Not sure about the tax credits I’ll have to talk to my CPA and get back to you on that..I drive within the city from business to business. I am happy with my purchase at $21k, yes. I paid the same after financing for my 2016 Ford Fiesta I bought new so selling that after getting 6 years use out of it only to pay the same price for a brand new car again(a 2021 too), only this time with more ROI, it was a no brainer for me. @@FerrisSOCAL Most electric motorcycles (and Auto cars like the SOLO) still qualify for the 30% Federal EV tax credit. I have a Sondors Metacycle in Attic White paint that will be arriving this year. The motorcycle cost me $5,000 and it's eligible for the federal tax rebate. However I will have no State rebate here in Indiana.
The running lights are also a requirement for motorcycles in the US. Which, since it's a motorcycle, it has to have them. (It's also why the center headlight. Arcimoto ran into similar issues - they tried to get away with "far apart" headlights up front, but they were too far apart to be legal on a "motorcycle", so they had to add them in roughly the same location as the Solo.)

Really appreciate the content on this vehicle! It's such a niche area, but some parts of the world - Australia in particular - these unfortunately are very stupidly difficult to own. Govt regulations are too up their posterior because they want to classify this as a car, and thus have a high standard of safety. But then they allow Can-AM trikes on the roads as motorcycles with no issues and no safety bar traction control, etc.
Yup, I'm in Canada and want one of these so bad, but no go just yet. So, I continue to drive my 04 Silverado 2500 HD with 6L, which is absolutely ridiculous. Re: Running lights. In the US. and I imagine Canada, Motorcycles must have headlamps on at all times so, when the key is the lights are on. Just a thought about range anxiety… isn’t weird that there are ICE/Gas stations like every 3 to 4 miles and in counterpart you can’t find reliable EV charging stations as available??? I have seen reviews of other EVs like the Mini, and reviewers always complain that they have been lucky finding a working charging station. Weird. As the EV charging infrastructure progresses…going to Vegas will be fairly enjoyable.

Since the car could charge with a standard 110 volt outlet. Every building hooked to the electrical grid is a potential place to charge at. All I have to do is ask the owner said structure nicely if you could charge there. Offer to throw them some cash as to what it would cost for you to charge up and I'm sure that a lot of people would be accommodating. For road trip you could stop by a bunch of friends houses along the way.
It needs dual tires on the rear, plus a wrap around bumper to protect the cabin, going from behind the dual tires, rising from front to the rear end, and meeting up with the front tires. And, they can make that look cool like a sports car, or goofy or nerdy looking. Have a good designer involved to make it cool looking. Add another 10hp for the extra weight of the safety features. (The role cage is definitely a minimum and thank goodness they have it) Finish it out with airbags and an extra front seat, one rear seat and you've got a real economy car that's far safer than this.
Easy to compare something readily available to something aspiring and in the works/not readily available for purchase. Keep in mind the solo was originally going to be 15,500. Wouldn’t be surprising whatsoever if pricing changes had to be made for Aptera.
@@awwki Yep. Competition in this space is slim. Right now the only real competitor is the FUV by Arcimoto, but that's got motorcycle-style controls and it's not enclosed. Yeah $10,000 is fantasy land. Most motorcycles cost more than that. The batteries alone probably cost Electra Meccanica $6,000. Then they have to build a whole “car” around it and factor in R&D costs and profit. Considering the next cheapest EV is almost $10,000 ( aka 50%) more, the Solo is a great value. Also consider that Electra Meccanica doesn’t have the economies of scale of a big player like GM.

Well apart from the solo has not been fitted with air bags or crash tested and would have to , to gain entry and sales in the UK. Otherwise for a single person like me, thinking about changing from ICE to EV - this would be the ideal set-up I'd go for, as long as I knew in advance where the nearest charging points were and presumably using ZAP which gives charging information here in the UK and Europe it would become ideal as my personal vehicle of choice. And guess as you class it as a Trike I'd have to wear a crash helmet.
About the manufacturing, I think I remember hearing that for the first year or so the EM was going to be manufactured in China, but after that it would be made in Canada when they get their factory set up there.
The manual is a USB pen drive. The piece with the copper leads should flip out, and it will fit neatly into a USB type A port on a computer, easily enough, and should mount like a filesystem. The manual will be a file on that filesystem. Most of the card is probably decorative. The electronics should easily fit in the little piece that folds out.

Our doors slide open rather than open like this one, it's actually insane how similar they are
4 Questions: 1. Is it compatible with the Tesla charging stations? (They're everywhere here) 2. Does it have adaptive cruise control? 3. Does it have lane detection? 4. Android Auto on the stereo? If not, does the stereo look like a standard size so it would be easy to put in an aftermarket one?

Better question, can I charge with my Tesla Wall Adaptor using a J1772 adaptor? I wouldn't expect it to work with the Supercharger network. However, I do have a wall charger that I would want to use with the SOLO.
@@awwki Correction, it's compatible with Tesla plugs if you have the J1772 adaptor. This means someone with a Tesla Wall Connector (home charger) should be able to charge a SOLO, though I'm still trying to find out if that's possible even if the connection fits. Of course the SOLO can't charge at a Supercharger Station.
@@awwki It's good that you answered it but The Tesla Superchargers don't work on any non-Teslas in the U.S., let alone a micro EV. All Teslas use a 'Tesla Connector' but a Supercharger won't charge any non-Tesla at the moment. However, the Tesla Wall Connector (TWC) would work (as you've verified) with a J1772 adapter, which is the realistic solution. Anyone being told 'no' to the original question should know about the TWC capacbility with J1772 adapter, as it's not all or nothing. Not everyone has the TWC or a means to install one, I get that.
That owner's manual looks like it has a flip-out USB connector. See if that part with the metal contacts can fold out, and if so stick it in a computer's USB port and it will probably be recognized as a thumb drive which you can read through like any drive on your PC. One of the fluid reservoirs in the front compartment is for the brake fluid. The other is probably coolant for the electronics, which brings me to the question, is the battery liquid cooled? For the price it probably is not, but that would be very nice if it was especially in hot areas like Arizona.
@@awwki That is actually surprising to hear and really good news for you because it will help the battery survive those Arizona summers. I assume the liquid can warm as well as cool for those rare cold Arizona nights (I live in Florida and we too have about 2 or 3 weeks of actual winter-ish days, down into the 20s and 30s occasionally). Speaking of cold temps, if you need to charge your car when it's colder than normal (like say below 40 degrees), drive your car around a little bit to warm up the battery first because charging a cold battery is hard on it.
I test drove one of these last year just as they were starting shipments, and the ride was *ROUGH*. Super-tight suspension, it felt harsher than a race-tuned Miata. And my test drive was in a mall parking lot, where the bumps were fairly small, I felt like I'd need a back realignment if I had taken it over the road near my house that has serious potholes. Have they improved the ride quality for the full-production vehicles? Acceleration and *de*celeration also felt really bad - almost dangerously slow in a couple cases - again, I hope they've tweaked the system.
I could swear I heard somebody saying he would wear the safety belt every time..Does the end of the video not count as "a time"? I'm just messing with you. Love your video and also love he car. I could use it well for home-office rides. I was just thinking about the motor setup. You said it is connected to the rear wheel via a belt. That's a shame they did it like that, a motor in the wheel would have been more practical, taking up less space that way, leaving even more room for batteries, extending the range. But still it is a nice car.
Could you share the exact measurements of space behind the seat? Your skate board alone doesn't cover the overall width and length for the boot area. Thank you.
Wow, never realized Intermeccanica had such a global footprint… I recognized the name from when they were an Italian company building race cars and Speedster replicas in America, now they’re headquartered in Canada and manufacturing in China! Anyways, my Tesla sounds like that too with the AC on max… don’t notice it much inside since it’s probably more insulated than the Solo but its just as loud on the outside.
0:55 I don't understand; what sort of situation would you be in that's an emergency where you need to release the parking break? Do you mean in emergencies it can be ENGAGED by holding for 35sec?
No because when you turn off the vehicle the emergency brake engages. If you stumble upon an issue where you can’t turn the vehicle on (see video where my solo gets repaired) you need to be able to disengage the parking brake to get it on a tow truck and that is how you would override it
I have been researching the $7500 tax credit for three wheel EVs. But I can find no specific mention of their inclusion in the program. What did Electra Mechanica tell you about tax credits?
@@awwki Double check on the tax credit. There is a 10% (they want to up to 30%, but it hasn't passed yet) federal tax credit for electric motorcycles. I'm just not sure if an auto car class motorcycle is eligible for the same tax credit. Since Auto cycles are classified as motorcycles for insurance and safety rags. Does the Solo qualify for any tax credits? What do you find you use the Solo for in your day-to-day life. And finally, do you feel it was a good value at $21k? Thanks
It’s late and I’m tired sorry for the sloppy reply hope that makes sense :)
@@awwki Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear you are happy with your purchase. I look forward to your next video.
Tax credits: A quick search I did a few months ago made a distinction between cars and motos. Motos did not qualify in my state. YMMV.
Oh, interesting! That makes sense
First, thank you! you are providing some of best and most comprehensive SOLO info on RUclips. Question, what were your destination/delivery fees in your purchase quote? I’ve had a dealer quote two separate fees for delivering the vehicle one called “Destination fee” the second called “delivery fee”. I’ve never seen that before. The two fees totaled 8.4% of the $18500 list price.. sheesh!

and happy you’re enjoying the videos!! Let me know if there’s anything else you have a question about I’m happy to help 😎👍
Very interesting. Had no idea Australia was like that
Yup, I'm in Canada and want one of these so bad, but no go just yet. So, I continue to drive my 04 Silverado 2500 HD with 6L, which is absolutely ridiculous. Personally, I think every single person should be given one of these cars- just think of the reduction in emissions! I tried an ebike but no go for me, I am just too far from town.
It’s more car than a motorcycle though. Especially in an accident, it has body frames. Like a slingshot or a KTM X-bow.
It's perfect commuter vehicle.
Agreed :)
Love the video. Saw one on the street here in San Diego and have been researching it since. Re: Running lights. In the US. and I imagine Canada, Motorcycles must have headlamps on at all times so, when the key is the lights are on.
Car drivers harve problems seeing motorcycles when driving and often pull out or turn in front of a motorcycle. As I recall this became law in the early 1970's.
Thanks for the insight :)

Motorcycles are required to have a running light. When you start one, the main headlight turns on at low-beam.

Yes and as of right now I’m having a huge issue breaking out of the state of Arizona for a really long road trip because of the shortage of charging stations. It’s looking like I’m going to have to camp out and level one charge somewhere random to make a bigger trip
@@PBFoote-mo2zr I run into an issue making the trip from the last station in town in Phoenix and making it to Blythe. There are no stations in Wickenburg
@@LordTimelord Exactly the only issue is that style of charging is the longest form. Would also kind of be asking to camp out for quite some time
Cool to see innovation in this space.
Sad to see the SOLO go
It needs dual tires on the rear, plus a wrap around bumper to protect the cabin, going from behind the dual tires, rising from front to the rear end, and meeting up with the front tires.
Really cool little vehicle. I wish there was a navigation system, or at least a dedicated place to put your phone though.
I just use a suction cup phone mount from “Bracketron” works pretty well :)
Ouch on that price! 18k when a 2 seaterAptera is coming out for 25k with a 200+ mile range, I'll wait for the Aptera.
The SOLO beats it, but the SOLO's steering needs work. Too loose and the ratios are weird. It needs much more responsive steering and it couldn't hurt to have better acceleration and better brakes.
range? street legal? how can the price be so low if the production is limited?
100 miles to the charge, yes, and it just got even more affordable over Christmas

Holy shit dude, the price is crazy. I thought it would be at most $10k but 21k is crazy. I thought this was going to be my next ride but not with that price
I think you’re vastly overestimating the power behind the dollar in the EV market. The price is extremely good in my opinion but there are definitely people who disagree

If I ever live in a city, I'm getting this vehicle
Definitely a good place for it!
4 Questions:
1. Is it compatible with the Tesla charging stations? (They're everywhere here)
2. Does it have adaptive cruise control?
3. Does it have lane detection?
4. Android Auto on the stereo?
If not, does the stereo look like a standard size so it would be easy to put in an aftermarket one?
No it is not compatible with Tesla plugs. No adaptive cruise control, no lane detection, and not sure on android auto as I have an iPhone.
JVC radio in the dash seems standard size and probably easy to replace but I haven’t attempted it myself

100 miles to the charge :)
It is liquid cooled yes, i of course forgot to add that in..had to forget something

I have been researching the $7500 tax credit for three wheel EVs. But I can find no specific mention of their inclusion in the program. What did Electra Mechanica tell you about tax credits?
I don’t believe they qualify for said tax credit
@@awwki Double check on the tax credit. There is a 10% (they want to up to 30%, but it hasn't passed yet) federal tax credit for electric motorcycles. I'm just not sure if an auto car class motorcycle is eligible for the same tax credit. Since Auto cycles are classified as motorcycles for insurance and safety rags. @@LordTimelord I will definitely ask the CPA this year
@@LordTimelord I think the 10% federal motorcycle EV credit ended after 2021 and hasn’t been extended. You will have to rely on state incentives at the moment.
