    Unlike a lot of rocket armed 1st round picks who dont really know how to play the postion and rely on their traits, Purdy actually knows how to play QB. Most 1st rounders stand back in pocket or evade the rush until they see a man open and drill the ball into the WR. Purdy leads his WR and throws to voids where they look "wide open" against zone. Against man he is cocking back to throw before his man even makes his break. This makes his throws look "wide open" against man because the DB hasnt even had a chance to react to the WR cut by the time the ball is in the air. It takes an extreme level of bravery and confidence to let those throws rip. As long as he keeps up this level of anticipation he will continue lighting the league on fire.

    •  6 месяцев назад +12

      @@seanscott Absolutely. Neither Montana nor Young threw to guys brought in from the street, as an idea, by instinct. In the WCT system perfected by Walsh, he threw the ball to a certain Rice, for example. Brady didn't become who he was by improvisation either. But you could list all the great QBs. I feel sorry for those who don't see what this guy is doing, they are missing out on a great experience. They don't really understand football. They miss the start of a historic career. But they know. I think the D's of the teams already feel what is coming against them if they have to play against Purdy.

He has the intellect, the cool under pressure and the physical abilities to make the progressions and get the ball to exactly where it needs to be. This guy is fantastic! The 49ers use a lot of motion. That means defensive assignments change when players move. Where as a linebacker might be covering a 3, that 3 they are covering can change if motion happens. The Eagles couldn't process the defensive assignment changes. Their defense has been a weak point and it comes out in these games with someone like Shanahan who uses a lot of motion to confuse players.

      That is a good playstyle comp, but I think talent wise he's Tony Romo. They both have a high level of escapability in the pocket. Very underrated athleticism but not fast. They both had arm related reasons for which they were weren't drafted or drafted late, but they eventually improved their deficiencies until they became a non-issue (Purdy arm strength, Romo accuracy). They both have superb vision to find the open man within the play and the elite instincts to make plays outside the system. Was Romo ever the best QB in football? No, but he was always in the top 5 conversation and certainly in the top 10 without question. Purdy on this unbelievable niners squad would be like Romo on those stacked Manning Broncos teams where Romo would definitely be in the MVP conversation.

    Downplaying Purdy by using Shanahan system as an excuse is just media nonsense. All our previous QBs under Shanahan including Jimmy G didn’t execute his system this well. Jimmy G was the Niners’ best okayest QB. He helped the Niners become relevant again. I think Purdy’s gun-slinger mentality drives Shanahan crazy since he’s such a stickler to his process (in order to set up for future plays during the game).

    • @SuspensionTruth
      @SuspensionTruth 6 месяцев назад +1

      That's a very interesting comment. To see how KS schemes out a series of plays - as the best offensive coordinators do - is brilliant. He wants to see how the defense plans to handle the 49ers offense. Purdy does go through his reads and sometimes - when things break down, especially when an OL gets beat (right side esp.) - he has to improvise, or take a sack. I think he hates being sacked more than he does making a potentially bad throw. A bad throw in a big game could be a big problem but he seems more composed and decisive now than last year. We can see he's also very mobile. I think Purdy is humble enough to listen to his coach and then baller enough to trust his gut in the heat of the moment. Imagine if the 9ers right side OL gets stronger then the execution of the plays gets easier. What Purdy does to beat the blitz is already unreal. This young man is special.

    • @johnhoover3345
      @johnhoover3345 5 месяцев назад

      How can you call Purdy a gun slinger? If a pass play is called, he passes the ball. I've not seen him audible a damn thing. Purdy trusts Shanny implicitly and the system he's created. With the success the Niners/Brock have had running it last year and this year, you'd be a fool to try to improvise like Hurts or Mahommes does. He'll only runs if it's the last option and rarely throws into tight coverage, hence the lack of picks.

    @barryellsworth 6 месяцев назад +1

    The problem in the beginning wasn't Purdy's or anyone else on the field. They don't call the plays. It was all on Shanan. He was calling crap plays. They do well when they run pass plays with lots of people running crossing patterns on the field. Shanahan was calling runs straight up the middle when that is where the Eagles are the strongest. As soon as he started calling slant runs to the left and right, they worked. He also needs to come up with more option plays with Purdy and the front line and at least one runner moving to one side or the other to take pressure off the midfield forcing the defense to defend against the run leaving the option for a pass downfield or a run to the side.

    This Brock kid is one hell of a game manager if that is what people think, he manages to go through his progressions like clockwork, and makes Jimmy G look like a third-string QB.
    In reality, he is no game manager, he is primarily a pocket QB, with scrambling skills, he can throw on the run, he can get yards with his feet, and he does not panic.
    He can also do naked bootlegs, just like Joe, they are a thing of beauty.

      Jimmy is a 3rd string QB. He's proven that without a doubt once out of the system and not given top notch blocking and a run game that takes all the pressure away. JG is the bar is set incredibly low and does nothing to elevate what Purdy is doing. It just shows that this is the easiest QB job in the NFL.
      That's not a knock on Purdy, who is playing the hand he is dealt, but it is what it is. On the other hand, when put into must pass situations, Purdy was exposed and hence the 3 game losing streak without a single come from behind success. This exposed his limits and brings up a lot of doubt over how he'd succeed in a harder QB job where he needs to pass into pass defenses to win.

      All of that makes this the easiest QB job in the league, which makes it easier to illustrate what the QB reads are all about. Not that QB is easy for any team at the NFL level. Relative to the other 31 team situations there are no easier QB jobs due to the system and surrounding talent.

    "The league is going to figure out Purdy".... they said the same exact thing about Kurt Warner, that the league will figure him out. No, Brock is, like Warner, unusual. I have watched "the system" for the last 6 or 7 years, and Brock made more good reads in the last few weeks than all of the other 49er QB's have made, combined, for the rest of the Shannahan era. I have said myself that due to his relatively week arm, db's will cheat up, and make it harder to work in the 5 to 30 yard space that he is living in. But I was wrong. He just keeps making really good reads, and than accurately puts the ball where one of his 5 weapons can easily catch and run with it. Get used to the hype, he's going to be around for a long time. Funny thing, if say he got drafted by another team, without a really good system, like Warner, we would have never heard of Brock Purdy. But the stars lined up, talent, sytem, AND unusually ability, and we might be watching a hall of fame qb.

    Brock would get more props if he didn’t step into such a strong team to begin with. Every QB has shined once they didn’t get injured and had time with the system.

    Purdy’s anticipation and his ability to throw open receivers cannot be understated. I cant believe people compare this guy to Mac Jones and Jimmy G. Not to say those guys are terrible QB’s but they’re not on Purdy’s level. People that say he’s just getting carried by this Niners team don’t know ball. Jimmy G had this same talented roster and never consistently put 30+ up a game.

    Reminds me of Steve Young. They are the best in the league and will be playing Miami in the Superbowl and the 49ers will win it.
    (I would say Montana, but he had time to smoke a cigarette in the pocket his offensive line was so good.)

    I do.
    I’m a Steelers fan and he is arguably the best QB for a well structured offense. I’d take Purdy over Mahomes for a well structured team. The 49ers are probably in the SB if Purdy didn’t get hurt.

      I think it's mostly based on 49ers history of running those routes with CMC. It wouldn't really be possible to know on any given play without inside knowledge.

    • @TapeAnalysis
      @TapeAnalysis  6 месяцев назад

      49ers commonly use option routes w/ CMC, and you can tell by the way runs up and sputters his feet. He's trying to see where the the LBs leverage is, so he can go the opposite way. When the QB & guy running an option route are on the same page, it's pretty much unguardable.

      Accurate + Anticipation is really hard to defend as a defense lol. When doing it at a high level like Purdy w/ the weapons the niners have, it's almost impossible

    lol he ain’t reading shit. I haven’t seen him manipulate the defense at all. What’s funny is he missed several primary reads and hot/adjuster routes but completed the pass so it goes unnoticed. (See play @9 min mark) This is all the OC only a matter of time before they figure him out. Not saying he isn’t solid but he definitely isn’t making defensive reads. Shanahan is giving him plays where he looks primary to secondary running into his line of site.
