This video idea is so lovely! I didn't respond to your poll, but I also read Betsy-Tacy because of you, and I love them! Oh and Deerbrooke, Silas Marner, Maud: the Illustrated Diary of a Victorian Lady, and the Maisie Dobbs series too 😊 You've added so much richness to many people's reading lives!
I mean I traveled to Deep Valley 😅 because of YOU. You have so enriched my reading life. Yes, I’m gushing, but it’s true. 🤓♥️🌷😂 I didn’t even remember many of these that I read…we LOVED Christmas on Mill Street! 😄🥰♥️
It was so sweet of you to send me some goodies from your visit!! I have your tea towel hanging on my oven. So glad your family enjoyed Christmas On Mill Street together!
I loved that you described books as “delicious”-not once but three times!! It was just like AOGG, describing herself as “deliciously scared” of the walk through the woods! 😊❤
You inspired me to read so many books, Kate! The ones that stand out to me the most are: The Betsy Tacy series, The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill, Agnes Gray and so many Cinderella stories 🤩🌟 Thank you so much! 🥰❤🌸💕
Add another vote for “Lady Audley’s Secret”. I was aware of the novel as THE Sensation Novel but your video pushed me to finally read it. I quite enjoyed it.
I took my kids to see P. Pollaco close to 20 years ago. We love her and her books! I remember letting the kids pick out whichever book of hers they wanted after seeing her and it was fun to see which ones they picked!
I just got The Heir of Redclyffe from the library because of you, so looking forward to it. So glad you love Miss Read; I think her Thrush Green series is even better, so you have some good reading ahead of you.
I'm so pleased your library had a copy. I hope you love it! I have actually read a couple out of the Thrush Green series and liked them better so I'm very excited to continue.
Such a fabulous video! I do not use Instagram, so it was very fun and surprising at how many books you have inspired me to read too! I just poured myself a cup of tea and I think I may have to re-watch this💙 Thank You
Oh I have read it and loved it! I think I didn't do a good job explaining- I'm just scared to reread it after J*** the Obscure has forever ruined my view of Hardy.
Not sure if I told you I started reading Gaskell because of you. Working my way through them all. I think part of why I love your channel is I seem to love the same books you love though many of these authors are new to me. Love discovering new to me authors!
I read the Betsy Tracy series because of you and loved it. Also Emily of Deep Valley was just the best! I have loved the books in the Kindred Spirits Group! Many books I have read that you talked about and it made me reread them and think about them! I also enjoy the Miss Read series and George Elliot (Adam Bede is my favorite), and Elizabeth Gaskell. I love your channel! I loved Agnes Gray and a Town Like Alice too.
I didn't see the poll or the instagram post, so I'll put my two cents in here. You convinced me to read Michael D. O'Brien's The Lighthouse. It was a wonderful novel. Thanks Kate!
totally enjoyed this video! Have you read any of Susan Howatch's books? Two that I read years ago and have become two of my top picks - Cashelmara and Penmarric. HIGHLY recommend these two. Judith Lennox is another author I think you might like if you haven't read any of hers yet.
Your description of the themes of Middlemarch made me decide to read it. It took a while but it was worth it. Sabine Baring-Gould-- I know that name as the author Onward, Christian Soldiers!
A bit late to the video, but I also discovered Lady Audley's Secret through your channel and recently I taught a class about it as part of the requirements for my Master's, so I just wanted to thank you for introducing me (and, through me, several other Brazilians) to a new Victorian author. 🇧🇷😁
@katehowereads Actually, I'm still writing it, so I might yet change the title, but I'm working with Jane Eyre and Villette. I'm analysing some linguistic patterns in the narrators' language using corpus linguistic tools. When it's finished and becomes available for the public to download, I can send you the link if you'd be interested. 😊
Have you read "A Girl of the Limberlost" by Gene Stratton-Porter or "O, The Brave Music" by Dorothy Evelyn Smith. I discovered both of these books within the past year and love them both! I felt they were very much along the lines of AOGG. So many good books on the list and some new ones for me to look up!
Why was there a beep each time you mentioned Jude the Obscure? I had already read Jane Eyre, but I did re-read it. I don't remember if it was because of you or not, but definitely the Mitford series. =) Fun video Kate. Erion~
It's just a running joke I have. I hated Jude the Obscure so much that I act like it's profanity to even say its title. So glad I introduced you to the Mitford series!
@@katehowereads LOL Okay, I think I remember you not liking, really NOT LIKING Jude. It was so depressing. And it was why you needed to break up with Hardy? I will not even try to read Jude because of that. LOL
Awww this was great!! I didn't respond because i couldn't remember if I've read a book because of you but i know my classics shelf is full of your recommendations!! ❤ i do have a #kate-rec tag on my Goodreads tho. 😂
You are a delight, Kate. I am very interested in reading Betsy Tacy books, but I would have to purchase them and my book funds are limited. I've read reviews stating that the first books in the series, while good, are not the best in the series. Would you recommend beginning with the first book, or (to save money) could I skip some to get to the "best"? If so, with what book would you suggest I begin? (I hope this makes sense.) Thanks and God bless you!
Thank you, Dana! I can definitely see your dilemma. Firstly, I would ask if you're willing to buy used? Abe books is a great resource for affordable books. I do agree that the first few books are underwhelming to come to as an adult so maybe starting with Heaven to Betsy?
@@katehowereads Thanks, Kate! This is very helpful. I am definitely willing to buy used and will look into Heaven to Betsy on Abe books. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
I rarely make any comments. I really liked this video. I have read many of them, but I also am inspired to try a few new things. I loved Three Men in a Boat. I was inspired to read it by reading To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis. Both made me laugh.

Thanks for giving the gentle nudge needed.
Oh my goodness the sound bite for “the book that shall not be named”.😂 I would say that so many of these books I heard of first because of you!
What book was she referring to?

I think I only commented two books, but there are of course so many more. It's such a gift to have someone with similar reading taste. Great video!
Thank you, Ash! 💚

Another one to add to the list is the Paddington audiobooks. I listened to them after you had mentioned them and they are delightful.
The Paddington books are one giant hug. 🥰
