    Prior to Ada walking in, Diana sees her outside and says "So she dresses well" and asks the butler to find out what kind of jacket she's wearing. Then, in a bout if insecurity, she gets out the vase to do what she did with Lizzie - assert dominance by showing how smart she is (I hated how she treated Lizzie 😭)
    But Ada begins to talk about the background of the vase etc and asserts dominance right back. A true Shelby.

    • @andro99991
      @andro99991 3 месяца назад +2

      I didn't hate it. Lizzie is the most boring female character on the show, good or bad. There is nothing remarkable about her, no wit, no personality - she's just there all the time. Shelby probably married her because he was blaming himself for the death of his first wife so he married/spent time with this one as a form of self-punishment.

      Most of season 2 only happened because of Tommy's lust for more money and territory that he didn't need. The show doesn't really hide that his personal drive is what allows him to achieve great things, but also pushes him to make, frankly, pointless and idiotic risks.

    I think this is foreshadowing for Ada becoming the new head of Shelby Company Ltd. She’s always been witty but we never actually learned what she did for the company when she was in the US. Yes she became Tommy’s political advisor in S5 but she was clear in s6e1 that she didn’t work for them anymore. She steps in here when needed, and I think we’re all worried for what’s going to happen to Tommy. What other scenario is she going to have to “step in” for? 😢

Also, you forget Polly raised her. She is not "taking" Polly's line. For sure she would not have had so much screentime to shine if Polly was here, but that spark was always there. Diana Mosley would never have acted in such a way. She was bred like a lot of her class to be bemused, but privately disrespect of those seen as lower than her. She dismissed Hitler's 'misdeeds' with a smile and a 'butwhatabout' until her death. I am delighted to see her portrayed as a salacious louche, such a fate is very fitting for her.

    People have to remember that Ada had to step up now that her Aunt Polly is gone.
    So yes some of her lines are going to seem off because the writers are having her act like Polly. It's going to fill the missing space the character left behind. However If Ada's character gradually becomes a little bit more like her Aunt over the course of the season her lines might be believable later. It will just show Ada learned a lot from her aunt.
    Regardless, Diana is lucky she got Ada instead of Polly. Better to have a equal than knowing your already out macted. Polly isn't too subtle about her dislike towards people and she'll let you know if you should look over your shoulder if you cross her.

    This convo also showed the differing priorities between the Mosley’s and Thomas. The American was running late, Mosley didn’t want to meet because Thomas wasn’t coming. Thomas wasn’t coming because he wanted to tend to Ruby’s illness. This is meaningless to Diana as she’s more focused on “ruling the world” but we all know how that ended for her.

    1:27 Of course Diana Mitfords father never sent her to school.
    Her sister Unity went to several (she's the one who fell in love with Hitler and shot herself when war was declared - apparently Mosely found her embarrassing though she shared his and Diana's beliefs), and kept on getting expelled (though apparently their mother insisted it was phrased 'asked to leave'), one of her sisters said she didn't really do anything that bad, the schools just never wanted to keep her.
    Apart from that and their brother, the Mitford sisters were pretty much just left to take French lessons with their governess and to read books in the families library. Nancy Mitford criticised as well as playfully poked fun at this in her book 'The Pursuit of Love'. In case anyone's wondering, Nancy was not a Fascist or a Nazi (beyond going to a few party meetings when it was a new thing and then loosing interest before seeing the devastating effect of it on the world years later) - she hated Molsely and dedicated an entire book to satirising him and his party, Wigs on the Green. She and Diana didn't speak for years afterwards.
    Another sister, Jessica, was a Communist who ran off to America and wrote books as well. One of the older sisters, Pamela, apparently went to a dinner party with her mother hosted by a lot of German fascists but apparently she spent most of the evening discussing recipes. The youngest's political beliefs I don't know, but apparently she liked Mosely (don't know if that meant personally or politically) - Deborah, the one who became the Duchess of Devonshire and an in-law to the Kennedy's.
