What is Exocytosis?

Exocytosis is an active process by which substances are moved out of a cell. A vesicle or vacuole containing the substance within the cell fuses with the cell membrane and then releases its contents. The process is essentially the opposite of Endocytosis (see the Endocytosis video tutorial here - • What is Endocytosis? )
