that! My second guess is the 'torque tube' creating the bounce to the rear of the truck. The torque tube absorbing the trailer axle shock from the bump and transmitting it forward to tongue bounce! My previous trailer had been PJ , shorter bed and no torque tube and I didn't experience the bouncing near as bad with it!
    If you know the people at Diamond C, it would sure be nice if you get their opinion on it and see if there is anything that can be done to help us! Was kind of wondering if that air bagged hitch attachment you have helped at all?

    I had the same problem with my goose, turned out the front of the trailer was a little to high when connected so most of the weight was on the rear tires regardless of load and tongue weight! So hitting a bump would load the front axle hard then unload causing a front to back (humping) motion !

  • @mattmullen5166
    @mattmullen5166 4 года назад +1

    The spring rate is designed for the max load. Need airbag suspension for the trailer to allow you to lower the rate when it has less axle load.

  • @sffabrications3872
    @sffabrications3872 4 года назад

    My guess it’s the hydro dovetail. Our has a nasty buck to it on any sort of bump. And it’s the build setup. Vs our old ramp set up without it. Chances are when you loaded it heavy, and chained the backhalf to the equipment is why the ride got better.

  • @HH-wu5dm
    @HH-wu5dm 4 года назад

    It could be the arch in the trailer I used to pull a 16 wheel low bed and a aluminum flat bed with arches if you don't get the load and weight just right it will beet you pretty bad. Even with air ride suspension on truck. Lowbed and and flatbed drivers learn how to load different loads and make it ride more comfortable. I think with the arch, it being a goose neck and the tail being longer and heavier makes it more violent. The three combined fight each other as it flexes while bouncing on the rough Cali roads. A longer trailer could help just like longer wheel base semi trucks ride smoother because the longer frame soaks up more of the rough ride. Plus the longer the deck the tail weight and length makes the fulcrum effect more in the favor of your drive axle on truck.

    My car trailer is a 20ft 10k tilt deck and it bucks pretty good when it's empty. When I first bought it, I was pretty upset about it. I've replaced the shocks on my truck for an unrelated issue, and that actually helped quite a bit. With weight on it, it rides like it's not even there.

  • @Jpope4x4

    Try swapping the tires from the old trailer to the new trailer and see if that makes a difference I say try that first before buying new tires because I had that issue before with an older trailer and it was the tires on the trailer

    lots of good comments and ideas. I would try same load between both truck to rule out the trailer or not. Softer suspension of the 3500 is likely absorbing the bounce that the 5500's stiffer suspension is reacting to. Airbags on the truck will help, but the bounce is likely coming from the trailer suspension and the engineered beam isn't allowing any flex through the trailer like the traditional frame does.
    I'd start off with the airbags on the truck, then consider shocks on the trailer axles.

    Sam, have you actually gone to the Cat scales at a truck stop and weighed your axles unloaded and loaded with various pieces of equipment. If not, doing so may help you determine precise placement of your equipment. You might also try to mount your camera under your chassis and aim it at the rear suspension of the truck. This could give you an idea of what is going on under there that may not be static loading but perhaps dynamic, unplanned forces.

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  4 года назад

    Not enough weight on trail suspension. And the 5500 has a stiffer rear spring. So when the load is forward the suspension isn’t really doing what it’s supposed to do. And I willing to bet your getting most of your bounce from side wall flex from your tires. Even though they are stiff side wall tires they still flex. And they just bounce and the suspension not working like it should cause it’s not under load. So since the 5500 has stiffer rear springs you are going to feel that motion transfer from the trailer through the chassis of the truck. Hope I explained well enough. And since trailer is new it may get better after time since rear trailer suspension still on the stiff side cause it’s new! Great video keep them coming.

  • @TheTsunamijuan
    @TheTsunamijuan 4 года назад +9

    When was the last time you did suspension on the 5500? My understanding is the shocks they put on most of the HD trucks only last 6 months or so cause of how poorly they are built.

  • @elcaminomant
    @elcaminomant 4 года назад

    Sometimes it may simply be the combination of the particular truck and trailer. By that I mean the spread between the rear axle on the truck and the front axle of the trailer is just perfect to get into a harmonics and it just goes from there. I used to pull a 38ft Rampage 5th wheel toy hauler with my CC/LB Duramax, it huck n bucked the living holy hell out of me wherever I went. Tried all sorts of things with the trailer suspension, pin box, truck suspension, etc. without much luck. Put any other 5th wheel or gooseneck on the truck and it towed excellent. Put that trailer on a short wheel base version of my truck or a Dodge or a Ford and it pulled fine. It was just the combination of my particular truck and trailer that made it tow that way. Maybe for you it could be the stiffer suspension and gooseneck ball location on the 5500 that cause it to huck n buck like that vs the 3500 or the old trailer on the 5500 with the shorter axle spread placement between the truck's rear axle?

    Hey Sam, if you wanted to you could probably fit a couple of 21" Craftsman push mowers on there as well.

  • @9feetup598
    @9feetup598 4 года назад

    Think your looking at the difference between the suspension on both trailers. The new one is stiff and new possibly heavier than the older one. So if it’s stiff maybe the rain plays a part. But not many trailers like this have shocks. I just think we are talking very unforgiving springs.

  • @camodrums
    @camodrums 4 года назад +1

    My thought is that the dovetail, when having nothing on it (having a tongue weight heavy load), is acting as a spring. That-combined with the flex and force resistance on your larger HD springs on the 5500 is causing an action-chain reaction due to the natural vibrating frequency thus causing the bounce effect. The 3500 doesn't have as heavy springs, so even with the same weight distrubution it will make for an easier ride since they are compressing more and don't have resistance like the larger 5500 springs do under the same load. Have you reached out to Diamond C on if others have had the same issue?

    I have a GenY hitch as well and I run about 600 miles a day with it. I have noticed that sometimes if I hit a bump at a certain speed, the GenY will amplify the bouncing. Don't know if this is what you're experiencing, but something to think about. About Dodge and their fuel economy, there is a rumor about Dodge working with Allison to create a 9 speed automatic transmission. I am excited and hopeful about that because it should definitely increase the fuel economy over the current 6 speed.

    I agree with most of the other post. Try the same load on the 5500. Also try swapping tires between old/new trailers. I know of one guy that keeps about 500 pounds on the tongue just to make the ride better.
    Isnt the 5500 about a foot shorter then the 3500? I had a 05 with the ball directly over the axle. 14 rolls of hay towed great. 15 (one on the neck) complete crap. Switched to an 06 with a b&w a few inches forward of axle, same loads both towed great.

  • @TooTallharley

    i have never towed that heavy. but one of the smaller trailers i had i had to play with the tires air pressure cause the side wall comp was different and had a much stiffer springier side wall. wound up dropping the pressure a bit and it was nicer ride.

    There are plenty of upgrades that can be made to your 4th gen to make it a towing beast with the emissions intact. Also would help out your fuel mileage and maybe even regen less, so less def usage. 4th gen dodges have an incredible aftermarket for making one hell of a truck. Sometimes I wish I would’ve just saved up and bought one instead of spending all my money on my 2nd gen.

    Without holding your bill fold out the window to solve problems, I think the way you'd have to swap the 5500 with the 3500 as soon as you noticed the difference in ride.........same load, same placement on trailer, just swap draggers right when you got home or what have you and try the other wagon the next day. Still so many variables it's like throwin spaghetti on the wall to speculate what's goin on. The engineered beam probably by design likely transfers a lot more of that shock smoothly throughout the frame rather than reducing it in the heavy stress points of a traditional 90⁰ gooseneck frame. That and the oober stout suspension of the 5500 gives less as to absorb shock than the 3500..........so aside from full air ride on the snowman and or selling it to me 🤣🤣🤣...........I think just go ultra badass with 100% tongue weight or 100% axle weight, or haul the 080 and the primetech together like a ultra badass..........no bouncy nowhere that way 😎😎😎🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, shoot there's a guy on this RUclips somethin er other website does this all the time, have to check my AOL notifications to make sure RUclips's is the right search engine if my dial up is detecting the wee-fee transmitternal back and forth arrows otherwise my floppy drive can't drive on my thumb..............that's what the computer kid said anyways

    Could it be the extra axle spacing of that trailer has more influence on the tongue? Maybe the shorter spacing behaves more like a single pivot point for weight transfer.

      I have a triple axle trailer. Had a blow out on the middle axle, took both wheels off as I didn't have any means to tie it up. Rocked pretty hard over bumps. I think it all to do with the spread of the axles, and influence on the tongue.

    show us the suspension on the new trailer. That might explain the rough suspension. If each wheel contributes to the bounce. Your old trailer has a single point of lift with each wheel providing half of the bounce. I'm suspecting that each axle on the new trailer is separate. I used to work for a company that built trailers. A torsion bar axle on each wheel can be rough when going across ridges.

    Another possibility is...my 99.5 F250 is set up with overload springs. My trailer is a 20ft 10K tandom axle bumper pull. The problem that I had was getting beat up when the trailer was empty. It turned out that the trailer empty tongue weight was enough to put the overload very close to the overload frame pad. Every time my suspension hit a small bump it was slapping the overload stop which gave the truck a harsh ride. Things were fine loaded. Could you be in that situation with the 5500?

      Ordered a 32 exactly like this months ago, picked it up 2 weeks ago. On the way home from the dealer the "upgraded" hyd jack left side fell to the ground, as in the foot flew off and everything, i strapped it up in the middle of the highway, but there isnt a good place to hook it, and before i got it back i had trouble with the strap flying off, talk about anxiety because the strap got under the tires and it yanked it up thru the hang grab and everything... anyways, I unhooked it the first time and the next day i noticed a puddle of oil under the right side leg, it was leaking tranny fluid from the hyd reservoir.
      And yes my trailer tail bounces also, but i havent even used it enough to form an opinion yet
      I also am the only one to EVER have an issue, funny cause there were plenty of other trailers at the dealer but im sure i got the only bad one in north america. So im waiting to go take it back to have it fixed under warranty unless they salt the roads, then it will be fixed in the spring. Diamond C is in my opinion the best or i wouldnt have bought it, but im still waiting for that to be proven
