- With crypto dropping 40% in a couple of weeks, I talk about why most investors will lose money at some point in their investing journey.

I think a lot of new investors entering into the crypto and stock markets are going to lose a lot of money if they are trading with the sole focus of making a lot of money quickly.
There's a chance that crypto - mostly Bitcoin, Ethereum, and a handful of alt coins - has hit a top and will take time to recover. Not every investor has the ability to hold for long periods of time.
I'm very bullish on Bitcoin and Ethereum and I'm confident a few alt coins are going to be valuable projects in the future, but it's still too early to tell. Some savvy investors are going to make a lot of money in this crypto market.
In this video, I share many examples of investors losing money and why it's inevitable that all investors will lose money at some point.
It's not the end of the world. One step back. Two steps forward.

From personal experience, equally as important: cut out the people who will not let your past losses go! Some of them continue to wallow in _your_ past mistakes because _they_ haven't seen the level of success and/or satisfaction that you've obtained. I have a relative (now estranged for obvious reasons) who keeps reminding me how I'll always be a failure because my family lost money in the past. Never mind that we've since more than doubled our net worth.

As a person with common sense, I tell newcomers this, don't invest money you really need, don't expect quick gains, and DO NOT SELL on a dip, ever, even if takes a year to recover, this is an investment not a get rich quick scheme. EDIT: It's one of the best investments you can do right now IMO. Oh edit2: Don't use leverage....

Harder than it sounds as these new investors are uneducated with crypto and are mostly bandwagons who invest without research. Most will panic sell as u know crypto is filled with FUD. The hardest part i have come across with crypto is holding long term
@@UT3610 I care not for new investors, someone has to lose money in the market for others to make money so in a sense I'm glad this happens, don't mean to sound too harsh but I'd rather be on the winning side and I'm willing to help and learn from those who care to listen or give advice.

I was once new as well with crypto and long term hold was difficult because i had that mindset of getting rich quick. @@UT3610 Yeah, very true, it's easy to get emotions involved but the ones who get good at investing are the ones that remain consistent and logical. I agree that a lot of people come to crypto to get rick quick but once DOGE doesn't go up 1000x they give, when in reality crypto can get you rich fairly quickly but you gotta play it smart. In my opinion 5-10 years is not a bad timeframe to get rich and in crypto that's very possible, gotta hold long term like you say, and buy on the dips.

The greatest investment advice I’ve received was from one of my Business Professors at university. Essentially, invest a little bit each paycheck, and never look at your account. (Except yearly, for maintenance.) You should be in it for the long haul, not the short term.

Personally I don’t invest in something I can’t see where it could go. Central banks around the world are considering their own crypto, which will be less volatile. In my 8 years of experience, investors mostly don’t like high volatility, so this will be appealing. Governments are moving towards either regulating it (which defeats its purpose) or banning it. I’m not saying it’s going to go down or anything. I’m just saying for someone like me, it’s like gambling. Simply because I personally can’t see a clear-ish trajectory.
I’d rather invest in blockchain technology and the companies that are working in the sphere. I can see that it will be integral for smart cars, IoT, and streamlining almost every industry. MIT (the one example I’m very familiar with, but obviously many more examples) is working with governments to integrate blockchain into their country’s infrastructure. It’s taking a few years to roll out, but it’s roll out is becoming more and more clear and inevitable.

You probably weren’t less intelligent, scammers just know how to get us, I’ve been scammed a couple of times and lost a lot - all of the money I had at the time, I know how it feels, good thing is that it gets better though, learn from your mistake and keep pushing forward

@@HJohal Of course. Well I was referred to a guy who was apparently paying bills and child support for a quarter or half of the percent off. We were under the impression that he needed quick cash, for emergency purposes, and was not able to withdraw the proper amount due to his Paypal withdraw limit. So therefore, he was paying bills that could only be paid through wire transfers and collecting cash payments to supplement. Initially I thought it was a scam but I was like what kind of scammer would offer to pay bills because he's not profiting. Maybe from the information, which could be changed, but not financially, right? I know he needed the account information but I could easily change the username and password information shortly thereafter, right? So like an idiot, I gave it to him - my credit card mobile app information. I thought to myself, "He's not going to be able to use my card because I obviously don't have any money to spend on it (it's maxed out) and he can't steal my information because he would have access my 2-step verification confirmation.
He asked for half the money for a deposit, in which I understood as a risk, and the other half after the payment completely went through so I gave him the deposit. Shortly thereafter, my account was paid! I was like, "WoW you're a miracle, you've really helped me!" He was like,"Yeah, I'm just trying to be the best man I could be and do God's true work."...... Now, we fast forward and ppl start calling me and telling me that their payments were not going through and when they were calling companies the companies were telling them that the payments were being cancelled, reported, or what have you. Then I called him, and he gave me an elaborate story on how someone tried to go behind his back and use his card to make a payment and he had to cancel the account and repay everything. Right then, I knew he was scamming but mine went through so I was like maybe he did right by me and wronged everyone else until I woke up a couple of nights ago.

I love the comment you made about the best investment ultimately being in yourself. I lost 140k when gold crashed in 2016, which was everything I had - but I wouldn't have gotten there if I didn't study the market. Im still recovering, and the journey continues :-)
How the fuck could you lose everything by owning gold? Were you highly leveraged? Gold is a shit investment, but losing everything on it makes no sense.

You only lose when you sell. Unless you bought paper gold on margin.
But if you look at the 2016 year the gdx had a huge run and then tanked in the same year and had been more or less down ever since - that's what I'm referring to. And yes I did use margin, but not that much, I just got really lucky that I was invested in companies like FF.V or Brazil resources back when then were at 70 cents and 35 cents respectively. They both rallied well before crashing in 2016.
I always think about this when people say "well if you just invested in this company 10 years ago, you'd be rich!". I don't think a lot of people hold at the first sign of loss or even at the first sign of a decent profit.
Most people just don't have the emotional discipline, or is planning for the long game. They sell at the firstt sign of trouble.

The problem is "this company" is usually a company that was just like any other random startup company ten years ago. Only hindsight would've told you that you should've invested in "this company" ten years ago. It would be like asking someone to invest in a company now that'll become a dominant force in 2031; how many people can accurately pick that company?
@@doccholo905 Well, imagine you buy tesla 5y ago, you finally made 10x in one year, and drop to 5x in 1 month, what do you do? You slap yourself you didn't sell, the emotion of losing is much stronger.

It's good to see you coming around to a more well-rounded perspective. There's still too much hype from even the finance RUclipsrs who seem too "nice" to criticize, but the truth is they are still more interested in monetizing views than providing well-rounded perspective; they are still being used by the machine as tools to herd the sheep. Robinhood was the best example of this.
You lost 120k in real estate, you said. Does that mean real estate is just a "scheme"? No. Of course not. In 2008, MILLIONS lost money on real estate. Were they all just "schemers"? Some were, but most were honest people. People who invested in gold are losing money out the ass. Where's your video on THEM? The most imprtant lesson i've learned, which is important to know for any one starting out with investing, is only put in what you can afford to loose and never borrow to try and reclaim your losses. You will burn only if you treat investing as gambling.

Speaking of Enron, I have a family friend that lost his entire retirement fund with them. He currently has a successful roofing company but said it was a tough time. He lost his retirement, he was out a job, and his father's pension was caught up in the collapse so he had to move in with the family friend and his wife. All and all it was a tough time for his family but they pulled through.

Investing is all about risk management and securing profits. Most investors dont practice this so they lose money. Crypto in particular can be VERY lucrative if you know what youre doing...i mean REALLY know what youre doing. But that usually isnt the case for more casual investors. So most lose money. Like any craft, you need to practice it.

Dude, do NOT lump in Bitcoin with those other things. Buying a Bitcoin dip is a LEGITIMATE way to earn LONG-TERM wealth, especially if you HODL. I certainly agree that speculating, day-trading, and selling after a short-term can be disastrous, but buying and holding for decades is a very prudent strategy. For most Bitcoiners, it's NOT about "getting rich quick" -- rather, it's about investing in a unique network, a unique technology, a proven cryptocurrency. Just listen to Michael Saylor, Anthony Pompliano, and so on. Even if you disagree with them, Bitcoin is NOT a scam, so shame on you for starting your video IMPLYING that it is.

Best way to "make" money is to use an ad blocker .... ie don't spend money on things you don't need. No matter your salary, its amazing how much you can accumulate just by not buying useless junk

You may wanna educate yourself before you make a bogus statement like that. I’m 99% sure you don’t know the basics of cryptocurrency much less what a blockchain is.

@@jf3028 The theory sounds nice, the application just reminds me of stock markets prior to government regulation. From the opening of the NYSE some 200 years ago, the US economy saw some 20 or so crashes, all influenced by things even as trivial as having the US debt fully paid by Andrew Jackson...

Nice argument from authority. Even if you don’t care about the technology or believe in it, how can you say crypto can’t be an investment? Bitcoin is up 300% and ethereum is up 1000% and that’s after this big dip. And we’re just talking about this year.
Also, how is your age relevant to the discussion?
If you get a steady job and invest in like a 401k, you probably won't lose money. You might not make millions, but you can be financially comfortable. You need to define success before you start, or you'll always be climbing.

These are not investors, these are speculators, gamblers who are looking for the big win & don't care about what they put their money into so long as it pays out big. Investing is nurturing a good idea to help it grow and make something worth making. Big difference.

Point of above text is whether it’s business , investing , or life in general you’re gonna take losses. It’s about pushing forward no matter what , thank you for sharing that losses exist and are inevitable, but we gotta keep pushing forward !!
I bought 5 bitcoin when it was being trading at $1100 and I sold one at the peak in 2017. Im a long term holder so the markets dropping it's meh for myself.
I also bought eth at $358, I'm still up lol.

this business is for big boys, I'm buying bitcoin since 5 years ago and I never have sold any single satoshi and I won't sell it and near future. Now bitcoin is down but it will go up soon, like always.

As long as you hodl long enough you will win. The problem is that most people wont hold long enough. Bitcoin is not going anywhere.

Dollar cost average into crypto….it is an asset class not the entire investment. Put your eggs in different investment baskets. I am still up in crypto but honestly got lucky with MATIC and DOGE. I sold most of the Doge and put it into better more legit coins. Own land, rentals, stocks, bonds and crypto. 15 years into my career and I am finally making decent money…over night is nice but nothing here was overnight it is a grind. Now I sit on my farm and work from home.
Losing alot of money is good experience, if you learn from it. However, buying the virtual coins and waiting for returns based on hypes is a huge risk.
Nah im not ever losing money. Not selling til i gain, i'll wait. New crypto investor here.
