@Trixthor you can always tell who arent educated in these types of arts. I agree, something so simple as connecting your elbow to the knee stops the triangle atempt so effectively......
good point. most guys are like "yeah it's like those Japanese have a different word for everything" .... rofl. gee they invented it after all. go figure.
I've never understood the objection to passing under the leg like this. I've had lots of guys try to throw the triangle, but as long as you control the hips and stack properly it's not happening. The trick is not to abandon this pass as "useless" too early in your training.
@MarcusDBrutus You can also pass their leg up and over your head, slamming their leg to the ground passing the guard. In this case, you've used their attempt at a triangle to open a guard pass.
I will make a video and will show you the mistakes bjj'er make. I will also show you never to close the guard, and how to escape triangle choke from the guard
it does seem that there is a risk of triangle but he keeps his arm and body well back as he scoops the leg then quickly stacks crushing any sub attempt possibilities but thats a very lazy guard a more active guard would pose more danger for that type of pass
Many commentators here mistake "instructional video" with "real fight video". When teaching a child how to read, you do not give him the "Iliad" and say: read it for your examination next week. We teach simple words that he can relate to his daily life. Eventually, he will be able to read any piece of literature.
its the basic guard pass in Judo AND BJJ. lol Gracie jiujitsu does the same pass at 2:20 seconds- ruclips.net/video/2_ggyEfMduI/видео.html No threat if you your posture is high and you keep the other knee pinned he cant close the triangle.
some technics (2:58) in martial arts doesnt works in streets,in real fight, works in tournament, that is the problem with the martial arts nowadays, its styles for competition not for streets anymore, see the interview with royce grace , type in youtube: royce gracie interview 1/22/08.

@MarcusDBrutus Not really, this is generally the first guard pass you learn in BJJ.

Man I wish i could understand japanese.
It does look like if you mess this up you are easily triangled.
seems kinda risky
helio gracies teaches the same passes, no threat as long as youre controlling one of the legs/knee(to prevent them for locking in the triangle.
That's a triangle buffet...

Blah blah blah, look better at the details. You don't have the time neither the space to set up a triangle from the guard.
