Ken I just subscribed,because I saw your Lucy Thomas reaction.If you really want to be impressed,listen to “I’ll never love again” or “Run”Lucy was even younger than when she sang , Hallelujah.
Lucy’s cover of ‘Hallelujah’ is the most beautiful thing I have heard in my 73 years. More recently she did a cover of an iconic rock ballad, Aerosmith’s ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’, and she absolutely knocks it out the park.
There are many great singers on RUclips, but a few of Lucy's covers are the only ones where I have used the taboo phrase; "better than the original". A good example is Lucy's version of "Somewhere - West Side Story". It's easily the best version of that song ever recorded.

There are a handful of great songs that were covered by talented people but couldn't convey the lifetime of regret, sorrow, or pleading mercy that take those songs to a special place. Even Cohen's old songs like Suzanne weren't as good until Leonard got older his voice deepened and he managed to express lament in his voice.
The point about where do you look. I get an impression that Lucy is actually living the story in her head as she sings. Watch her eyes when she sings, ‘you saw her bathing on the roof’.

Not easy to break records but Lucy Thomas had fastest 1 million views on RUclips in history for her version of 'Hallelujah'. Carrie Underwood personally congratulated Lucy for her amazing performance. Song has 30 million views now.
"Hallelujah" was 1st song I heard from Lucy. I nearly fell out of my chair. I could not believe my eyes or ears. Had to play it a dozen more times to be sure. I was totally floored. How did this girl make all that incredible vocal sounds.
I have over a decade singing and acting. I know talent when I see and hear it. Lucy Thomas is the Real Deal. She doesn't rely on fancy video edits, vocal 'enhancements', or hide in studio making records. Lucy is performing this song Live with 1 mic, 1 camera, and 1 take start to finish. Lucy has something many other RUclips artists lack .... Lucy has REAL TALENT and she is not afraid to use it.
Check out how Lucy uses the shape of her mouth to change the character of her vocals when she starts her crescendo at 2:40 mark in song. From that point on, it is as if the Angels in Heaven were singing the song. I have never seen that done to such a degree in my life. Still floors me every time I hear it again.
Lucy uses EVERY part of her musical instrument; mouth, lips, tongue, throat, vocal cords, lungs, and diaphragm. There is no note too high, too long, or too loud. On top of that, Lucy's 'Physical' performance adds much emotion to the song. The audience actually becomes part of Lucy's story telling via her singing.
I wish I could have been the label to sign her... Cavendish Records made the business decision to sign her right after Kids Voice - UK at age 14. They have never looked back. They are carefully managing her so she has an entire lifetime career singing. The execs love her, the sound engineers love her. She makes all their lives easy.
Perfect pitch, multi-octave vocal range, cross genre appeal, vibrato that doesn't vary more than a quarter note up or down off base note. She can hold notes so long that the audience wants to take a breath for her, plus incredible physical performance skills. This puts our young lady at the top of the top on RUclips today. What's not to love about Lucy Thomas and her incredible voice. Best part, she is just warming. Every song is better than the last. I could easily write a book about each of her songs.

Hallelujah was the first song i heard Lucy sing, it just randomly popped up on you tube and never having heard of her and not being religous for some unknown reason clicked on it and WOWSER !!!!!! she grabbed my attention. as an old guy that grew up with good quality music the crap being pawned off as entertainment today left me cold decades ago but Lucy and Martha have restore hope people can still sing !!! I watched Hallelujah about 4 times then went down the rabbit hole and clicked on a new song and another and another and 4 hours later, exhausted stopped watching, but I was hooked, researched and ordered all three cd's she had out and ore ordered the fourth when announced and have throughly enjoyed the experience.

RUclips sent a link for 'Hallelujah' by Lucy Thomas, who I never heard of. Clicked link and it changed me forever. No one will beat Lucy's version... ever.
Pentatonix does still have great music too. Their recent release of 'The Prayer' is best I ever heard. I doubt it will ever be beat.. ever.

Hi, now that you have seen how good Lucy is I strongly suggest you check out her version of The Prayer sung with her younger sister Martha. IMHO it is out of this world. Martha is six years younger than Lucy but performs so well with Lucy’s guidance and loving support.

Ken, you don't need to say anything about this piece; your body language along with facial reactions (eyes and smile) show what you are feeling. The same applies to Lucy, her body language really adds a lot to this video. You failed to mention her vibrato; it just goes on and on and on; very even and oh so pleasant. 30 million views in 2 years on this video.

Yes, 16 here and utterly amazing. Been following her for over 3 years now. You should hear her at ages 10 & 14 covering Snow Patrol's "Run"! Mindblowing! She's released three CD's -- "Premiere," "Encore," and "Timeless." I have an autographed copy of "Timeless," which I've played to death in my car. This song is on it. She made all three CD's from ages 14 to 17. She has just turned 19 (if angels actually do have birthdays!). Lucy has been singing for a long time and the maturity of her voice is truly mind blowing. Lucy has done over 50 covers and each one is a masterpiece. Her voice, talent, dedication, and purity is second to none and she is also gorgeous. I think Lucy is in a league of her own. She is very special and beyond compare. Ken be advised Lucy has been singing since she was 6 years old, her mother and Grandmother and 5 year younger sister all sing. Lucy appeared on the UK's Kids Voice at 13 singing Moon River and made it to the semi finalist, was signed to a record deal at 14 and released her first CD shortly after by Cavendish Records, and she is working with Chris Broom co producing and starring in the soon to open Musical in west London ROSIE> She has released 5 original songs associated with the musical, they are BROKEN DREAMS, at 18 and at 15 STARLIGHT SUDDENLY, GENTLE BREEZE, All as dress rehearsals and a studio first original ONE DAY at 14 !!!! She has 8 songs recorded with her sister THE CLIMB, THE PRAYER, OH HOLY NIGHT, WHEN YOU BELIEVE, YOU RAISE ME UP AND when Martha was 10 ARMS OF THE ANGLE AND SAY SOMETHING.. Right there with you. I'm similar age, have heard a lot of music in my life and Lucy inspires chills and tears (and sometimes a deep gut reaction) on practically everything she does.
@@BlackCloud82 I have watched this song about 50 times, and have all her CD which I play in the Car on the top quality BOSE system and I still get the chills when Lucy sings. she is incredible, Stunning and what talent she has and yet such a humble person, such rare qualities today. she is usually the only singer I will listen to most all others are a waste of time. Well....... here we are 6 months later and he has not done another of Lucys songs !!!! Look at all the suggestions given, and IF we are to believe him that he liked what he herd why just a one song and done ??? Well we go look at what he has reacted to in the last year and we get our answer !!!! Lucy is too good for him !!!! He seems to like the weird, wild crazy crap that has been pawned off as modern entertainment for decades !!! Truly an up and coming great. "Rosie" the musical is set to open in London West End in 2024 starring Lucy Thomas and they are thinking of making it into a movie. Ken, Lucy had you from the get-go. You made an almost inaudible 'hmmm' after just a few words. Lucy can do that to you. Also, her vibrato was even able to levitate your arms and made you say "oh my goodness".

Lucy has so many great songs accenting her vocal prowess. Her cover of Eva Cassidy's "Over The Rainbow." is phenomenal. Additionally, Lucy strays from her classical style and just slays "At Last". The duet with her sister Martha of "The Prayer" will give you chills. The list is never ending. Your knowledge and ability to analyze music will make you a believer.

Lucy is such a talent that we should be grateful to be able to enjoy amongst the mediocrity that passes for entertainment in this day and age.
I haven't been so moved by a singing voice since I heard Morgan James version of this song a couple of years back and highly recommend anyone who wants to hear once in a lifetime talent.

I highly recommend checking out Lucy's covers of "She Used To Be Mine" "Clown" "Run" and "I'll Never Love Again" from when she was around 14 which makes them even more impressive. I don't know the correct technical terms for it but her control, rhythm/timing and nuance is crazy good. She makes everything sound so effortless and genuine.

Hi Ken, I've just revisited this reaction to Lucy Thomas singing when she was 16. I was wondering if you have followed her development since then to see how she has developed. It would be great to get your reaction to her version of "Evergreen", originally sung by Barbra Streisand in the movie A Star Is Born. Professional musicians seem to think that this cover by Lucy is her most accomplished performance to date and will give you an idea of how far she has come in 3 years. All the best.

Times change and so does the interpretations of a classic song. In 2016, Pentatonix recomposed song and performed it A cappela complete with Hollywood style video and delivery style. It was an instant hit and really launched the group into stardom.
16 year old Lucy Thomas comes along, keeps the words, and totally recomposes the musical score. She performed with 1 mic, 1 camera, 1 take start to finish. Lucy doesn't need to rely on gimmicks, she used actual talent instead. Her performance was also an instant hit and launched her into stardom.
The very same happened with "Over The Rainbow". Judy Garland performed it in 'The Wizard Of Oz'. Much later, Eva Cassidy recomposed the musical score and had a giant hit. Lucy Thomas takes both versions and recomposes a brand new musical score. It too becomes a another giant hit for Lucy Thomas.
We need to be careful whenever we cover classic songs. Does it respect the original artist, does it add or take away from the original. When an artist comes along who is every bit as good or even better than original artist we take note.
